John Carmack, id Software's coding genius has in a recent interview shown on G4tv made some statements regarding the PS3 Vs Xbox 360 issue. Though this is only the opinion of a high profile programmer, his opinion should be a lot more valid than the millions of forum posts on the subject.

Basically he says that the PS3 is more powerful, but the 360 has better development tools and is his preferred console to develop for.

I'm with 360 all the way, a because of PS2 I stay away from it now.

well if you look at the developer that the 360 have obtain, a lot more tittle from japan is gonna be on the 360..... just look at these rpg .......it's so earlier and soo many more developer have already jump abroad the 360......i think the developing tool have something with this

Well this is no big suprise in my mind. Mind you the PS2 was released much before the Xbox was, so I mean even though some will argue the Xbox was a better system the PS2 was comparable...

Personally I own both, but I much rather picture myself with a PS3, before I invest more money in the mining operations @ microsoft (and no... it doesn't cost $50 a year to Xbox live. Since the games aren't hosted on live, live mearly acts as a tracker. Nearly 95% of that should be considered profit, considering their over 1 mil. active subscribers - you do the math...).

But eventually I'll become weak and frail and breakdown and buy a 360... not a game yet on the release besides Halo3 perhaps that seems worthwhile. And yes I am a former fan of rare brand games -> perfect dark zero.

At the moment it is to early to say which is going to be the best, both are going to be exalent machines and with what microsoft have lernt from the first X box it should be better. My only concern with the 360 is that it will ship with a version of windows media center, which rases issuses with security when you are on the internet. I want to know more about the security first.

No to say that sony dont have the same issues with the PS3 but, i know more about the vaunrabilitys of windoes software.

The XBox maybe easier to develop for but if I remember that interview (plus a bunch of other talk from other designers and such) developing for the PS3 won't be as hard as the current generation's PS2.

i think the PS3 will be a lot better

PS3 all the way....

The only real issues that I'm aware with PS3 is that (i) it'll not accept CDs anymore i.e. say goodbye to PS/PS1 titles and (ii) Sony has some very minor problems with its backwards compatibility engine. However as for (i) - why would anyone want to play PS titles on a 3rd gen console? As for (ii) - the problem registered only with a very few number of games on PS2 so I'm confident they'll have it under control.

That said, I'm going to get both 360 & PS3 but I'll wait until the 2nd version release (at least) so that both Microsoft & Sony will have fixed whatever problems that'll crop up in the 1st version release. Until then my PS2 will work just fine.
