Hey my display and a lot of others use 1280x1024, so all my wallpapers are made to that size and it sucks to have to crop them to 1280x960. Again 1280x1024 is a standard screen rez.

Thanks for your time.

Er, what exactly are you asking for in this post? o_o;;

People wall in all kinds of resolutions. I use 1600x1200 as it offers the best resizing for lower resolutions. Personally I dont consider 1280x1024 to be standard, as it does not conform to the VGA-compliant 4:3 screen ratio. Its more of a 5:4 ratio.

Its a mystery to me why most LCD/TFT monitors use that resolution, makes no sense...

And, MT 'DOES' allow 1280x1024 wallpapers to be uploaded. So go ahead and upload it. >_>;

Wallpaper sizes on MT depend entirely on what the artist uploads. There is no restriction against uploading a 1280x1024 wallpaper and in fact, many artists here DO use that resolution (Sammo is the first person who comes to mind.) Additionally, you can often visit an artist's wallpaper site to see if they have additional resolutions, and many do. Myself, I upload a 1600x1200 version (as that is the size I design in, because it gives me more room to expand on detailing) but upload 1024x768, 1280x1024, and 1600x1200 sizes to my personal wallpaper site.
Raven, I'm not sure why LCDs use a 5x4 ratio but I do remember reading about why laptops had a strange (non 4x3) ratio - it optimized the amount of screens a manufacturer could cut out of the original pane of glass. The same may be true for LCDs in general?

I've tried to upload 1280x1024 wallpaper before and it tells me I can only upload so and so sizes (list of allowed sizes) and 1280x1024 isn't one of them. If it allowed me to upload them I wouldn't have posted this topic. I'll try again and let you know if it lets me...

It's a standard non-widescreen size as strange as that seems...

i upload in that size for everything without any problems, check n make sure it is 1280x1024

are you using IE......
if so try upload it with firefox.

link is to the left side of the screen

Check my gallery. Most of my wallpapers are of that resolution. So I don't know what you're doing wrong. XD

Just uploaded one fine. It was a few days ago and back when I uploaded my first submission that I couldn't upload that size... It must have been a bug in MT or something.

Nope not IE, I'm a proud Mac user on Safari.

1280x1024 is a stupid resolution to use. It's for people who don't know any better it's the wrong aspect ratio. Your computer monitor (in all likelihood) is 4:3. 1280x1024 is 5:2. Everything will look squashed and flat under 1280x1024. You're better off using 1280x960 (4:3) and having everything appear normally.

EDIT: Damn, I just realized I posted to a thread six days old. Damn again.

and if you read the posts in the thread, LCD monitors do use 5:4 aspect ratio.

For example I do have a 5:4 aspect ratio. 17" LCD ...

I would say at least 85% of members are using a base system, and thus, a normal CRT monitor. But it doesn't matter, I shouldn't have posted to an old topic. I was just voicing an opinion as to what I prefer that I _don't_ have to crop. Consider it dead again as far as I am concerned.
