I can't remember if it's silent hill one or two, but which is scarier to you? I think Resident Evil 4 is scarier cause in silent hill all you have is a pipe to defend yourself, but then I haven't played SH. Just give me your opinion ok? Thank you!

i think it would be silent hill 4.....as the atmophere goes
resident evil is just a zombie shooting game...( i like to blast those zombie...the more the better )....^_^

Resident Evil raised the bar on fear and it did successfully, before it was all silent hill but now with the increase enemy speed it's all RE4

In Resident Evil 4 , the people act like zombies but they aren't zombies. They were victims of a parasite.

yeah and it takes a lot more bullets to take those punks down

Having nvr played either
Ive seen enough trailers
silent hill looks alot scarier than RE4
the atmosphere just fits the game
all the other RE's have been too predictable

It depends on what kind of scary you are looking for i guess.
Personally I think the Silent Hill series is scarier, but most of it is pyschological terror. In SH there is almost always something preventing you from seeing clearly, ( such as all the lights in a building are out, or fog....lots and lots of fog lol) which makes you wonder if you want to continue forward, especially with all of the ambient sounds and bgms. SH also has some seriously twisted character and monster designs... i've often wondered who comes up with those; cause i never want to meet that person. XO One last thing on SH, the story. The story-line of the SH games have always got to me. They are truly astounding, you'll play through game waiting for the awesome plot twists. (believe me, there are some that'll mess with ya if you let yourself get into character ^^ SH2 is a great example)

i like both SH and RE, just SH is my cup of tea ^^

The older Silent Hill games were much better. If you compared this one to the older Resident Evil games like Resident Evil 2, my opinion would lie elsewhere, because Resident Evil 2 is one of my most preferred classic horror games back in the days - aside from the recent video game from Siren of course [which added a new style of gameplay] - as long as the music was cranked up and the room was very dark, nonetheless. Resident Evil 4 is a little lagging in the fright factor unlike the other three previous versions - nothing really to creep me out though. The original Silent Hill is my choice over here.

If we`re being truly honest, neither scares me. I dream worse stuff than those games. But Silent Hill comes close.

Neither one. The Suffering is uber-scary, yet I can't get enough of it. XD

I think hellmouth nailed it; each series conveys 'fright' in rather different ways. Resident Evil seems to rely mostly on shock and things jumping out at you - be it through a window, out of a closet, or whatever - to elicit a feeling of fear from the player. Silent Hill, on the other hand, is a lot more psychological in that it tends to let the gamer's imagination fill in the blanks (as hellmouth already observed).

Personally, while I've long since passed the stage where survival horror games feel very 'scary', I think Silent Hill's approach is the more effective one; generally speaking, there's little more frightening than the worst one's imagination can conjure up.

That said, though, I enjoy playing Resident Evil's more, and have gotten more out of the series' overarching storyline (with the exception of 4's, whose premise is one of the biggest cop-outs I've seen in years).

I have to say that there both not scary if you know what to expect from the genre.

Thanks for helping me out! I think the scariest thing in Resident Evil 4 are the Regenerators......*shudders*

They really were terrible - particularly those wretched 'iron maiden' variants, as my friends and I sort of took to calling them. *shakes head* Ammunition was never really too scarce in 4 - something that's been conspicuously lacking in the series for a while now, I think - but they could still be tough customers at times. And the creepy quasi-medical facility in which they all first appear added to the atmosphere nicely, I thought.

I've only played a bit of RE4 but I think its way scarier than silent hill....I dont remember which one of the silent hill games i've played, but all I remember of that game were these armless things that did nothing but flop around.

Both: Scary, no. Creepy, yes. = )

I think that Resident Evil 4 because of the monsters that are created in the game and the moster called Regenerators and Iron Maidens scare the s*** out of me. They kill me to many times already.

i'd say silent hill is scarier

Silent is freaker than resident evil 4 but resident evil has way better game play

Silent Hill 4: The Room... is very creepy indeed. *shivers* I hate those floating dead things that eventually come back to life after you take 'em down. Silent Hill messes with your mind... making you fear what you cannot see. >_<

Yeah....and gory...

Okay, In my opinion Silent hill series is much better then Resident evil. For one In silent hill it takes you to a town that is shrouded in fog. In resident Evil you are fighting zombies which aren't realistic ones. Also in silent hill, is more subtle and relies on it's background noises to put you on edge. In resident evil, It's clautrmopic and pop out of the walls. But I've only played Silent hill. So that's my opinion. Comment my page if you disagree with what I said or want to know more!

Exactly.

I love the resident evil series but in terms of scariness, the silent hill series is scarier. resident evil games have a few pop out parts that suddenly scare you but thats pretty much it. but in silent hill its dark and freaky. like in silent hill 1 there are this weird little kid type looking creatures in a school that are just freaky and you have to walk through the town when its pitch black and all you have is a flash like that isnt that bright so it still pretty dark. there are also weird sounds in silent hill which are freaky. so silent hill wins in being scary.

Oh man, Silent Hill 3 scared the hell out of me (this one shocker moment is the best I've ever experienced in a game). SH2 was only mildly disturbing but what a nice creepy atmosphere! Resident Evil games were only scary when I was 12 or so...
As for the latest entries in both series: RE4 is a much better game but not scary at all, SH4 is scariER but still super tame compared to its predecessors. Couldn't scare me at all, it wasn't dark enough and the main character wasn't weak enough. X)
