If that's all he did then it could be just
a compliment. Sometimes when you're with somebody you care about a thought will
just suddenly strike you and you have to tell them how special they are. Just
don't let anyone talk you into something you don't want. Just because he cares,
doesn't mean he always makes the right decision.

compliment (admission of appreciation and attraction), he's probably trying to
get somewhere. Rarely will a male compliment a female with no thought of

careful and take care mostly to be always in a good relation with your friends

thing comes along, they forget you and explore the newer, better thing. There's
a problem with this behavior though. Eventually, your friends find ways of
guarding themselves from you and they lose faith.
People who are honestly complimentary are those that do so regardless of a
payoff. They don't compliment you based on scoring points. They do it because
they enjoy spreading positive feelings. If you think about it, it's these kinds
of people who you always want at your party because they bring UP the event,
rather than bring DOWN the event.
I can't. I'm like character in a harem anime, I'm desensitised to that sort of
stuff (unfortunately). If I know something is a compliment, I don't take it
well, I don't know how to react lol ^__^;;
i suppose it also depends on their motive..like do they genuinely want to be
your friend, or are they just looking to hook up with you for one night.

I would say in the delivery of the comment.
And their actions afterwards. If the compliments always come right before or right after they've just asked you for something it's just sweet talk.
i think you can tell by the amount of enthusiam they display and whether their actions follow up their words
