At the time when Snes was popular, a lot of game developers made rpg games.
That's because it was hard to make a shooter with that system and easy to make
an rpg on it.
Now, its totally different.
Everywhere, ppl love to play shooters. There are also a lot of ppl that love
rpg's, but now days, a lot of great rpg's could have been made.
Do you guys think that rpg's are just being ignored?
I agree and I think its thanks to the new gamers. There is lots of promotion for
games like Halo 2 and Gran Theft Auto. Which makes new gamers buy those and
ignore rpgs. The creators give what the consumers want and all the effort looks
like its going to shooter or racing games. Since those have quality now all
gamers are buying those instead of rpgs. Or at least this is what I think. Maybe
its just me O.o
I agree that the advance in gaming tech. has made console gaming a less rpg
friendly market, and I agree that games that couldn't shine on earlier platforms
are getting bigger. It also seems that rps have become more of an online genre
than a console genre due to the multitude of games freely available, and due to
people's desire to play these types of games with others in the style of mmorps.
That having been said... I miss the wide variety of console rps.... T-T
Currently The world of RPGs is dominated by MMORPGs because what u guys
considered RPGs back in snes days were simple linear game play story lines. Now
the "rpgs" such as ff x-2 are often called "movies" than
rpgs. MMOs are diminating because it allows greater flexibity with your
character and you get to play with alot of your friends. FPS are out there but
they get boring fast and after u played CS for like 3-5 years games like FEAR
(being cool and all) dont really attract to play online anymore. Currently i
believe MMOs are the games of the future. Also there is alot of controversy
revolving the purchase and sale of online property. There will always be bots,
people who sell game money for real money and the guys with all the power will
do nothing because they are being paid.
People seem to enjoy playing online, so MMORPGs are going to continue being put
out while regular RPGs, though there are some coming out, aren't coming out as
much.
Right about the movie rpg like ffx 2.. but i also like mmorpg's, but the flaw in
that is you have to buy the game first, than, you need to pay (Every Month) to
play... :S:S
I like RPGs but I am pretty picky about it. If the script and story is bad..then
I will probably never finish the game. I perfer RPG made in Asia (Japan or
Taiwan) way more than the North American ones
I think in North America, there are less gamers that perfer RPG now. I think the
appearance of XBOX emphaized this fact.
I think other types of games are being made more because there are more
different types of people who play video games now. As more people start playing
games, there is a bigger market for less complex and more social games. Games
used to be limited to a smaller, more "hardcore" audience, but now
there is more mass appeal and so more games are made to appeal to more casual
gamers.
It is all about the money. People will spend money every year on Madden, the
newest sports games, countless racing games, and all of the FPS. It is what a
majority of people will buy and RPG's are usually limited to the hardcore
gamer.
I wholeheartedly agree that I wish there was more, and most of the ones that
come out aren't that great. We can only hope there will be groups that continue
to appeal to the hardcore gamers.
