I am building a new computer and wondering if you guys could help me out

AMD 64 is the way of the future and from what I recall even in 32bit mod it still out preforms the pentium4 extreme. I'm just waiting for a 64bit OS and then I will upgrade.

they already have 64 bit OS, dude,

Personally I like the AMD better especially because of the 64bit processing but I hear p4 will be releasing something to compete. Keep Sharp Onform me as you hear anything worth telling me about.

Thanks in advanced

P4 is really good on videos n stuff, i am going with P4

Hm...it really depends on what you'll doing with it. For an all around choice, I'd say go for a P4. For gaming, hands down A64. Both for going to get dual core versions out soon (AMD already has tho).

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ 2.20GHz
The cpu which I bought last year june .
In fact that AMD cpu just solve heat dissipating capacity ,It`s much better than P4 cpu...
though It`s price cheaper than P4.

64 bit OSes are old hat...Linux has been doing it for years.

Gotta go with AMD, hands down

P4 is great for regular use but for AMD is best for media and gaming so i'll go with AMD.

amd64 is my current choice.

The reasons used to be 64-bit capability and comparatively low operating temperature. Now that Intel has incorporated 64-bit capabilities into their CPU lines, only the latter remains the (still significant) reason for my favouring AMD. Performance-wise, either brands will serve my needs perfectly well.

Regards.

AMD, it has almost same performance as P4 but for a cheaper price.

amd!!!!!!!!!!!

AMD any day.

ever since I started to build my own computers it's been AMD all the way. I don't think that Intel will bring anything to the table that will take me away from my AMD

P4, since all my other computers are pentium.

Well actually both are tied both in performance and 64 bit extensions, but I still prefer amd64 because it has a lower power consumption compared a P4.

Depends on what you want to do. If you're going to do a lot of video encoding and image editing, a Pentium4 should be better for you. If you're going to be gaming, get an AMD Athlon.

Intel do have a 64bit processor, and it's quite overclockable.

The Athlon64's don't consume as much power or have as much heat output though. And they're much more mainstream, and thus, quite a bit cheaper since (according to the last time I checked) Intel don't have that many 64bit CPU's out.

amd64 will cost you less for the same performance as a P4, but they're no good if you want an el cheapo chip - better value, but they're both good & expensive at the lowest available models.

Their dual-core implementation is better too, if you're thinking of going that way. Intel don't have good inter-core communication, because their dual-core is really an ugly hack, whereas AMD designed it into the 64-bit chips from the start, just didn't have two cores. This is quite a speed boost, despite having lower clock speeds.

Here's another thing that might give you pause though: The latest P4s, the good ones, have inbuilt DRM :(, while the AMD64s don't :).

AMD is cheaper and worth 4 UR money.

AMD. cheaper and better games performance.

Clock per clock, the Athlon processors are absolutely whooping on the P4 lines. ...They require less electrical power for each clock, generate less heat for each clock, and outright do more for each clock. I recently built my own system. I realize there will be some pretty cool processors coming out in the next couple of years, and I didn't want to spend much. ..So I went with an Athlon XP 2900+ with the 512 Barton core. This allows for a 400 FSB, which is very nice... ...and I was able to get the mb/cpu/512mb 2.5 RAM from Tiger direct for ~ $275 (It would have been less but one of my rebates was denied.) ...I added a little more RAM to 1GB, for just a bit more. ...I've been kicking butt on America's Army now. ...And that's a first for me.

Edit: And note... ...The Athlon XP is only 32-bit. ...But I'd rather have that line than the junk that Intel has been marketing of recent...

amd...
cheaper prices.. =p

amd64 ftw, AMD is better imo but all systems have ups and downs and I think that
amd makes the best processors.

maybe i'm a AMD fanboi? :P

Amd is cheaper then Intel, but my favourite is p4
