Well, I read Tom Clancy's books, then one of my favourite book is from Kevin Mitnick - The Art of Deception: Controlling the Human Element of Security. But I read many other, like Isaac Asimov (sci-fi author) or books about Japan ^^

Why the Bible and LOTR!?!?
Bible = a construction to control medieval primitives
LOTR = medialised gold mine for the (TM) ownersI treasure several electronic parts' catalogs. They are objective, meet the requirements and don't pose being philosophic.

Anyway, my favourites (in ranked order) are:
1. "Alice's Adventure in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There" by Lewis Carroll
2. "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum
3. "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens
4. "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte
5. "In Memoriam" by Alfred, Lord Tennyson....and so the list goes on.

You'll have to admit that the bible has a powerful philosofic content, but you have ti be sharp to get them without succumbing to the mind washing stuff in there.
And LOTR is the greatest fantasy story ever told (in my opinion), so being used to make money was just a smart move of Tolkien's son, and even with that he sis the final compilation of the Silmarilion, so he cant be that bad.
