yes... i searched on this topic, and i didn't find anything like it, so here
goes...
do you think Harry Potter has become too popular? if i were J. K. Rowling, i
wouldn't want the name of my characters to have little TM symbols after them or
to have that many products out... it's almost like the idea had become
mainstream and is no longer so pure... but i guess if i were as rich as J. K.
Rowling, i wouldn't care so much. ^_~
i also heard that the idea for Harry Potter was stolen from another book, in
which the main character is named 'Henry.' does anyone know anything about
this?
i have read the sixth book, but i will not spoil it for you. i will only say
that it was totally awesome and i have been inspired to write rapid fan fics
until the seventh one comes out. ^_^
The people who hate Harry Potter are usually believe kids using magic is the
work of the devil, but they ignore the number of kids and parents who are
learning to read in order to read these books.
well not too sure about it being TOO popular... because usually popularity= more
money. XP and i'm not sure about the idea for harry potter being stolen... i
heard it was the other way around. that some other book stole ideas from harry
potter... well, like anything/anyone that becomes popular/famous... there will
always be people trying to discredit the person/author. *sigh*
I don't buy the idea of stuff becoming too mainstream, unless the product then
starts becoming affected by it. If it reaches a broader fanbase, all the better.
Also, if those little tms and such weren't there, you'd see even more
merchandise, because people could make anything they wanted out of it. Harry
Potter toothpicks anyone?
yes i think its getting to popular
one time nii-sama was trying to read the final chapters and my imoto-san was
trying to get the book from nii-sama he wouldnt give to her and she started to
cry then she complained for a week
the books are real the have some kinda spell muahahaha
hmm actually this is more of addicting than popular i think
I believe He has become very popular for a fictional character.
Aren't there cults or something that think they're actually wizards?
Maybe they are just mental patients or people who dream too much.
It's like this with alot of "products"(anime, movies, books etc.) just
look at naruto, that's the same thing. But believe that books can't become as
mainstream as naruto has become and I don't really feel that the book format
would be troubled because of this but that's just me and I'm not much of a
reader
But I feel that when not too many know about something it's more cozy to talk
about it and find others who enjoys that as much as you do.
The books are helping people to read, and the story lines in the books can
actually become fairly complex and it encourages contrustive thinking to guess
what might happen next. The book is fictional and educational. Look at the harry
potter fan things.....you see all these young kiddies gathering, mixing,
talking, socialising....all bought together just because of a series of books. I
think it's great that people can be bought together by a single common interest
such as a book.
However when it comes to harry potter merchandise.....i really haven't looked
at/for it but i can only guess how badly it's flooded the
market.......yeah....maybe the merchandise has got a bit to popular but it's al
innocent fun right? (i haven't heard of any cases but lets ignore the single
extremist who jumps off a roof thinking they can fly......there always a least
one idiot)
Personally I like the books, they're not too popular; they make people read
& all, that's great (I've believed since I was about 7 that people didn't
read enough - it was all I did though). The movies are a little dodgy, because
they leave out too much, but still not too popular. Those who think kids
shouldn't read about wizards & magic obviously can't have raised their own
kids too well if they can't tell reality from fantasy. The merchandising makes
me think it may be too popular now you mention it... (TM) & little figures,
just like what ruined Star Wars before Lucas had a chance to.
About the accusation she stole the idea from some other woman, who cares? The
law shouldn't. If she stole the manuscript, sure, but the idea? Noone should be
able to own an idea, despite patent law saying otherwise. Beethoven & Mozart
didn't pull their greatest works from their nether regions, they built upon the
work of others. The inspiration & greatness was theirs, & the tunes
& chords may not have been... just like Harry Potter, the execution &
greatness (it is great in a way - very well written to appeal without being
tacky) is JK Rowling's, while the idea of magic, most if not all of the plot
devices, & maybe the idea, are taken
from others.
Edit: I didn't mean to dismiss what others asked about the copied idea - there
was a lawsuit, & Rowling was exonerated, but we'll never truly know. I'm
just going to enjoy her interpretation of said idea.
I think Harry Poter is over rated I have never really been into that sort of
thing. I am sorry for offending any Harry Potter fans, I have friends who are
to. I just don't believe Harry Poter is all that great, there is a lot better
stories out there...hmm anyway who cares I guess if thats what makes you money
hehe
:p
Of course Harry Potter is too popular.. but since lots of people like it, it
must be really good. Actually, I've read most of the books, and it is very
good. Vocabulary kicks butt too.
I liked Harry Potter much more before JKR sold rights to companies like Warner
Bros and Lego to commericalise it. I have the first 5 books, but I havent
bothered to buy/read any more now, since the I dont really like how commerical
Harry Potter now is. The movies sucked BTW, they cut so much out of the books
that it was a real disappointment when I saw them.
I started reading the 2° book, and it was the best one for me. The
last one i read was the 5°, and you can believe me, i remember more
from the 2 book than the 5th and 4th together.
I just didnt like them. To comercial for my taste.
Yes, its way TOO popular.
Peter Potter (thats what I call him) is a P.O.S. rip off of The fellowship of
the rings... Only with kiddy ringading character names and a cast full of over
rated british kids... I dont think there is ANY asian kids in those shows, or
even americans! whats up!? Yep Peter Potter is over rated, and hes probably
racist!

yes. i think so, although i love harry potter. some people hate them or just don't read them! ^^ i love the fantasy though.
The people who hate Harry Potter are usually believe kids using magic is the work of the devil, but they ignore the number of kids and parents who are learning to read in order to read these books.

It isn't a problem when It's popular right? The more the merrier xD

I'm the minority then. I've heard of Harry Potter and I did watch two of movies but I've never read the book. All my friends like it though.
Still, what I like about Harry Potter is that lots of people are reading the book and reading is good as far as I'm concern.
well, for me i don't think Potter popular as any previous Hero out there.. it just related to Hero for little child.. i don't know bout Potter..
Well do you exactly mean by TOO popular?
You think that corporations are taking advantage of such a popular series for their own advantage to make money or something else?
I think if people enjoy something and it isn't causing any harm to anyone why not just let them enjoy it o.O
yes i think its getting to popular

i don't see anything that fantastic about it myself
I think Harry Poter is over rated I have never really been into that sort of thing. I am sorry for offending any Harry Potter fans, I have friends who are to. Yep. That's why Rowling (spelling?) is too rich. = P
yeah, harry potter is extremely popular it's known worldwide. I just hope people like the book not just because of the movie or the actors.
I started reading the 2° book, and it was the best one for me. The last one i read was the 5°, and you can believe me, i remember more from the 2 book than the 5th and 4th together.

Yes, its way TOO popular.
it doesnt seem that popular. ive seen much more popular things that are more ridiculous like the bible or gatorade. lol.
I don't care, I personally don't like harry potter. I think it's for little kinds
