I would like to propose some kind of limitation on the length of a user's
signature. While most of the people here are responsible sig makers, and have a
little picture, a quote, and maybe a short list of groups that they belong to,
not everybody falls into this category
What can be bothersome are sigs with twenty line poems, double spaced, and the
like. When a person's sig takes up my whole screen, i think it's reached the
'ridiculous point'. If you have a long poem you feel like sharing, create a
poetry thread.
Well it's just my opinion, but i think browsing would be smoother sigs had a
wordcount limit

i don't wanna know someone's life story that they've written within their sig,
infact if it's that long most people will skip it anyway. I doubt someone will
say "Wow! That's insanly long! I'm
going to spend an insane amount of time to read this insanely long sig and get
completly off topic because of it's pointless insanity!" And let's face it,
the only thing you really need in a sig is a banner that portrays who you are,
links to what ever it is you are afiliated to and maybe a quote if your that
desperate.

I'm for the official limit , if there isn't any people will continue making long
sigs. I ones did see one that took up the inteire screen, but even a ten lines
long one is ennoying especially if that person writes your guestbook three
times.

And no, chopstickz, your sig is not too long. I'm not proposing a 5 world
limit, i'm just suggesting a cap on those sigs that take up at least half the
screen. Or just capping the ones that take up the whole screen would be a good
start.

Umm, the appearance of the site depends on the computer's screen resolution,
right? I'm viewing mine sig and the site at 1152 by 864 pixels... so should the
screen resolution be a factor, too, right? (hehe, finding a sneaky way to
justify and perpetuate the existence of my sig, hehe... )

I really agree with this. I always look at the art, and if it's short, I'll read
the words. It's really more meaningful if it's short anyway, otherwise it can
just be rediculous.
Very good point... and I agree... Sigs with often too long quotes, words and
lyrics can sometimes make it confusing to read posts or other stuff because it
can actually be a distraction... It makes it hard on the eyes and it sometimes
occupies too much space given a post...

I agree too, there's no need to promote every single group you're part of,
especially not with each on it's own line. Celessa *points above* does it
perfectly by having them side by side and I don't think it's any harder to see.

I really do honestly get confused sometimes with long worded signatures, and the
actual text of the thread/comments. The thing is, the whole layout of minitokyo
looks really good, so even if you extended the line between sigs and comments it
would look more bizarre than normal.
And I'm not saying people can't have worded sigs, I'm just saying I find them
hard to read sometimes

to) and that is what I'm currently using and personally I think its not too
long, though it may be large by normal standards only if it becomes a problem or
if someone asks will I remove it. Though I can understand why some people have
it so long.

Something like that. Though to be honest if I wanted to know what club you were
in I'd go to your userpage and see for myself, but I believe that people have a
freedom to do things like that. Though one siggy I find interesting is that
some guy felt the need to list in two different languages the clubs he was in.

Though I can also understand putting in links to help out newbies, but most of
the time their gonna ignore the links. Still its helpful but try to limit it to
something that people absolutely need to know. Though this community isn't that
bad, wow I remember a guy that had roughly half a page long of a siggy.
I like to consider the following for signatures (Keep in mind this is an
opinion) :
1. Will it benefit the reader.
2. Does it serve a meaning/purpose.
Try also to limit what you put. If you want to put more, change it after awhile
and put the information or whatever in there and take out the old. I don't
think this is something that is a problem that really is serious, but is it
growing somewhat and some members really need to remove alot of it because its
just not necessary. Though if you look at it overall a signature in itself
isn't necessary.

Well ppl do have notes in which group they belong and poems and stories but
there is a limit to 500 characters in a sig. I dont pay much attention to the
singatures i'm used to scrolling way ndown to the next post so i dont mind the
long sigs...
