Has anyone noticed how awful the sailor moon dubs are? I'm refering to their new
names, their new transformation phrases and the voices.
Just want to see everyone else's opinion.
Sailor Moon was actually the first anime show I ever watched in America, so I
absolutely did not pay attention to the people who made the show in the end. A
few years later, I began learning about the companies and the people who did the
voiceovers. At the time, I did not know it was a dub until I actually came
across Minitokyo and learned that the dubs aren't as good as the original. Then
again, when is a replica or a multiple edition of something better than the
original?

Hahaha, very true
Dubs are never better than the originals. Well said!
I think you never know how bad it's something until you see something
better.
When I watched SM on TV, I watched the Mexican dub...
Years later, when I started downloading episodes, the first ones were of the
American dub. God, I loved it maybe
the translation wasn't great, but I liked the voices.
And then...I got the Japanese episodes. Now I think that almost all the dubs
sucks But they're good if you want to get your first impression of an
anime, in your tv...
i grew up watching sailor moon, i dont really want to hear the japanese audio
lol or go back to the original names cause it would be too weird for me, as i
grew up with it hehe
as for dubs being worse than original, id agree i guess, but in this case it
dont worry me as well thats how i know sailor moon

original japanese version (with subtitles) and I loved it!

lol
well i wouldnt be able to watch it in original cause well it would ruin it i
guess for me, its my way or the highway
I also grew up on the Sailor Moon dub. I just accepted it and didn't really care
either way. Even now it doesn't bother me, except for giving Naru that ny(?)
accent. But I guess if it were the opposite scenario, I would probably have a
very different opinion.
i did see some episodes subbed and yeah those senshi have very high-pitched
voices.
Firstly, nothing beats the original. Dubs are about 99% bad, but....
You have to think about all those newbies that we want to attract to anime.
S.M. was my first love of anime. At that time it was dubbed in English, but in
the beginning it was not that bad. The voices for the first 2 seasons are still
better than many of the high pitched Saturday morning cartoons/anime I see
today.
The worst dubbing of an anime I have ever seen is SuperS. I couldn't even sit
through the whole episode when it came back on tv as specials. I think you meant
this. Yes the names were changed horribly and the voices sounded so corny, it
was painful. All the jokes were changed and some scenes were completely cut. I
feel bad that many potential fans probably got scared off.
On the other hand, I have seen all the Japanese episodes and some are not that
great either. Actually S.M.'s orig. transformation song, if any, in the
beginning was pretty bad. They would just repeat her name over and over. Other
weapon attacks had the actual toy sound in the attack, which sounded very
cheesy.
Finally after the horrible plot in SuperS, Sailor Stars was such a great way to
end the season (even though it is almost completely different from the manga).
We finally got to see the the ending for SuperS, the inner and the outer work
together, Sailor Saturn use her attacks, Darien/Serena, a real strong enemy that
actually kills people! Lots of serious and emotional situations and some nudity.
Probably why it will never be shown in the U.S.
Everyone should SEE Sailor Stars! The Final and one of the Best seasons! Sorry, I can go on and on sometimes so thanks for the thread and
maybe we can chat again sometime. Take Care

Just because it's a dub doesn't make it bad. Chances are because you aren't from
the native Japan you won't catch flaws that are in the originals of shows. Shows
can suck in the original language, too. Being the original voice over doesn't
mean that they always fit the character. It has alot more to do with being open
minded. I think some people would be shocked to know there are Japanese people
who *gasp* like English dubbings more than the first voices!
Sometimes one had to watch different versions before comparing... seriously
speaking, i think the japanese versions was better than the dubs version

I was first introduced to Sailor Moon by watching the dub version. But as I got
hold of the subtitled versions of the series as well as the "Super S"
(Fourth season spin-off movie), I really stated to enjoy the original dialogue a
lot more. You can easily pick out the differences in translation between the
English dub and the subtitles. And easily determine why the people at DiC
Enterprises did not go too well when translating Sailor Moon from the Japanese
dialogue to English (no offence to the translators at DiC Enterprises by the
way). Sure you can understand it a bit more by having the English dub, but you
just can't beat the original dialogue - hands down.

There was no need to be rude.
