I'm very picky about the games that I choose. I'm technically hardcore because I
buy games that many people consider weird or too dang hard.
PS. I'm also thinking about getting out of being a gamer and just go and buy or
build my own arcade machine. Because most of the really serious and fun gaming
is in still in the arcades. Look at Japan, arcade machines are FAR from dead
over there. They just keep getting more and more popular.
Unless I already know the series, music is a huge factor for me. There's nothing
quite as exceptional as a great game that's backed by an incredible soundtrack.
You owners of games such as Chrono Trigger and Axelay know exactly what I'm
talking about. Excellent music enhances the experience 150%
well, i keep an eye out for good story-but there's an aesthetics threshold that
some games may leap over that may push me away (but hardly any game nowadays has
graphics that bad).
So it's really a matter of story, gameplay and impact; ie. half life 2,
straightforward gameplay, i loved the story and the way it's told/played out
impacts me, i'm left feeling like i'm actually running away from the combine as
opposed to just following checkpoints to get to the next level. Though it was
short...
as goes with the cartoons i love, crappy graphics can sometimes make the game
immensely funny and kick-ass! the storyy definitely has to be and come across
in an amusing manner... and the gameplay must be varied enough to keep me
playing.. i can get bored easily with games..
That varies really. It all depends on the genre. In general though, there are
three things I look out for. Story, Gameplay, and Atmosphere. Graphics or no,
the Atmosphere contributes alot to a game for me. Whether it is dark and gritty,
making you feel the need to look into every shadow to ensure nothing is going to
jump out at you, to the feeling of being on a battlefield and feeling as if you
are just a single soldier in a large war. To the incredibly silly and playful
feel of some other games. So I guess I really mean if it feels like you are your
character.
Graphics are always a plus but really, they are just an extra. Unless they are
completely horrible, they don't turn me away from games. I still like Homeworld
and that game's graphics are definately not the greatest. IT all comes down to
whether or not all aspects of the game compliment eachother for the most part to
make a good game. There can be a few hiccups here and there (there is bound to
be) but in the end if it makes a good game, and it looks like something I like,
I'll look into it.
I'm very tired, if what I said made no sense, I apologize.
Why do I decide to buy a game? Sometimes its because I've heard of it
somewhere... Other times, I go down to the store and I see the game and it looks
rather interesting, so I simply decide to buy it. Of course, knowing the game
company who made the game kinda helps as well. Seriously, you don't know how the
graphics, gameplay, etc are until you actually play the game so they don't
really dictate whether I buy them or not...
Depends on the game really... personally I can't play First Person Shooters if
the graphics are horrible... (which is why I can't stand playing Doom and
Wolfenstein). When it comes to RPGs, the graphics should only be used to flesh
out the stories. If the game is all graphics, it gets kinda boring looking at
it... seriously... I rather watch an enticing story over glossy visuals any day.
I buy games for the story (if it's and rpg) and/or gameplay (if it's an action
game of some type). Sometimes I'll just buy a game because it's from a certain
series that I love, like Suikoden or Megaman. Graphics have never really been
much of a factor in my decision process.
I buy games for their replay value. Obviously I have to enjoy the game to begin
with. If it's something I can play over and over again, or something that has
tons of stuff for me to unlick, then it's worth it to me. If it's something
that I can play and be done with after a few hours or days, then forget it.
replay value, gameplay, story, and i hate games that you play for an 5hours and
then its thru.of course graphics are + but its not the thing that makes games
kick ass, great example dynasty warriors, looks like ps1 game, but hell the game is
fantastic:-)
I usually buy games for a mix or reasons, the major reasons being story and
character, then the game playability and finally the graphics and visuals. The
game has to really involve me but it also has to be easy to play so that I can
get completely imersed in the story and care for the characters.
for me the story comes first, then gameplay then the rest seeing as that you can
live with bad grafics and sound but its just no fun without the others :p
i buy a game if it looks cool or its a squel to the game i already have. like
the new zelda game that going to come out. i never played any zelda game except
for one.
we buy a game is to have fun, of course but here the qustion is
why do u buy a game? for it's story or for it's graphic?
i bought a game for it's story, i don't really care if the graphic is err bad

I buy a game due to it's popularity (to me), Fun factor, replay value, story and grahics.

i buy a game for its story & the gameplay(fun) but mostly its for the story (example Xenosaga ^^) & graphic comes last ~~
i like to buy a game that has good gameplay and a story to complement it. graphics are second. i also like a game that takes a long period to finish.

I buy blizzard games to play bnet . In Bulgaria you can buy any game for 1$ but in bnet you need a original cd-key

i agree to almost every one says the "replay value", story, and of course gameplay.
the gameplay must be exciting and not boring.

for entertainment of course after a hard day studying or working...
For both reasons.... ^-^
usually it would depend on what series it is graphics aren't a strong selling point for me though
I buy a geme for the story, gameplay, and sometimes for graphics, but there are games I buy from friends suggestion.
