I'm asking this question because there are many members here that do not like
rap. Growing up in the north in New York, I am surrounded by rap. That doesn't
mean that I listen to the music. Of course, a lot of the rap music today
transmits the same messages over and over. It's redundant, and we'll probably
expect the same from future artists.
A good thing to know is that there are more singers opening up in the world, and
the singers tend to generate more feeling into their songs. To tell you the
truth, I don't really listen that much to music with words. I listen to
instrumentals, and personally, I really don't care if anyone doesn't like the
instrumentals I make on my computer.
Again, I notice the same messages being transmitted instead of coming up with
newer messages. Are there other reasons why rap music isn't as good as it could be? Please, don't just say "because
it's bad" because that tends to get members nowhere without defending their
side of the argument.

I can't even understand what some of them are even
saying. It's like a foreign language to me, no offense.

So do I. Most of my songs
are dance-oriented mixes and of course J-Pop as well, but I've been like that
since I was born, really. Never was much interested in the North American Music
Industry. Plus, Japanese lyrics tend to have more meaning and much more
flexibility. Japanese people put more effort into it in general, and some don't
really - but at least they tried. Unlike North America, shame shame shame shame
shame.

up with newer messages. Are there other reasons why rap music isn't as
good as it could
be?
Rap to me, and a few of my other friends - we all
basically admit that rap shouldn't really be declared as music. Where's the
singing talent, obviously? If I could just play some music, start yapping quick
words out of my mouth - that's pretty much all that goes around here. Now I'm
not saying Rap isn't all about music. They got the rhythm and everything - but
if you want real music out there, go for R&B - Soul thing.
Me - I'll always stick with J-Pop and K-Pop. That's just me, really. lol
Sorry but sometimes I tend to be a bit racist... not that I hate black people is
just and awakrd feeling. >No offense...
I don't know... people get tired of the same message over and over again and
again... In it will always be the same.
Most people hate it because, people don't like people! In someway they are
arrogant and clumsy in a kind of way and its culture is a bit back pushing...
I'm not trying to say that everyones hates.... it I don't but still i don't like
it.
Anyways all people have different ways to think, and like different things...
isn't that what makes us very interesting?
I don't really care for rap. I like some, (some stuff by Eminen, Dr. Dre and a
couple of other songs I've heard that I liked, but that's about it) but it's
just very repetitive and the music is also boring. I like livley lyrics and
awesome guitar solos, excellent drum beats and a well structured band, not some
no talent (becuase that's what many rappers are. For example goldie-lookin'
chain and The Streets) with an electric noise maker that lays down a bass beat
of *thud* *thud* *thud* *thud* (continue for four minutes) while getting paid
to talk over it about a degenerate (and often fictional) past living in the
gettho.
I hope I have at least justified my dislike of rap in a small way, rather than
saying: "rffl01rz!1 r4p is cr@p!1 cos like it sux0r5!!1!1elevn!"

Well^^ I hate the shit its the worst stuff I've EVER listen to in my
life, I mean come on peopel can sing about better stuff than about drug, hoes
ect ect and
im not being raist although I can be at times but I just really hate that type
of music, but
just to make it fair I hate coutry and oldies too^^' lol oh and by far one of
the owrst rap
artists is Eminem I hate that wiger lol ^^' can I even say that lol too late
now^^'
Yeah I hate rap. It shouldn't be considered music. To me, in order for you to
be a musician, you have to actually play an instrument. There seems to be no
real standard for talent in rap. If a guy can yell about drugs, cops, and
bitches, then give him a freaking record contract!

rofl, now people not need to bash rap here, it is a form of the entertainment
that kids specially the suburban white middle class teenagers are really into
since 70% sale of rap music are by the white folks of this country. Persoanlly
I don't really care nor do I plan to listen to it. But that is just a matter of
taste, it isn't fair to judge other people's taste base on our own predjuice of
what the music is. So please be tactful of your words,
(DarkMaiden)*wink**wink* always the sweet talker huh lol
don't be mad, I will like to hear your singing one of these days.
As to mel's question, I think we can improve it first by cutting those degrading
lyrics that they used, it is just unacceptable for a grown man to utter those
words as a prideful statement. Second, there is no love anymore in the songs.
Back in 70s, that was music my man, you can hear the love for a woman, now days
this gangster rapper just talk about doing it. That to me is really sad, I
guess my taste isn't catching up with the new generation.
Hopefully, there is a reformation within the rap community to address this
issue.
Rap is all about having charisma, I like (some) rap.
With charisma I mean, look at Snoop Dogg for example His
presence rocks so much, and I like his style of music, his oldskool style was
better than now though.
I do differentiate wannabe and real/true hip-hop and rap though.. too many rap
about specific things which they pretend to know everything about but in the end
are just making it up, or even worse, just rapping what their producers want
them to rap..
It's all about what taste of music u got lol, there's nothing to discuss
about.
Some rappers, like Tupac for example, he just rapped about his own life, he was
probably the most "real" rapper. Unfortunately though, like he
predicted in his songs, he really died (got shot).
well, i don't really like rap, hip-hop and r&b... i'm mostly into rock,
alternative and J-Pop, K-Pop... a rap song once in a while, but it's true they
get really repetitive... and not only the lyrics, with all the sexual messages
they include nowadays, but the beat of the music as well... i mean, did they
ever hear about the existance of notes, i'm not big on "boum, boums" i
must say... actually, after a while, i think it's pretty annoying, and for my
luck, my oh so "nice" roommate (sarcasm) only listens to that type of
music, and she likes to pump up the volume , so no choice but to listen to the annoying sounds and meaningless lyrics...
ah, and the question of the lyrics of course... Mordin makes a really good
point... right now, i get the impression they only want to sell sex, which is
really not a good thing, French rappers do exactly the same actually... and it
also gets on my nerves... as you said, the lack of feelings.. it seems for
rappers, feelings can only happen while in bed... it's really pathetic... and
on top of it, they add the visuals in their videoclips... almost too kind...
then again, some pop artists like a certain Britney don't do any better on that
side...

yes, the same messages are repeated over and over again... so much that we don't
even "feel" the lyrics anymore... but if it were only that... to me,
if the message is always about sex, love and so on, it gets to a point where it
actually has no meaning... can't society/artists think about anything else to
talk/sing about? people have happinesses, pains and sadnesses that go beyond
being in love or breaking-up and so on...
i don't know... it's just the impression i get from those songs...
haha you guys are soo harsh on rap...my dad would kill me if i started listening
to rap at home though but its not all that bad...i tend to stay more on the side
of R&B though since the melodies are nicer but i like to mix rap beats with
some j-pop songs too...not very bad results...as for the lyrics...i can't really
agree with em so most of the time i turn down the singer and turn up the
beats...the rhytm is quite nice for some songs
As neo put it "rap is krap" I really dont like rap, its like they took
all the tune, tone, and most of what music really is out of their
"songs." oh and if you didnt get the reference in the beginning, it
was from a matrix flash on newgrounds.com about agent smith rapping it was
hilarious.
well....rap.....actually I dun care about the style or things.......90% of the
song I dun understand......XD.....I actually only listen to the beat and
musik.....so it's not a real problem for me....I listen almost to
everything......including rap......but just not alot.....it's kinda rare
now.....lately the songs and things aren't that nice >.>.....so I'm
listinging now to instumental music and japanese music.....
Most of the ppl who hate rap hate it because they never listened to the
old-school stuff(Run DMC, Sugarhill Gang, De La Soul, LL Cool J and others).
I'll agree that some of today's rap gets redundant, but most of the J-Pop I've
listened to was always talking about love (99% of anime songs...even when the
anime doesn't have any love in it ) so saying that rap is bad because it's redundant is kinda
lame. And besides, different people have different tastes, so it's kinda normal
that something that you don't like gets popular.
I don't like rap much, although I like some japanese groups that are a bit like
rap but I'm not sure. They're definitely very different from normal western rap
but they are "rapping" the lyrics.
What exactly is defined as rap? Is it only when some guy with a huge collection
of golden apparel jumps around going uh huh yeah with sparingly clad women
dancing behind? (it's a big generalisation but accurate nonetheless)

If you're looking at current rap, you're not too far off. But if you're talking
about 80s-90s rap, then you're wrong. Rap is someone rapping (rhyming) with a
beat in the back. The beat can be just about anything.
well, I'd defend rap, but it would be a moot point. I could sit here all day
about the diversity and various styles of rap/hip-hop (besides what you all may
hear on MTV or your local radio or whatever) but no one cares so I won't

I can't understand what they say...and when I can, it's offensive in one form or another
there's too much bass...
it doesn't transmit any sort of messege I can relate to
Those are my reasons, based on what I have heard. Maybe there is some half-way decent stuff, but I've never heard it anywhere
It's tuneless and most of what's sung about doesn't interest me.
