Though there was a topic that was close to this (http://forum.minitokyo.net/showthread/9124/)[idunno the html tag sorry] , mine includes a poll and is asking which company you side with, they are not the same :P plz dont close.
what company are you and why :P thought it would be a nice poll,
/nvidia for life
currently
4200
4600
3x 5200
5950u
mx440

I've put 'Don't Care', but have always used ATi.

9500 > 9600xt > 9800xt

i don't think it would bother me if I went over to nVidia to be honest, but at the last moment, I might just stick with ATi ;) .

I chose ATI because they had the Half-Life 2 thing, even though I didnt take advantage of it,
I dont even know what card I've got right now though...

ATI
with my 9100 I can run HL2 as smooth as silk.... :D gotta love d3d...

Just buy whatever's good at the time. Saying that though, they're both good companies - one has this, one has the other.

Half-Life 2 is made for ati

otoh Unreal 3 will need the new Geforce's PixelShader 3 tech in order to run. Heck the recommended requirements for Unreal 3 is a Geforce 6600GT.

Jeebus!!

Nvidia, better linux support

I pick ATI, soley because I've never had an nvidia. but I hear they're pretty good. We'll see, how nvidia is when the PS3 comes out :P

I alweys chose card with better benchmark points and it alweys is ati (in the same price if you compare with nvidia) ATI 4ever

when i was before that choice ive read extensively that same spec. Nvidia might outperform in game fps wise over ATI but ATI would outperform Nvidia in quality.... still image or video playback quality are my main tasks so i chose ATI Radeon 9600 xt..which was and still is a great budget card =] which too kicks ass in gaming btw :P i never had such smooth playing SOF2 ever haha with full effects

fyi, if it wont run at 8x after you boot, make sure that your current mobo bios is of highest version ^^ this isnt addressed in manual, and kept me, as a first time builder (if a build over 6 years ago doesnt count haha) poking around for a bit....now it wont pause your build..hehe

well it all depends on ur price range and what type of power your looking for. Personally im in favor for ATi but that only for high end cards liek the 9800xt or x800

But for an economic budget GeForce you get more for the buck than what you can get from ATi

But the story is way different for the high end grahpics cards, the Geforce 5200 is great but it needs a 480 watt power supply, you ahve to spend more money and buy anohter power supply if you dont have one, thats extra money, while on the other hand the ATi x800 is faster by 40 more frames per second than than the 5200, and only requires a 350 watt power supply whihc comes standard with most cases you buy. It jsut depends on how much your willing to spend and what performance your looking for.

Note: But i think Geforce might rule the high end cards soon once the SLi is perfected. Cheers :)

basic rule: if you have no clue what you're doing get the midrange values like the 9800xt good price and great performance. easy ^.^

i have an Nvidia GeForce 6800 ultra and an amazing VGA card

nVidia, I kinda like to have full openGL support on GNU/Linux.

agreed, plus nvidia will have more money than ati soon, since they're providing the gpu for the playstation 3... and i recently switched to nvidia, and it's more reliable and more high quality than anything ati i've ever used

i use nvidia but i think ati is better good.

Changes on a regular basis, what I want depends on the current line of video card put out by each side rather then the company. Right now I am a ATI supporter

what an nvidia! All your vga are belong to us?

Quote by itsDchlorineGeforce 5200 is
great but it needs a 480 watt power supply

480 watt powersupply where did that come from the 5200 is the lowest class of gforce fx, heck i dont think mine even has a fan on it, let alone need a 480 watt powersupply thats extreme.

Well actually i never had an Ati since i got my first PC. Nvidia is my favourite forever. I started with one, i'll die with one! XP

NVIDIA!!!!111

i think maybe ATI is slightly better than Nvidia..
but i have always had Nvidia (5700le 256mb now)
so nvidia 4 teh win. ;D

yay its all tied up :P

ive been getting ATI's for a while now, mainly cause whenever i see special offers its them so i buy them.

but even my first nvidia was better peformance wise

I've used both, and have really liked both in the past. As for performance, it really depends on what game you're playing, as oftentimes different ones will be optimized for either one or the other.

I voted for ATI however, as the card currently in my box is a 9800 Pro with a VGA Silencer, and I love it.

I think Nvidia is the better video card.
