Watched the end of Samurai Champloo today. Great series, but some things bug me
about the ending.
In episode 24, Jin is talking to Fuu at the riverbank at night, and he asks her
what she'll do after she's found the samurai who smells of sunflowers. And then
he starts saying "If I..." but she interrupts him before he can
finish. If he what? "If I were to take care of you", "If I
die"? And then Fuu goes on talking about Mugen. Does it mean she's in love
with Mugen, and that she's turning Jin down?
And then it's the end. They all go their separate ways. Why? Jin found friends
for the first time, Fuu didn't want to part and Mugen... well, i don't know
about him. Wouldn't Jin want to stay together with his friends? And if Fuu is in
love with Mugen, wouldn't she want to stay with him?
*sigh* I just don't get it.... it just seems so... sad.
i think that the ending was very fitting, because the three of them were kinda
thrown together for the sake of finding the sunflower samurai... they wouldn't
really have a reason to stay together afterwards... it's not like they're never
going to see each other again. (plus, jin's got brothel woman--the woman he
helped escape in the earlier episode )
I loved the ending, nut that's exactly ehat I asked myself! I think that Fuu has
really fallen in love with Mugen. And he know's it! Like down there at the
river, he heard what Fuu told Jin there!
The ending is very weird, but fits it. I
can't think of any other better ending. Imagine them going adventuring all over
again? It's kinda like the series doesn't end.
Well, as fireflywishes noted, the ending was as artificial as the beginning.
But, as I noticed in a lot of anime's, the beginning and the ending are
sometimes really poorly done - as if it doesn't matter. What matters is
everything in between. The biginning is just there to start the adventures, and
the ending is merely an ending. Your supposed to remember the content, not
beginning and ending.
At least that's how I explain it to myself so that I can overlook that slightly
open and hasty openings and endings.
Well, i do understand why they parted (even though i wrote all that up there
*points*). I just didn't want them to! Sad, so sad. But maybe they met again.
Who knows?
Did anyone notice when Fuu started having feelings for Mugen? I didn't. I know
she was jealous of the boys going off with other women but it never seemed like
she was especially into one or the other. Of course i was hoping for it to
happen
I have to agree that the ending seemed a bit unresolved... That they all part
and you don't know if they meet again- but of course this is what you want to
insist will happen. I just loved everything about the series- and as I was
nearing the last episodes i felt a certain amount of dread- yet the very open
conclusion kind of leaves room for... what, I don't know. In my heart of heart I
would like to see a season 2- i want to know what happens to all of the
characters. And I can't help but hope, given how popular the show is. And even
if their is no more anything (even an OVA might be nice) I can still think of
them as somehow running into each other again- consider all of the pseudo
split-ups that happened before.
I also really liked the Fuu- Mugen implied romance. Jin does have the girl he
met earlier- so I think that he would find happiness with her. And i think that
Fuu has the ability/ desire to soften Mugen's rough edges. Then there is also
the girl that was a secret agent/officer/spy(?) They also seem like they could
have fun. Maybe the lack of an ending- well, as far as who ends up with who-
allows everyone (Mugen-Fuu camp, Jin-Fuu camp) to be happy. I almost think that
Fuu needs someone completely different- if Mugen and Jin were one man- it would
be perfect...
Gosh, now i am simply rambling- I'll admit I don't really know what to think-
and I might have even contardicted myself, too. I definitely would, however,
like to see more Samurai Champloo- an OVA or a second season... sigh- wistful
thinking.
The ending was something that I was expecting, but I didnt' think that Mugen was
so tactical to do that and Jin almost killed himself to do what he had to
do.
I'm not gonna say what happened, because I don't want to give it away. I'd say
it was a 9.5/10
