Do you first draw on paper then scan and do the rest on Paintshop or some else program?
I was told to start first draw with pen and paper if i was going to learn how to make wallpapers.
Can someone of you great artists tell me how you do it? I really want to make som nice wallies to.

I'm wondering that as well. I'm very eager to learn. :)

Same here, would be cool to know

hi there ^^
well, i also am new to making wallpapers. i only done a bit of signatures for some boards.
i didnt begin with drawing something myself and the processing it, i just took two pictures and put them together in a way that seemed to fit ^^ (sorry but it was deleted)

well whats probably elementary with doing wallps is that you are familiar with your graphic software (i using Picture Publisher8 for example). practise a lot, check out as many effects as possible, cuz it is easiest when you know how to get to what you want ^^
for that wallpaper i only used the mask funtion to copy the girl, and then the transparency function, which is probably one of the most used for wallpapers.
have a look at your fonts (usually in C:\windows\fonts\ ). u should collect some fonts of every kind. where to get them? look at dafont.com or search via Google
for the death part in my pic i just copied the textobject, so i actually got the same piece of text three times, and just moved them a few pixels.

so, go and collect material. watch for pics that you can easily cut with masks, i.e. figures that dont have paling effects from light or something on them. get pics for backgrounds - i have most of them from MTs abstract section, but also from some other sites ^^ just keep your eyes open.
and the most important thing: practise practise PRACTISE!
get used to the masks, above all the freehand mask (cuz which character is squared or circled? XD). watch how to use the text objects. and practise with layer-editing and transparency stuff.

keep this sentence in mind: If you wanna do Grapics, then dont be affraid of your Software!

thats actually all i can say here. feel free to ask if anything isnt clear ^^ and one final tip for you: reember, that every software has an undo-funtion. and the modern graphics-progs can undo almost everything u did sincs you opened the pic!
so try! if youy dont like it click undo and try again or something else ^^

laterz, hkk

^_^! hkk thats pretty good tutorial! i agree with yah but i use brushes to make my backgrounds now, i used to use other plps backgrounds for stuff cause i was clueless abotu everything XD!

What pics are we allowed to take from MT website for our own Wallpaper? (If we're even allowed?)

Like editing out a existing pic then making it into a wall?

when i make wallpapers of my own i just draw the pic and scan it then i use photoshop and then i jus go on the internet and find a cool wall to apply my pic to at least thats how i do it.

well, you can use the scans here for your walls, but not someone's wall and you just put some filters on it and call it your wall. that is called ripping. so do not use someone's creation as part of your wall unless you have permission.
and when making a wall. first you find a scan you would like to use for your wall. then you make the bg. then when you are done, you paste the scan on the bg. then you're done. some ppl say make a sketch of your wall first. so you kinda like plan how your wall will look like.

You are allowed to use scans for your wallpaper. Most folks find a nice image and extract the character (cut them out from the background) using either the polygonal lasso tool or the pen tool. For backgrounds, people do lots of things. Some folks work from scratch, using the brushes, filters, etc. Some folks use stock photographs (photography that is royalty-free) to help them create a background. Etc and so forth.
You are not allowed to use someone else's wallpaper to make your own. In the FAQ it clearly states that you are not allowed to alter somebody else's wallpaper and submit it as your own. You should make the background yourself.

well if you are good with drawing you could scan it and place it on your wallpaper BG but if are not (like me ><) i suggest you use scans and clean it properly for the charcater you want ...

for backgrounds you shouldn't take anyones elses thats seriously wrong T T create your own by using brushes (you could find great brushes in deviantart) or stock pictures which i seldom use XD
hopes this helps if you need help in ps feel free to ask me even cause i know what it feels like to be a noob (been there) :)

Well if you are really interested in starting to make wallpapers, then you might want to get a character scan that you really like. You extract that character from the background then paste it on a blank canvas. Once that is done, try to imagine an amazing background that would fit with the character. If the character is walking and is dressed in highschool uniform, you might want to place the character in a school yard. Maybe you would rather make an abstract background with nice colors, then you can read up tutorials on how to do abstract work. The possibilities are endless. It is up to you on how it will look. The drawing part is just a sketch of how you want your background to look before hand. Just like an outline before an essay =_=. Also, work hard at it. Good luck :P.

omg i never did this before and i rlly want to learn it,2;-; coz so many wallpapers here looks so nice+wonderfullT.T' i dont even know if i have time for making this..but i would love too..even it look so hard doing this:/ my bf told me to show me how it works..but i´m still waiting for his lessons..i dont have so many knowledge with photoshop..i think i onl< have to try.

i tried extracting but its hard work like how the character is blend into the background, cant get it right

yes thats are my problems too..or i dunno why..but its hard for me to c how i cut soemthing of the picture out.. there are still..how can i say.. like on my anime figure are still things hanging from the backround on her.. can someone understand me T.T? (srry for my bad english..)

What are you using to extract your image? It sounds like you're still getting some of the background in your extraction. I would suggest using the polygonal lasso or the pen tool, zooming in very close to the character's outline (at least 500%) and making sure you're selecting within the thin outline, not outside of the character. It's better to sacrifice a thin bit of character outline rather than carrying some of the background into the extraction.

you can draw your own drawing and scan it, color it, and use photoshop to edit it?
