Im goth, and I've told my friends about it and their okay with it. But how can I tell my parents without them thinking its all dark and satanic? I mean Im not being goth for the darkness, I just really like their style and literature.

You like the style of clothes right? Just bring it up in conversation. Its either right for people or it isnt.

why not? its your style....
but allways ll be people who love/hate, you know that o.O''

well iam not a goth but have some goth friends really i dont think you really need to tell them your a goth if they ask tell them thats how you like to dress and about the poems just say........ it sounds cool. if they dont like it then who cares if they do then there you go

what kind of literature is it?

Your life is yours to live, rise up and live it. It is your life and nobody elses. If you allow your life decisions to be decided by someone else your whole life you are simply inviting every ugly brute that comes along to rule your life. By letting others choose for you, you are simply selling yourself into slavery. Be Goth, if that is what you decide, be a cowboy, be whatever you want, but make sure it is your decision, and not someone elses.

being a goth is dark. if its ur life i guess

One approach might be to simply explain to your parents what you it is you like about goth and make it clear you have no interest in the other aspects of it. Just be ready to deal with strangers (who do NOT know you well enough) who assume that you ARE into the other aspects of goth when you dress as one.......

Being a goth there is nothing wrong with that. Hey im a modern day vampire, if you tell your parents that you are a goth i belive that they will acept u no matter what. Excuse me i need to go back and get arefill from the blood bank.

its fine to be a goth. Just tell your parents that you needed a change and that you started to like wearing darker colours. If you tell them you feel more confortable wearing dark colours than wearing yellow, tell them. They might seem surprised at first, but they will eventually understand and accept what you chosen

~_~ hmm its ur life u can do what u want i mean u cant change other life so y they wana change u they have no right be what u want if u think its good for u do it...i guess no one ca tell u what to do u r not slave ;)
i like goth style its kool smhow not all ov the time for me but smtime ^_^'

It is a life trend after all and if you're wearing it just for the fashion statement then no worries then, after all most kids adapt a trend but don't go out acting the bad parts of that trend.

i dont think people should be goths they only like dark stuff and they like death

Being a goth is just being creative and independantly-minded, all the other stuff that gets bandied about (music, dress etc.) is just quite a common trait, not an essential part of the description. I don't see how anyone non-extremely-closed-minded could object to that.

Goths seems to repel people.

Goth here are like ugly people who have their own way of life. It's not a fashion style in this country. Merely a seperation from groups.

I think I agree with you there. I'm not really fond of goth-style.

I will tell you a little secret ;) . When I was in school, I always found myself attracted to "goth" girls. They seemed mysterious to me, and more perceptive or intelligent than all the "blond bimbos," ha ha.

But seriously, you should be whatever you want to be. But not because anyone tells you to, and not because anyone tells you not to. Just be yourself. And if that means being goth, then so be it :D .

Gothic rules! Black clothes rock. People avoiding you when you walk down the street, kick ass. Music that can raise the dead, or make you question your beliefs. The gothic lifestyle has it's perks. But honestly it's not for everyone. Think about it closely, before you try it out.

Seriously if your questioning it, then it probably isn't what your looking for.

no I dont think goth is bad I'm a goth as well and have meny goth friends I havent told my mom and dad though but I think they can sorta tell I dont tell them becuse I know for sure they'll juge me and stuf like that and thats just what parents do they told me they dident like the music I listen to and the style I ware but I could realy care less. They cant realy force you not to act or ware the things you do so eny way I think you shouldent tell them but thats just me

I'm not goth, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It is simply a form of expression. I work in a place where a lot of goth kids hang out and some fall into the stereo type, but most of them don't. I think that if the subject comes up try to remain calm and explain that this is just a way for you to express yourself and maybe try and show your parents some aspects of the goth lifestyle that they weren't aware of that won't be intimidating for them. I personally enjoy goth imagry and I was surprised when my own mum commented on how cool she thought some of that stuff was. Shocked me because my mum is very very conservative. I'll cut this off now, but good luck and I hope it turns out well.

If ya can't change what ya are and forget about this goth-thing....welll.....U could try 2 talk 2 ya parents nicely bout what ya fancy being. If they refuse 2 accept, just don't bring the sudject up again. All the best!

I dunno. If you just like the clothes and books then you're probably not a Goth, but the term itself is rather nebulous to begin with.

Why do you have to tell your parents you are Goth (or anything, for that matter), anyway?

Labels are for cans. I seriously doubt you're a can.

I also doubt that you're a member of the barbaric tribe of Germanic peoples that terrorized the Roman Empire along with the Huns of Mongolia.

Gothic literature was actually writen during the Romantic Period during the 18th and 19th centuries, depending if you're talking about the British Romantic Period (late 18th Century to early 19th Century) or the American Romantic Period (early to mid-19th Century). It was actually the darker side of the Romantic Period. Since the Romantic Period is gone, Gothic literature is gone. What is written today is just teenage angst, and I've had enough of it to last me into my 100th afterlife.

Research what I told you, and get a fricken clue. Your parents will think it's dark and Satanic because a crapload of these "Goths" are Satanists or Atheists. I'm interested in the darker side of life, and I get labeled "Goth" all the time, that's why I sound pissed, because I am not "Goth," I am a band geek, I am myself. My own mother, who is a Catholic at heart (she's not really Catholic), thought I'd turned Satanist when I bought a pentagram at the Ohio Renaissance Festival in 2004. Really, I bought it because of the ancient meaning of the Pentagram, and it's only Satanic if turned upside-down, and mine is right-side up.

Like I said, do your historical and literary research first. Then you won't catch hell from anyone and everyone.

you sound like what they call a "poser" to me, you're only in it for the fashion, hence you're not really goth. Being goth has nothing to do with satan or darkess, its all about being depressed and hating life, if you wanna die..you're goth.
