Voice Acting - Quality over Quantity?

How do you feel about the English talent working on these licensed animes? I know for a fact that most anime out there have horrible English dubs, There are some notable exceptions though such as Cowboy Bebop. With voice talent such as Steven Blum (Spike Spiegel) and Wendy Lee (Faye Valentine) it was one of the best dubbed series I've ever seen or heard.

But if you've paid attention, you'll notice that the same voice-actors are all over the place. Steven Blum is the voice for many anime characters and it's hard to miss him, he always sounds the same. Talented though he is, he seems to have a limited range. The same is true of many other voice talents. Sometimes you can't help but get the feeling you're watching the reincarnation of some other character because the voice is exactly the same.

Now I know that the same can be said of Japanese voice talents as well. Megumi Hayashibar (my favorite!) has graced a lot of anime with her beautiful voice, but I can't always identify that it's her immediately. It might just be because I'm untrained in listening to Japanese speech and voices, but it usually surprises me when I find out she was the voice actress for some anime babe.

What I'm trying to say is that I'd like to see and hear new actors taking on these roles. What do you think? Am i right, am I wrong, am I just plain ignorant?

I never watch anime with the dub track on unless I have no other choice. If the characters were meant to be speaking in English, they would have made the anime like that.

Some of them really suck big time... cause the re-dub in English doesn't really capture the emotion that you would find in the Japanese or Korean or Chinese versions.

I prefer to watch the Japanese version with subs rather than the English dubbed versions.

That is just my opinion. :)

Is cowboy bepop any good btw ?

luckily u guys didn't watch any malay dub....
a slight hearing of it will make you wanna tear them down. ( i contain my anger by downloading tons of subs)

The anime that has the best dubbing (thus far) that I have seen are: Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Macross Plus & the new Appleseed. The Actors & Actresses were very good and conveyed the emotions that were required and delivered an excellent performance.

There are a few dubs that I do enjoy, but there are even more that I can't stand.
I, of course go for the sub before dub, but you're right. The dub voices are getting very recognizable, I've noticed it too.

You call it talent? HA. XD

I think Cowboy Bebop is very good. Great overall story, plenty of humor, lots of action. May not appeal to everybody though. I know someone who watched it and thought it was blah, O.o

And you all have very good points, I do prefer to watch subtitled anime over dubbed. But sometimes there's no other option or you just feel too lazy to read (though that rarely ever happens to me). Hey, anyone happen to know how to break into voice acting? ^^

Quality!

Quality.
