Does anyone here read this series? What are your thoughts on it? Do you like it? Too long? Character development problems?

There are now 12 books in the series, including a prequel. they are:

prequel: New Spring
1: Eye of the World
2: The Great Hunt
3: The Dragon Reborn
4: The Shadow Rising
5: The Fires of Heaven
6: Lord of Chaos
7: A Crown of Swords
8: The Path of Daggers
9: Winter's Heart
10: Crossroads of Twilight
11: new Knife of Dreams

I personally love it, and am sad that there is only one more book coming out. I don't think it is too long and love all the character development and growth. I need the newest book, Knife of Dreams. Other than that I have read all the other books out thus far in the series. I think that Jordan is a wonderful writer, and enjoy the world he has set up for this series. What do you guys/gals think?

Ive never read the books I was gonna order em once from a book club Im a member of but I never did

Hey I heard about this series and was wondering if they were worth buying ...
After what you said mahkohime I think I will buy them, I love books with good characters development!^^

These books have something for everyone (generally speaking. Really, I mean most people).
Humor, sadness, action, insane killing, sex appeal, just plain sex (without saying it out....), randomness, good vs.evil, romance...ect. Like I said, I love the character development. It gets to be like these people are almost real, and you get to see their personalities in depth. Each person also has much growth and development as the storyline progresses.

I've heard of the series through a friend of mine. Usually complains about the long wait time between new releases, but that's the regular story with ongoing series' in from other authors. Thanks for the list, i might just check into it one day.

I just finished the 8th book. I've been buying them because my book selection in my little part of Japan is limited. But they have this series for some reason... Anyway, I like it, but it seems to be the same thing happening over and over. I want something surprising to happen.

I enjoy the series alot. The storyline is pretty good, the battles are fairly detailed, and the characters are cool (I love Matt). However, maybe it's just me, but I see a very large downside to the novel.

Every single female in the series, from the noble Aes Sedai to the common farm girls, is arrogant. They all think that they should control guys and their destiny, because otherwise they would screw everything up. And none of them trusts Matt >_< The females have all the magic users, then one male magic user comes up and they all insist on basically killing him. It got too annoying for me.

But anyway, other than that, I really enjoy reading the series.

By the way, I love the poems from the series. My signature is of the last poem in book 10.

kyokujitsu: Yeah, I've noticed that about the females in the series, too. But you know why they want to kill the male magic user(s). It's about what happened in the past. It still gives them no right, but oh well. Maybe this is done to sharply contrast the women and men in the series. I mean, it's almost a complete matriarcal (spelling?) society. Aes Sedai, Woman's Circle, Queens....ect. I tink Matt is cool, too. He is one of my favorite characters. I feel kinda sorry for him, though. He doesn't have a special "power" like Rand or Perrin, and yet still gets dragged into the middle of things. Yeah, there's the memories of old thing and such...but other than that, I'd say he's the most normal of the 3 boys, in a sense.

I like the books. Ive read up to the middle of Crossroads of Twilight (I may start reading again since the next book came out.) The only thing I don't like about the books is that Jordan spends too much time describing things...

Zoku88,

That's apart of this "Writing style," and thus why he is so well known cause he is very "Detialed" in his writing. I mean, ya don't want someone sayin', "Gwy swung his sword to the left, and to the right barely cutting Ceriles" That's just to bland to me. Yet, everyone to their own. I do respect that. =P

About the series: It's truly, truly immense. I recall pickin' up in about 95' the series (When The "Dragon Reborn" just got finished writing. The "Eye of the world" caught my eyes, plus I was a young punk teenager that was lookin' for a good bock to readin' druing SSR (Sustianted Silent Reading). Ever since then I fell in love with the series, despite I've been wanning away from it.

My fave character will always be Moraine...she just pwned. Didn't take crap for anyone, except maybe Suian, but since they have been friends for so long it would be understandable. Still, she rocks, and always will be!

There ya go,
Ali

What I don't like is the amount of time he spends repeating himself. Ok, Rand is mad. Yeah, sorry to hear that. No need to describe it again and again in every chapter. It just gets a bit redundant, IMO. Sometimes it feels as if he is writing to someone that can't remember anything.

Mistress,

Maybe he is gettin' he going crazy, fans, book deadlines, being hold himself (60s I do believe), and I've also heard rumours of him havin' cancer. I'm not sure if this is true or not, but that would way why be the last book, and also...why he repeats himself a bit. Hehe. I do agree with you on the Rand thing all the way.

Just my thought,
Ali

From what i have heard its a really good book series but its just to long, apparently by the time you get to book 9 you forget what happened on book 1-5... hehe

This book series is excellent. Character development is great, especially for the main three ta'veren. It was great to see Rand evolving from a clueless shepherd to a reluctant lord to the Dragon Reborn and the slowly developing madness. The story is huge and has just about everything in it. It's a bit difficult to keep track of the 12million secondary characters (I'm exaggerating), but oh well. I've also read Lord of the Rings and I would have to rank WoT above it.

I know what you mean about the secondary characters...in the newest book I had to pause every once in a while and think of who the heck they were talking about...

I think that later books aren't as good as first ones, characters just seem to be running around and unimportant things happen while story doesn't move forward at all.... Knife of Dreams has one of the most rushed endings I've ever read and Rand seriously gets on my nerves, I continue reading this series for Mat and Perrin.

I'm reading #7 right now, but... I can't really get into it. I have to agree with lapaldan completely... Rand gets on my nerves quite a bit too, and... nothing's HAPPENING. Oy... But I'm sticking it out, hoping they'll get better.

At least we can give RJ one thing: he's thorough. @_@

The first 7 books of the series were unmatched in my opinion by naything anyone else had written, but from there onwards it has just been really poor. Too much detail of characters we may or may not need to know and just really slow in plot development.

I do like the Wheel of Time Series, but man is it ever expansive. It's been a while since I've read them (I stopped at Winter's Heart--that was the last one out at the time), and I've forgotten so terribly much. I'd need to reread them all to even begin the next book, and I don't have that kind of time.

They're definitely worth reading, though. One complaint of mine, though, is that Rand is havign his personality sucked out of his nostrels in the later books. Not to mention the women. GOD, the women. I think Egwene is the only one among the lot who doesn't have the SAME exact bitchy personality.

Sorry, Brigitte is all right. But that's about it. Once a woman gets hooked up with a man in Jordan's world, they throw their former personality out the window in favour of donning the mantle of Alpha Female complete with low necklines. *twitch*

Other than that, excellent series.

I remember starting to read these books about 6 years ago, and I've read the first 16 books 3 times now and the next two two times each, just to remember everything. And about the number of books; here in Sweden they've divided every book inte two books. If its to make them easier to read or to make a bigger profit I don't know, but thats how it is. Well, I've stopped reading them now, I don't even know if another book has been released now, since the first in the prologue of three were released.

i got up the the 8th book then i stopped because i didn't really enjoyed reading the series any more
