Dot hack//fragment is going to be the first dot hack game that will go online
and i cant wait till it comes out

i have already seen this as well as a new dot hack called .Hack//G.U. or
something like that the trailer for it is confusing but wicked but the fragment
looks like japanese only so far but G.U. i think said coming out 2006 i think
but non the less its going to wicked

With what is currently known about the game I am not interested in it at all.
Other than being a .hack game there doesn't seem anything that makes it stand
out. It may be a bit early, but if it is going to be announced with features it
should have something to draw attention to it besides the name. If they just
said that they were working on the game it would be different, but since they
already started listing features and showing screenshots, it needs something to
make people want to play it.
Also, so there isn't any confusion, this game is not a mmorpg. There is no
persistant world and there is definatly not anything massive about finding 2
people in a lobby to make a game with. There is no interraction with thousands
of people at once. It is more similar to battle.net style multiplayer than a
mmorpg.
3 players is way too small for this type of game, IMO. Making and playing with
friends is a large part of the genre and being limited to 3 people will mean you
won't be able to play with many friends and if you do play with friends there is
little room to meet new people.
So far the game sounds like a bad spinoff of Phantasy Star Universe, just with
less impressive features. It has a single player and online mode, both of which
PSU has announced a while ago. It seems to be a smaller scale of a game as PSU
is supposed to allow more people together in an area than PSO does and this game
puts less people together than PSO does. It also doesn't seem like you will be
controlling your character while in the lobby, so that is another thing which is
worse than Phantasy Star Online.
It also looks like the game will suffer from a few problems. First, it says you
go to their matching server to find 2 others to adventure with. This makes it
sound like it won't be possible to join a game in progress. This is a huge
problem since connections can't always be reliable and if someone drops they may
not be able to get back. Even if it does allow someone to rejoin a game, what
about if someone needs to quit, you may now be down a party member until you
restart and in a group of 3 either every person is very important or every
person is powerful enough to survive on their own without support. My guess is
it will be the first, otherwise there will be little incentive to
group.
Second, the game is hosted on players computers/PS2s. Anyone who has played
Phantsy Star Online online with a console version should recognize this right
away. Hackers, cheats, and lots of them. Without having everything being done
server side it is pretty much impossible to prevent hacking, which can be seen
from Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst. That game is done mostly server side, but
has a few things that are still done on the client so the game still suffers
from hacks. Not nearly as bad as previous versions, but they still exist.
Another downside is that the player who is hosting will likely have control over
your adventure's stability. If they decide to pull their connection, chances are
the 2 others will drop as well. It might be possible to switch the host to
someone who is still there, but I don't know if that is possible.
Since the game is still early in development it is possible things will change,
and I hope they do, otherwise this game won't last long except maybe in Asia and
a few dedicated fans in other locations.
I'm really not excited. I don't like most of the idea's of .hack games OFFline,
and i dare think what would come of them ONline. Firstly, saving and deaths...
if a death in the online version means game over (like in the offline one), then
that sux.
Then, i kinda don't like the idea of having to link PC and a PS2. It would be
kinda problematic for me 'coz i'm always dl'ing about 3 torrents on my pc, which
means that my internet speed is sooooooooo slooooooooow...
Also (judjing by the art) i don't get the trick about mixing almost all the
chars from earlier .hack projects...
Really, they'd better film another anime and drawn another manga, then doing
this...
That's awesome but why not call the game "The World"? Maybe they are
saving that title for an upcomming MMO in the future?
Anyhow I hope that the game becomes much better than the .Hack games that came
to PS2 since they were kind of lame except for the story.
I wounder if it can compete with WoW though, can't be easy to make an MMO these
days with all the ones that are already out.

me too. G.U and the new online will both be in english just after the Japanese version
I want to get them both and i looked at ebgames.com and it said Dot hack//G.U is coming out on November 14, 2005

I can't wait for it to come out! Many .hack fans (including myself) Have had dreams about this day! Okay, not really, but I still wanna play it.
