ANNOUNCING: ARETE

Arete! Meaning "virtue" or "excellence" in ancient Greek, and "getting stormy" in Japanese, Arete is a wallpaper designing competition which will focus on one Yoshitaka Amano scan. This competition will not simply be judged on pure aesthetic value, either; but on the three merits of art that SchattenRand focuses on: Artistic Merit, the deeper levels that can be read into the piece; Technical Skill, the amount of skill, and, more importantly, moderation of skill used to create the piece; along with the Aesthetic Value, which is, of course, self-explanatory.

Selection of the scan will be a group effort partaken by all members of the competition. Nominations will be accepted until a certain date, after which voting will take place.

Beginning date is currently unknown, currently aiming at sometime in December, though a lot depends on kuroimisa's TREC's dates. (Check that out, too.) PM me if you're at all interested in joining.

And wherein, then, lies your virtue?

Errr. Do I still have to PM you, or is it self explanatory that I'm at home doing nothing, growing old, fat etc. with Photoshop open 24 7?

I'll give it a try if I can... @_@ I'll need more details on time and stuff... Also, if I disappear for an extended period, that will probably end up being a no... Because I'm getting cutting-off-Net threats from my parents... =(

Alright, then, December 1st? Today's the 14th... Hm. I want to give the entire nominations/voting process at least a full week, so, even if we started today, that'd only give Arete about a week before TREC.

So, if TREC doesn't become indefinitely postponed, then Arete'll probably take place afterwards, which means.... how long, exactly?

Nomination and voting for Arete, however, will most likely take place in early December, no matter when the actual competition takes place. Most likely, though it could change.

I'm going to put both of you on the list for now, if things come up later, just tell me.

Hello Omni... ARETE definitely sounds interesting... but I fear it will fall into a place when I cannot do any wallpapers... I will be gone for some time at the beginning of January and 2 or 3 weeks in February... so I cannot tell you anything until I know more about when the ARETE is going to take place. I am always busy with uni and stuff... but that's not that much of a problem. But if it falls into the time where I am not at home but in the Netherlands... then I can't do anything time consuming...

I find the idea that the whole competition will focus on one Amano scan most interesting! It will be exciting to see, even if I cannot take part... how all the participants made something different of one scan... that's definitely a good idea... so hopefully you can give more details about the date soon!

Well I suppose you already know the dates on when Arete will start.
