Please let me try to save you honest folks the 7-8$ you may waste on this
terrible movie. First of all the direction I found simply awful because the
camera angles where atrocious and often blocked your view of what was going on!
Then the plot which I found so predictable I was actually _hoping_ that I would
be wrong. When I was proved right in my assumtion I wished, "please just
let him end the movie on a good note at least!" But alas the ending I found
terrible as well! Please do yourself a favor and skip this one. Even the
"scares" seemed gimicky to me, think "licker smashes through
mirror in Resident Evil 2" not frightenind but just startling. Like when
you where little and kids would clap thier hands in front of your face and go,
"Made you blink, haha you are scared of me!" Anyways there are my 2
cents on this waste of cinema.
I wasn't expecting the ending to be the way it was. Not everybody can think
ahead so fast. But yeah, the scare was more of "jump out of nowhere really
fast" sort. But its still fun to do that sort of thing to other people, so
I found it humorous. At least see it for yourself. Not everybody thinks the
same. I've come close to deciding to watch Harry Potter 3 just so I have a good
reason to make fun of it rather than just making fun of it for fun. Know what I
mean?

thats called foreground framing and it went perfectly with this movie imo, since
it creates this sort of "peeking" feeling for the audience. but i do
agree with you, the move was awful. i thought the story and theme was overall a
good idea, but the script was horribly written and just totally destroyed the
movie. also he could have delivered the shocks better, for example the twist,
isnt even a surprise. if you pay attention in the movie you can see it coming
within the first 20 min of the movie. but i did like the idea/theme about human
nature that he was goin for, i wont spoil it for you but if you planned to watch
it, still do. the movie isnt good, but its not downright horrible. the
execution is just flawed quite a bit
I think that it isnt worth the money. Really. The only scenes I found
interesting were the funny, sweet and even awkward moments between the
characters. The parts that were supposed to be suspenseful or scary were boring
and got old really fast. Not to mention the fact that the drama was secondary to
the writer/director's commentary on human nature. I'm thinking that perhaps
this writer/director should stop messing around trying to make horror and make
some dramatic comedies, I think with his writing style it would work better.
hmm i've just seen the trailer.. and after seeing your opinions i guess it's not
worth the money =P. I think "The ring" was even a better movie than
this one .
The Ringu...the Japenese one, I found to not even be that bad of a movie Robin.
But yeah, save your money on this one for sure! You see how many people agreed
with humble ol' me? Strength in numbers, strength in numbers. Too bad that
bastard already made 80 million on that hunk of junk and you know it only cost
like 10 million, if that to make it!!!! All I can say is, if the main monster
looks like something I could utterly destroy while drunk, then the entire movie
is complete crap, not to mention the shoddy direction, although, the acting in
this movie was really good! The one blind girls sister I found to be a suprising
good actor and she has delivered well in other movies as well, and the main
character (?) guy, he is a very good actor as well. I think I figured him to be
a good actor in Signs but had to see what else he had done to truely be sure...
The shining role in this movie is the guy who did Piano (which I didn't see) who
played the retarded guy, anyone that can drool and twitch that convincingly
deserves to be called an "acTOR. ^____^

A monster you could utterly destroy while drunk, huh? I guess you dont like any
of the Chucky movies, Gremlins, or the Puppet Master movies. Seriously, why be
afraid of something you can just kick, at not even full strength, and still send
it flying across the room. Anyway, I wonder if the guy who played as the retard
will get an award. All the people who have played as retarded people got one.
Tom Hanks, Cuba Gooding Jr.... Those are the only two I can think of. Back on
topic though, I guess I'm one of the only people here who enjoyed it.
Chucky was funny, Gremlins owns, animitronics all the way!!!! Puppet Master, I
found to just plain suck. Well, there where 4 good actors in The Village, I
don't say they earn anything for that movie, but I would very much like to see
them in other movies!!!!
And, if you enjoyed The Village, did you actually find yourself frightened by
that movie? Did you take a knife to bed with you that night???? Honestly when I
play Silent Hill 1, I am frightened for at least a day, no movie or game or book
can do that to me besides SH1!!!!! Untill I see a movie as scary as SH1, I will
continue to denounce them for being stupid and predictable. Long live Harry
Mason's trek through madness!!!!
this movie was the weirdest movie i've ever seen >__< and no it wasn't
scary at all hehe i think they tried to make it scary but was evidently
unsuccessful in doing so
there were some surprised-scary scenes but other than that...

good thing i didnt see it. my bro says the ending was stupid. "im
back!" then it ends. is there a chance they will make a
sequel?
hmm well the "i'm back!" i think is just to say that ivy made it back
before that guy died ;
i dont htink there's going to be a sequel... if there is it's probg oing to be a
new character going back to the town and stuffs... ^^;
The previews seemed pretty scary, but I heard it wasn't that good, and the
ending was a cop-out. I already spoiled the ending for myself and I thought it
was pretty genius =p I might rent it one day...

why are you calling him bastard? so now cause he made one bad movie he is a
bastard? then i guess spielberg is no good for making Lost World, Kubrick is a
bastard cause he made Eyes Wide Shut, etc..
Also, when did it matter how much the movie costed to make, some of my favs
didnt even cost a mil. Pi & Reservoir Dogs only costed around 50k yet both
did damn well.

.....so one flaw in the movie and it sucks in your mind, gee your not open
minded at all. And besides what did you expect? duh...the monster looks lame,
cause if you saw the movie.......well cant spoil it for others.
I admit this is Shyamalan's worst film yet, but I don't think any one of you has
the right to call it a 'hunk of junk.' In it's own way it was a very creative
movie. How many other movies have you seen that are like The Village? Though the
overall plot was a bit thin and the idea was a bit lame, Shyamalan still did an
excellent job executing it. So what if you could predict the ending? There were
little things about the ending that still gave it some shock value. And
h3llb3nt, before you can say you could kick the monser's ass drunk, imagine
yourself in the middle of the lonely woods, believing in some sort of creature
hunting you, and hearing strange noises. Even if you were piss drunk, you would
still scream like a little girl and probably wet and shit your pants at the same
time, so shut the hell up. And just because the monster looks like crap to you,
doesn't mean the movie is crap. For chrissakes if you look at movies like
Gremilns, they aren't scary at all, in fact they were lame as Hell, but the
movie isnt necessarily crap. I'd like to see any of you make a better film with
that kind of plot, or better yet, i'd like to see any of you actually make a
decent film. Calling someone else's work junk when you probably can't even make
anything better is downright stupid and hypocritcal.
I'd also say the Village is a weak movie overall because of some major flaws
1. The dialouge was sub par, Shamalon should not write.
2. The plot was sub par, Shamalon should not write.
3. It wasn't scary.
4. The acting was average, some actors good some actors bad.
But I think the Village did have it's momments. Such as how it talks about the
manipulative power of fear, and I enjoyed hearing Joaquin Phoenix's speech on
courage as well as the touch Shamalon made on belief and faith (not in a religon
but in an idea) in the Village. The Village also talked about innocent and
how/if it can be protected. It also had great cinamatography and music.
Like others have said, the Village boils down to being a movie with a great
concept, executed well, just with a horrible script.
And h3llb3nt, yes Shamalon is a bastard because all he does is whore himself out
to the next commercailzed movie that will make him the most money! He obviously
doesn't care about his movies, which is why he doesnt write, produce, and direct
each one hes made.
good to find some people who aren't ga-ga over this shamalan,
shamalama-ding-dong or whatever his name is...his stories are dry and
predictable, his casting sucks, and the actor's performances are wooden ala the
recent star wars movies...sad to see that this is where the "horror"
movie genre is heading
Quote by h3llb3ntSchnell sums it up

Holy shit, h3llb3nt, you must be as stupid as you are "drunk" because
anyone who thinks that Shamalon is a money whore obviously knows nothing about
movies, the movie industry, or Shamalon, and should have no right to comment on
anyting related to the medium. I assumed even a half retarded boy could have
figured out that my last comment in the post above was sarcasm as its utterly
RETARDED!

Sense, and hes casted the likes of Sam Jackson, Bruce Willis, and Mel Gibson?
Who the Hell do you think would be good casting? Ben Affleck? Snoop Dogg? SHUT
THE HELL UP! Sure the actors weren't great in The Village, but don't go on
generalizing his casting without knowing shit. And h3llb3nt, shut the Hell up
about being drunk all the time. Do you not understand that no one gives a rat's
