For those of you who are poor like me, and also enjoy free software, also like
me. The GIMP version 2.0 has just been released and can be downloaded here http://www.gimp.org (sorry no direct link, they
have diffent sites for each platform) I have yet to try it, but when I get the
time I will do some playing around. It is available for Unix, Windows, and
MacOSX.

Yeah the pretty much sums it up, it does a lot of things kidn of like
Photoshop. And I didn't get it installed yet. I started too then I ran out of
space on my Linux partition so I need to go through and delete some useless
crap.
Well I found out where all my free space went so I can finally test this bloody
software, I now know the reason why they tell you to put /var on a different
partition . I have about 700mb of stupid log files.
Well I finally cleared some space and got it installed, and it seems to work
great it is much simpler to use now, with its new GUI. So maybe if I develop
some incredible skill in the next few days I may be able to actaully post a wall
woo hoo.
The linux and MacOS versions can be downloaded from ftp.gimp.org, or just go to gimp.org and then
click on the download section to download a tarball, but of course using this
method you have to compile it yourself. For the windows version visit this site
here http://www2.arnes.si/~sopjsimo/gimp/
No it's not exactly like PS, that would be illegal:). But it does things the
same as PS, You still have all your tools brushes layers and stuff like PS.
The feel and the way it does things is different from PS. Just for an example,
to edit anything on your image you have to right click on it. its kind of fun
to and interesting to use, plus its free so where can ya go wrong
Does anybody know which is better GIMP 2.0 or Photoshop Elements?
I'm using the GIMP2.0 right now(I like it) and I'm trying to decide if its worth
spending money on Photoshop Elements or not.
I heard its a chopped up version of Photoshop but how much is taken out?
ive hard of outstanding comments regarding GIMP...since i have photoshop, i
never needed to download it. some even go far enough to say its just as good as
photoshop, so ive been recommending it to any who wants to purse imagery but
dont have the resource to purchase 600+ dollar programs
