I'd go for ps3, even if you only want ps2 games, you might end up wanting
sequels to those or whatever that only are for ps3, and then you'd just end up
wasting money. Probably the only reason to go out and get like a used ps2 is
obviously because of the drastic difference in price. If waiting is an issue
then you could get a ps2 and then when the ps3 comes out sell it or maybe give
it to somebody as a present.
I'd say it depends on how much you want to spend. I don't think a price for PS3
has been announced, but it's probably going to be quite expensive. I suggest
getting a PS2 and enjoy all the great games cheap. When the PS3 comes out, PS2
games will probably become cheaper as well. Then you can play lots of PS2, and
by the time you really want a PS3, it would probably be a little cheaper than at
launch, and there will be more games on it.
i remember when I first got the PS2, I pretty much only bought 2 games for it
and had to wait for the ones I wanted. So wait, and you'll have a lot more
games you'll want to get.

Hmm i would recomend to save money for ps3 and if you are rich just buy a psp
and play some games on school/work/bus/market. Anyway ps3 have option to play
psx and ps2 games to its a waste of money to buy ps2. But its your money so do
as you wish.
Yes I agree with Strident. I myself bought a ps2 on launch and I didn't play it
much because there weren't any games I really wanted to play. And isn't the ps3
coming out next year? Seems a long time to wait for a new console. I would go
with the ps2 for the large number of games.
All I have to say is...ARE YOU ON crack?! how long ago did the ps2 come out,
and you are JUST now considering buying one? Apparently you dont play games
that often, so I'd just wait for a ps3, or just wait till the ps4 even.
Anywho, I personally just buy them all...kind of a collectore type thing, as
soon as the ps2 came out I bought it, in fact I have a first edition ps2 in
working order, and it's worked since I bought it, I remember so many of those
early models had problems, in fact 3 of my friends had to return their original
models cause of defects only to get them replaced with newer models. I have
my ps1 boxed up in perfect condition like the day I bought it, soon as I buy my
ps3, thats where my ps2 goes back in it's box like when I just bought it.
go for a ps3.....I mean whats the point in gettin a ps2 when the ps3 is only
around the corner....u mite wanna buy a ps2 to play now but it wouldn't be
worthit to just buy a system to play for a few months then buy another
system.....play with ur comp or borrow 1 from the video store....no point gettin
