So apprentally Steve Jobs is gonna launch the video ipod thingy this
fall
However I fail to see the importance of it, to me, it seems like this is
just some strategy Apple comes up with to continue to monopolize the personal
entertainment market
I saw the model of it, It is like a gameboy advance.
Tell me what you think
This post is going to talk about Apple in general, I hope nobody minds
that.
So,.. about a year ago, I really liked Apple, and I thought of Steve Jobs as a
decent guy (better than Ballmer and Gates). The computers were good and make a
very nice OS. Oh yeah, and the whole "omgiwantanipod!" thing.
Since then, my view on them has changed alot.
They annonced that they were switching to Intel x86. Oh no, please tell me that
I have voices in my head. If I bought a Mac, the main reason would be because of
the PPC cpu/arch. x86 is shit, and I only use it because its the only arch I can
build myself, and because I like x86 binary compatability (mostly for commerical
games).
I slowly found out more and more about bad batteries with iPods. Sure, some of
those cases were just the fault of a stupid user, but alot of them were caused
by just general use / "wear and tear". I've wanted an iPod since close
to when Apple started releasing them, and not many people had them, but now I
can usually find someone that owns an iPod, and it just feels like a generic
thing to have. There is no Ogg Vorbis support on them either, which is VERY IMPORTANT to me, and I cant live with out
it. Dont tell me to use ipod-linux, its a pain.
And then theres the thing about Apple taking advantage of the open-source
community, and not giving much back. Yeah, I'm sure the khtml developers love
the stuff you've done with the Webcore engine Apple, you asses.
So, on to this Video iPod stuff. Yes, Jobs just wants to make yet even more
money imho, what else? He is not interested in helping anyone but himself it
would seem. Personally, I think it will be expensive, and not many people will
want to buy it, since they are looking for a portable music player, not a video player with a painfully tiny
screen.
I wouldnt go as far as to say Apple have a monopoly in the music player market,
there are still plenty of other music players (eg, the iriver is very nice) that
people can choose from. People just have to get a clue and wake up. You dont
need to use Windows, you dont need to buy an iPod, hopefully you can make the
choice yourself and look at the valid alternatives that are available.
