what do you think about arabic people these days ???
what do you think they are doing in everydays life ???
i know it's not my business, but i'd like to know cuze i like them
One of my aquantences from college came from the middle east, and she really
loves the culture, and most of the people. For me, I don't hate them, I don't
really have many feelings towards them. They are there, I am here, just like I
care not about the Russians. I do know that there is a war with my country and
theirs, but that war is for them, to help them, so I really don't have feeling
like they did for people in the Vietnamese war. Pretty much, they are trying to
get by, with a new government they have new freedoms, and they are trying to put
those to good use.
No issues with them. Haven't really had any Arabic friends before (not by
choice, the occasion just never arose). It's the religious fanatics that resort
to terrorism that I hate.
Don't know any Arabs, haven't looked up on them. I won't form an opinion when
all I know about them is on TV. But from what I do know, they aren't bad people.
I've got no issues with Arabs. I have a couple of close friends, one is from
Jordan and the other is from Iraq. My Iraqi friends will have to return someday
to their country although they really don't want to, especially after all the
unrest released by the war. The operating word being released... unrest was
already there under Sadam, especially after the nefarious economic sanctions
that brought the Iraqi people to their knees. It is not my place to judge them,
and I think they are not more different than many other countries.
Lets analyze it... so you say they are a radical religious bunch... in a sense
one might be correct but that is not the whole story. I can at least think of
two examples were religion has been taken to the extreme: a) Several protestant
churches were burned down, some with constituents inside who got more or less
safely outside, in Mexico by ultra-catholics. Yet that never came out in the
news did it?; b) The past election in the US was quite funny in the sense the it
was very clever of the government to ALSO include in the ballots of many
religious-right states a vote for same sex marriage, you can guess what they
voted for!
I fully respect countries where there is a full separation between church and
state, but in the US where there has not been this clear distinction as of
lately.
Want to talk about Bin-Laden? Yeah I agree he's a crazy son a bitch who's got
the money and connections to do harm anywhere. But let me ask you this
question... who the f#$@ trained him? The CIA. Who left his country (even though
he's a Saudi) to die on its own after "freeing" them from Russia? We
did. He's very a very angry person and has taken his anger to a very
unexplicable level. note: I DO NOT condone HIS actions, but I do understand
where they come from.
I think that we are still in Iraq because there is the specter of the first
Afghanistan conflict and Bin-Laden in the minds and hearts of our leaders. The
possibility of creating more of them by leaving Iraq is greater than by staying
and finish the piss poor job we started.
SO to conclude, I think Arabs are very much the same as any other human group in
this planet. We all have our religious extremists, our terrorists and we also
have our heroes and geniouses, it's just a matter of whom we want to give
importance to.
I'm writing in third person so the you is not direct towards anybody in MT or
other, SO DO NOT TAKE IT personally, please.

Oh you mean the Iraqi people not the arabs. Actually its a war (invasion) to
help businessman get wealthier not to help Iraq get its freedom, in case you
didn't know. People are just so naive and believe what they're fed by the
media.
As for arabs I think they're all right. I know a few. Interesting culture and
beliefs.

It's true, christians insist in mendling in government affairs and now world
affairs. We have to be careful with these fundamentalists.
One was a friend who had helped me out alot when I was the new student in his
class when I transfer to his elementary school. He was from Afghanistan and was
quite proud of this heritage.
Another one I didn't like. He had insulted my (supposingly) religion, so I
found it fitting to insulted his, and that made him quite angry as he promptly
started a fist fight with me right there. Apparently he though it was ok to
insult other peoples religion, while its not ok for anyone to insult
his.
Then there was a Kuwait girl in my class who was the hottest HS girl in the
entire school. And that was a school of approximatly 2,500 students. But she
had a boyfriend since freshman year as well as she wore too much make-up. I
found that really sad, since she was naturally very beautiful.
Most Muslims/Arabs I mean are fanatic towards their religion, and would
literally kill anyone who insults their religion. Most are very defense but
some are really nice.
Also most of the Arabs that I met hates Saddam and his regime, thats one of the
reasons that they are here in America and not there in the Iraq.
he, he
Two of my flatmates are from Quatar
and two people living in the next flat
are from the Emirates ^.^
They are nice guys, fun talking to and
appart from that they never study as they
have secured jobs back home (oil and stuff ^^)
i just wish they smoke that "Shisha" thing with
pipes a bit less so I could breath normaly
They smoke it like 8 hours a day
And they are very cool towards religion and stuff
as they were able to fast from alchohol only like
for 3 days of the Ramadan month
I cant stand how people started to shun Arab and muslim people after 9/11. Just
because of where they where from. Even American citizens where thought of
differently after 9/11 because of their heritage. It made me sick.

You have some very good points here, but then...

...you get into Bin Laden. Now I could be wrong, but I thought Hamed meant this
thread as a general Arabic people post. How it turned to the current political
situation and it's roots I can't imagine, but it almost puts in a connotation
that points to profiling.
When asked what you think about Arabic people, that's not assuming them as
terrorists. Arabic people aren't terrorists. There are terrorists within the
Arab people, along with every other country out there.
Two girlfriends I had in the past were from Saudi Arabia and the other from
Iraq. They were average girls who had average families who just want to live
and enjoy their lives, kinda like every other person on the planet. I have no
problem with them at all and I think it's wrong for people to hate them.
I have nothing against any ethnicity. As a matter of fact, my favorite teacher
by far is my old Algebra teacher in 7th grade, and he was Saudi Arabian. Sadly,
I heard he got assaulted in Maryland a few weeks after the 9/11 incident. I miss
the guy, he was like a brainy and thin version of Onizuka.
I'm an arab and personally, I'm sick of the propaganda the US media has fed to
the 50% of the country willing (dumb enough) to believe it
thankfully, people here arent sucking up the whole arabs=terrorists thing
thanks for all the positive comments everyone
there was a sunni muslim girl in my american lit class last year. she always
wore a veil and i had no problem with that. muslims, arabs and the lke arent
terrorists, its those damn raticals who belive they are still fighting against
the crusades from a few centuries ago. America and her allies are just trying
to help out the rest of the world. although i think bush is an idiot for trying
to put "democracy" in a part of the world with dictatorships and
monarchies/ruling families. it just wont happen.
I got no beef with them. However, there is a stereotypical Middle Eastern dude
at our school, and he's really annoying. But I don't think the rest are like
that.
I honestly can't understand why ppl would be ignorant enough to hate a certain
group of ppl without really getting to know them beforehand. Having been made
fun of when i was little b/c of my accent kinda helps me understand just what it
feels like when someone has a prejudiced view to someone. To me, all Arabs are
fine. If they're your friends and you joke around about it, like me and some of
my friends that are chinese, it means nothing cuz it's all in good fun. But if
you just do it cuz they're slightly different from the rest, then how much does
that say about your character?
Nice....... arbian......... I like them too! Quatre from Gundam Wing is arabian
and his so kind and nice!! Just Adorable!
I think we shouldnt believe in weird things that people say...
My opinion, not yours ... so no quotes with bad critiques!!!!!!!
Please!

i've got a lecturer who's from iraq, but he migrated here years ago. he's kurdish and he doesn't like arabs. nor saddam
