I think the subject pretty much sums it up... some people really like the
english dub overs because they find that the subtitles are a hassle to read or
something. and yet... i cant seem to find the same amount of effort they put
into it unlike thier japanese counterparts, not to mention it can be rather
subpar, and only here would the voice actors sue for royalties
i like the original...cuz it sounds like its them...thats the character im
lookin for...but the english dub...its like watchin a chinese movie moving their
lips rapidly and speaking simple words

(not sure if it's true or not).
For Video games...mrhmmm...that all depends on the game. If the acting is good
and the voices fit I'd rather hear the english dialouge and I even leave the
subtitles up. The thing that I've noticed with the Japanese language is that
those same exact subtitles that the English speakers say word for word are still
there. They haven't changed one bit! So if you're wanting an exact translation
you're going to need to understand Japanese itself. I've caught bits and peices
that I know they said more than "Eh, whatever," and I have only been
studying the language for a year!
Overall I don't really sit on either side of the fence, I'm still reading the
dialouge no matter what language I'm listening in.
unlike the Anime dispute where subs are a clear winner, at least in Video Games
english voice overs aren't half bad, some or most voices suiting the characters
of that video game very well. So I'm 50/50 on this subject.
Some horrible horrible dubbed games: Final Fantasy X (ok, some characters like
Wakka were superb but e.g. Yuna? God!), Disgaea, Valkyrie Profile.
Good ones: Otogi, Resident Evil and Silent Hill (actually I'm pretty sure the
*original versions* are already done in English and just subbed for the Japanese
audience on these 2 series)
I understand they took out the original voice tracks up to this generation of
consoles on many games but with the new huge storage media on the next
generation there will be no excuse left. I hope they'll just give you the option
to choose finally.

applies, it has english voices even in the japanese versions.
As for me, if I have the choice to choose the original voices (japanese) I
always choose them, I can't stand english dubbs.... That's why I got kind of
pissed when I found out that Sonic Heroes only had english voices... Sonic
Adventure 1 and 2 had the option to change the voices to english or
japanese.
And another thing... If you someone says that the english voices are better, I
suggest that you play Baten Kaitos..... And don't come complaining to me that
you got deaf...
I loooove the original... dont matter if i dont understand, id prefer read sub
before listen a ugly or dont macth voice in a wonderfull game ^_^

ive only ever heard originals as of late since i only just modded my ps2 but I
love the original sounding voices but at times its hard during game play to work
out what is going on specially when its choice based. I have original and dub
working together each at a 50/ 50 liking
I usually go the lazy route when it comes to games and take the english
voiceovers. Sometimes if they are really horrible I will contemplate turning
them off for something less distracting, but for the most part they are fine.
As to anime though...well, I won't get into that here...

400% agree. And sometimes they can't just give you the sensations they are feeling: surprise, anger, joy, etc.

I prefer the original but if the voiceover is done nicely, i dont mind having voiceover instead. Coz this way i dont have to read the subtitles haha.
