I am a firm believer that any piece of art should be viewed or appreciated in
its original form, so as a rule I tend to either avoid the English dubbed
versions of anime, or when I have no other choice, tend to feel fairly
underwhelmed by the talent of the English voice actors. Case in point:
Evangelion in Japanese is glorious...Evangelion in English is sometimes
embarrasing....
However, I know that few things in this life are absolute and concrete, and I am
the first to admit that I think the English dub of the anime Golden Boy actually
surpasses the quality of the Japanese version. Sure, some of the voices are less
than ideal, this is true. But quite frankly, whomever provided the English voice
for Kentaro deserves at least a pat on the back for just going all out and
injecting all the insane energy the character needed to come alive! Most English
dubs sound like they were being read out of a phonebook....this guy sounds like
he lept and crawled and danced all around the soundstage....Loved it!
I'd love to know if any of you support my choice on this, or if you think I'm a
freaking idiot! Or, perhaps there is another anime where you actually prefer
listening to the English version rather than its original Japanese! Don't be shy
now! ;-)

I firmly believe in the same belief. I also believe that Golden Boy is one of
the FEW english dubs out there. The voice acting made the anime even more
enjoyable to watch because of the increased humor in the voicing of the
characters. One of few that I actually liked and didnt mind hearing in english
dub.
The show is good and all and the voice acting is pretty good but the wierd thing
about it is that it isn't suppose to be about the voice acting but the jokes
that are made in the show about how preverted it is.
I agree with you, GoldenBoy (an anime all should see) is one of the best english
dub made...in fact I don't remember watching it in Japanese because I was well
satisfied with the english voices, I think Doug Smith (Kintaro) did a great job
on making me laugh and believing that someone could actually get excited over a
toilet bowl ...I also think Fruits Basket has great english dub.
ah Golden Boy had a great English Dub. one of the few (actually i Dont know
any others ) I really hate dubing. Especially when a certain anime is dubbed in
my native Language (Filipino). The voice actors just don;t have the right
emotions feelings and such.
