Personally, I enjoy the vastly imaginative universes that the better animes
portray. Animes like Eva, Cowboy Bebop, (a much lesser known/talked about)
Orguss 2 (the OVA for Orguss), and .Hack. Anything with deep characters and
constant twists in the plot. Of course, there are always the just completely
wacked out silly ones (like Elf Princess Rane). Oddly enough, I either want an
anime that is incredibly serious or one that is completely off the wall. I
don't like too many things that are in between (such as Inu Yasha, sometimes it
is funny, sometimes it is serious). So, for me, either hard-core serious and
intense or completely off the wall zany and luny. How about for everyone else?
For me, the most important thing that I look in an anime is the plot of the
story. If it is good, then I watch it. It doesn't really matter that the artwork
is good, fair, or bad. For example, Samurai Champloo. I didn't really like this
anime since the story was really confusing. o.O
Plot with very good to deep character development. Animation quality is
something I look for as well, but not its not a huge factor. An anime may have
ugly or unappealing art animation, (such as early episodes of Negima) but as
long as the story keeps my interest alive, then it wouldn't matter too much to
me even though there are times I wish the art would be superb.
Plots with shocking twists keep me very interested as it gets me to guess what
is going on. It brings the excitment factor high for me thus, make me anxious
for upcoming scenes.
i look for funny parts, the storyline and the relationship of the main
characters..
also the soundtracks.., since i'll sometimes use the soundtracks for other
things like montage and videos.
the artwork is not very important, since sometimes i watch crappy looking anime
but funny.. like ikiteru futari.
First is the genre, then I look at the world and the characters involved and the
main premise. The show has to capture me and have good enough story developments
to keep me interested...a recent example is .Hack/sign
I find the mmrpg aspect and being trapped within really interesting, but the
story moves along so slowly with so few developments that I feel complelled to
watch only because Iw ant to see it through. Tsukasa isn't very likable, but
Mimiru is a hoot 8P
personally,my basis for an anime is the graphics, character design, and the
genre.i especially like the fantasy genre because it always has an intriguing
storyline.the story comes second, third is the execution.also, impressive fight
scenes are always a plus.
The first priority for me is Storyline. I was watching Fullmetal Alchemist's
first few eps and I thought it was boring because every episode up to like 15
was about different things. My friend convinced me to continue watching and I'm
glad I did ^^ All the things from the beginning come back together at the end.
I almost like all anime i really cant think of any worst anime well may b i
don't prefer to much daily-boy-girl-love-story which is a bit boring... like
boys be or "expected" story...like harukanaru toki no naka de... No
offence ok even i dun like the story i will like either the art work or d
music...
Right now I look for an original story, something that I coul've never imagined,
and I am kinda tired of the tipical main characters that solve everything,
always defeat the 'boss' (like seiya; why did he had to defeat all the gods and
be the one whom recieved all the remaning power of everyone always?... ) ; of
course the characters, with different personalities and not always seen as
secondary characters, and I like the crazy twist in the plot, like in Batek
Kaitos (If anyone here has played it, a gamecube game), just when the story is
getting tedious it becomes an obsession, to know what comes next. Personally I
have a lot of expectations about Tsubasa Chronicles, i like the idea of Clamp
about mixing the characters in the same story, is new for me.
First, I look for the story. I think the message is as important as the
development of the characters. Love characters that grow along the story - not
just get older, but learn with the past, fight for their goals and get stronger
and better. I also look for the artwork, effects and soundtrack.
An anime has to keep my attention. One thing that will immediately give neg.
view towards it is bad animation. I hate that. The characters have to be
liekable. The story refreshing and not drag on and on withouth purpose. Comedy
is a plus here and there. Awsome action sequences. Alot of things really.

The plot of the story, the artwork, the quality? And yeah how well the characters act in the story... ^^
I agree and couldn't have said it better myself. ^^
I like good stories. I also like comedies.

Genre, Story, Art
For comedy... ability to keep interest...
Character development. I really don't like anime where charaters remain static and relationships don't develop...I find that incredibly boring.

I like the story, the artwork, and the character development. The anime that had all of those will surely remain in my heart forever ^^
i look out for the story and then characters design, love to watch anime with a good storyline
lol, it should be very romantic and it should definitely have a good ending!
i look for if it has a good plot or if it has romance in it suspense n mystery

It's gotta be funny. If I can't laugh during a show, I won't watch it. (Same goes with non-anime material)
Also, good character developement is a must, especially in the antagonists/villains. I'm a huge fan of badguys.
