Who here believes in tit-for-tat??

I do. I know what goes around comes around so to speak.

I read the rules in the noob files before I made this (and used the search box as well). I didnt find this subject at all.

what is it ?!?

basicly if you do something good or bad you get yours in return

If I do a good thing I don't wait for a return.... give is a free gift not a "waiting for returns" thing....
sorry my english is very poor !! ^_^'

that is okay... you dont normally have to wait for it. it just happens

maybe yes.. maybe no... ;)

Do u mean like eye for an eye thing? Yeah, sure I belive in it :).

that is a nice saying thank you for shareing that :)

Definately believe in tit-for-tat as you call it. Eye-for_an_eye in my religion (Islam). It's very real. Can't prove it of course, but hey... u only need to believe.
magic

yeah i belive that what goes around comes around, my mom has a bad habit at blaming things on other people when a situation is really her fault, and the next thing i know something happens to her, but she still finds a way to blame it on something else >.<

I also bleive this statement. I once gave some kid I dint know a dollor, for he had now lunch. The next day, he gave me two sodas!

^^;

I am a strong believer of that statement.

This seems similar to karma, anyway i do things from the heart i dont really care if ill get anything in return from it.

it is karma

Tit for tat?
Something bad you do; something bad will happen to you?
Something bad you do; conscience might eat you
Something bad you do; something good you (might) have for the moment
then Something bad you do(relentless); everything bad turns to you...!

Wow...er...that last one was a bit deep - can't quite follow it...sorry.

Tit for tat (as far as I know) is abbreviated from "This for that", i.e. you reap what you sow - you get THIS for doing THAT.

Maybe not on the meta-physical scale, bt definately on the personal level - if you're nice to people, they'll be nice to you - if you help them, they'll most likely reward you, and vice versa - if someone helps you, you are obliged to help or reward them in turn, or at least be in their dept. I once changed the tyre of a girl friend, and, say a month afterwards, her mother treated me to a very expensive reastaurant (I thought she was sponsering my beer so I went budget on the meal ^^;). So on a personal level definately.

Proffesionaly maybe as well - you treat your cliets well, and they will return to you.

Governmental - forget it! You pay all your taxes, and the politicians - who never paid their own taxes (at least here) gets a free trip to the tropical island of their choice.

In the bible there;s the quote (sorry if I can't translate it ideomatically): throw your bread unto the waters because after many years it will return (that menas investing on trade ships) but also: don't throw your pearls in front of the pigs and the dogs becuase they will trample it and tear it up (i.e. don't be nice to people who won't appreciate it).

So, you decide.

Wow, I just killed my post. So I'll just retype it. XP

If you kill someone, your conscience might bother you until you go insane, or the law will get you, or both.

If you surpise your mother with dinner when you know she's had a bad day, you'll be rewarded with her happiness when her face lights up, and she might give you something nice later to thank you. Also, you get the happiness that comes with knowing you made the world a little better.

My personal philosophy of life is that life has a different meaning to everyone, that happiness manifests itself in different ways, that we choose our own destiny, and that it is our choices that form the world around us, not the choices of some higher power.

On the same token as that, since the world isn't perfect, it doesn't mean that a murderer can't win the lottery. It also doesn't mean that a person who is generous, friendly, and happy with life can't be raped, murdered, or accused of a crime they didn't commit.

It is a true test of us to see if we can overcome the terrible hardships and unfairnesses of life and continue to live for the sake of living, and in effect start the cycle all over again.

So in a way, yes, I do believe in "tit-for-tat", but also, in a way, no...

listening to Alicia Keys Karma....well let just says its a part of my religion so yeah i believe it happens.
funny how i once beat up a guy and then three days later i got into the hospital for breaking my fist over him....
i seem to have punched him in the wrong spot...

I don't give anyone a tattoo no matter how many times she shows me her tits

A lol for BorisGrinshenko

I believe in karma and what goes around comes around, but I do not agree with "revenge" and "an eye for an eye". An eye for an eye only leaves the whole world blind as the saying goes (Ghandi).

Experience taught me otherwise - accidents can happen to people who are completely undeserving. Fot example, when I get out of bed, and walk into the wall, banging my head, I do not look for the reason by trying to remember if I were nasty to someone. I was merely sleepy and couldn't see were I was walking.

History taught me the rest: that man is capable of the worst autrocities immaganible, but then also some of the most sel-sacraficing deeds, both of which will be/are/was unrewarded.

There is ironic coincidences yes, but they are the minority.

This is not to depress or anger anyone, lets just say that due to my own experience this is what I believe. If your experience taught you otherwise, go for it!

I beleive in a more forgiving life ideal. I'll use a favorite saying of Gandhi which describes exactly how I feel about it.

Quote by Mahatma Gandhi
An Eye for an Eye makes the whole world blind.

:) I think fighting fire with fire just makes more fire. If everyone was always not understanding and always expect good in return of good and lash out bad in return for bad, then we'd have a very selfish and violent society. :/ I agree that what goes around comes around, but I shouldnt be intentionally trying to force the second part of that phrase to happen.
