I've been thinking about upgrading most of my comp soon, but the main thing i've
been considering is changing to 64 bit chips, most likely the lower end tho.
Some people suggested getting mid to higher end XP's and overclocking but any
opinions?
mmm I have both, but the question is how much power do you need?, if you will
only play and made someworks buy the Athlon Xp 3000 at least and if you will
make a really work you can need Athlon 64.
Well i know a couple of people who buy the amd anthlon 2500+ and overclock it to
a 3200+ speed and only the 2500+ can do that b/c it is the only chip that i know
that is stable when it is overclocked that high.
As for the anthlon 64, i am using the anthlon 64 3200+, and i'm happy with it
cuz of the speed and stablity. Just get a good cooling fan for it and you'll be
fine. Just make sure u have a psu of 420 watts and higher. But if you are not
a budget person and want performance i would rather get the amd fx-53.

Well I made the Overclock to Athlon Xp 2600+ and 2400+ for more 400 Mhz with
Asus Motherboard, 512 Mb DDR pc3200 and of course a mega fan cooler!! but The
Athlon 64 3400+ I didn't need to make a Overclock at this moment.
You're all asshats. AMD locked the 2500+ Barton core after week 39 releases. No
more overclocker wannabe statements out of you bitches.
1. the 64 bit chips have a totally different architecture than the XP
processors. if you buy the chip, you have to get a new Mobo, RAM, and OS.

Umm...yes it's true that amd has locked their chips so u can't oc it, but u can
still oc it by oc the fsb(front side bus).
My friend's 2500+ was locked but he just oc the fsb to oc it to a 3200+. All you
need is better ram like a pc3200 ram, but the whole point is that u can oc a
cpu.
There are ways to go around the locks, don't start thinking that u can't oc a
cpu, when there is a way around the lock.
well i'd probably stay with the XPs. as long as i have the neccessary specs that
allow me to use any program/game then i'm fine. can't you o/c the XPs using the
pencil trick? you have to connect the bridges on the chip. i can't remember the
names of the bridges. o/c is rather unneccesary i think.

o_O Hands down the 64 fx-53 is the mega-horsepower of CPU's.

thanx for the input, hopefully the chip i get will turn out alright ^^
yeah, get a 2500+ for around $80 now and overclock it to a 3200+ and it will be perfectly stable. It will handle everything you'll need.

i kno, but i was planning to upgrade that sutff anyway

overclock or not. 2500+ is a pretty good deal right now.
