over the last few days people of lebanese origin and of anglo saxon origin have
been rioting in sydney's south east and south west. aka fighting each
other...
all manner of people have come to condem it. but why did it happen? if i can
find it ill post a pic of the lakemba mosk last night... there were 1000's of
people around it, since they heard that a bikie gang was gona attack
it.
also today i heard on channel ten news a comment that this was a symptom of a
wider devide...that some muslims dont feel like they belong to eighter australia
or the muslim community. similar to what was said about the french rioters...
-what do u think about the riots and why?who is to blame, if any one?
-what you heard about the riots from tv n news?
has it affected ur opinion of australia?
do u think were racist?
I've been studying current events in history and our teacher did mention it.
It's really stupid to me. I mean why should everyone attack everyone else? But I
don't know the details though...
I heard that it was a build up over the last 5 or 6 years that just boiled over
on the weekend (apparently fueled by the bashings of two lifeguards by middle
eastern men).
The news said, a drive by shooting on the police station, rapes of women,
disrespect of law and order by some men of middle eastern backgrounds was also
to blame, as the public is frustraited by the lack of police action.
However the mob was chasing anyone who was of middle eastern origin and thus
totally racist and wrong.
I'd say 'spotfires' will breakout all over crenulla in a tit for tat fashion
until someone gets killed or serously injured, where then all hell will break
loose.
Blame can not be assigned by anyone on this forum; it is an issue spanning many
years and only someone from either side could give an answer however bias it
would be. I feel uninformed about this issue, as I have had to chase
information, (via Tv, internet) but that would be because I dont live in
sydney?
I always have a soft spot for vigilanties that want to see justice done, but I
condemn racism because it harms innocent people. I live in Australia and it
makes me unhappy to see hate and violence in what is normally a peaceful country
in respect to mass violence.
I agree with waterguardian, everyone is racist in some form no matter how much
one thinks they are not.
For those playing at home.. I'm anglo saxon, but do not side with race riots.
I think it's really sad to see all this rioting going on the moment as I believe
that we should treat others as we ourselves would like to be treated by them so
I really dislike violence. As to who is to blame, I think something like this
has been building up for quite a while and is due to a lot of factors so you
can't really point the finger at one particular person... Every country has its
problems and racism is something that I don't believe will ever be totally wiped
out no matter how much we would like to be...
Sadly, this action by a both the minorities of Australians and those from the
Middle-East living in Sydney has sullied the names of both parties. I have yet
to meet anyone in Australia who would be racist enough to attack anyone, and I
lived not far from the riots for a couple of years during school and as a child.
Really, this just ruins our international reputation.
it is sad how the anglos are rioting, why not just have one gang on another, but
they are destroying white people property (cars and houses etc) they are on the
same level as that lebanese gang who tried to take the beach and bash up a 15y/o
lifesaver
-slightly off topic, but a friends gang from the blue mountains is coming down
with 30 cars all armed with machetes and baseball bats (aussies)
im from sydney btw, but its happening in the other side(im north west sydney) so
yeah i watch news for it.
being muslim i tend to support people like my self. well its only human
but id like to see some real solutions to the problems. some of the rioters(arab and whites)
have legit problems and those problems need to be solved. and naturally some
gangs just want to fight.
Well I live in Sydney and I think that Bisuketto has said it perfectly. All I
can add is that he is very up to date with his history and facts and I agree
with the sentiment.
Hey pepeo ... let's just refuse to go to war with each other and leave it as a
very small group huh ? Meanwhile, we all talk about it and fix problems.
Aha, this topic. I live in perth, its all over the media. Its disgusting.
Lotsa people are getting racially abused in the opposite side of aus coz of what
is happening in sydney. This wouldnt happen so much if the media stopped taking
sides. I think both sides should leave each other alone and let the police
handle it. Otherwise things are gonna get a lot worse.
I mean there are people on tele who are so racist and seem so proud! I am not
gonna say my full opinion coz u might all think i am being racist.
Quote by pepeorevontulet which side do u
think the media is taking?
Taking the aussie side. They always have the australians looking like victims.
There offcaorse is some coverage of how it is effecting the innocent middle
eastern people, but basically more air time has been given to australians
(white) and there view of how the lebanese deserve it and "My car has been
smashed. These days people who come to australia have no respect". Yep well
thats what i have noticed.
You will probably find that a majority of those involved are simply violent by
nature. On the whole, the Australian community is laid back. We're very easy
going, which is why we have such a huge variety of people. However there are
simply those in the midest of us who are aggressive, who are incapable of
turning the cheek or anything of the sort and will lash out at the slightest
touch. The riots have been massively exaggerated in terms of racism and overall
hate. Sure, there is the minority which fit the description, but it's not all of
Sydney in the mix, simply a few of those who can't accept the other. It's
unavoidable living with so many types of people, racism is simply a fact that we
have to accept. It's just sad some people don't understand that rioting won't
make things any easier.
This is either very cool or scary. For those living in Sydney, you know that
Maroubra is one of the affected areas (100 cars smashed in one night). Well, I
live in the area and just next to the police station. This afternoon, squads of
police cars and vans are parked virtually in every space around the station,
making it look like they are preparing for some sort of full-scale war.
I have always been feeling detached from all these happenings but to see this
just out of the window makes me think twice about my own safety/peace...
On the whole it has all taken place in one small area. All the White
Supremasists came out of the woodwork and the movement has been hammered by the
police and the vast, vast majority of Australians think that the whole affair is
disgusting. We are all insulted of cousre that the violence is been done under
the Australian flag and feel that they have no right to use it.

I don't know much about the events in autralia but they surely are linked with France.
the revolution is here!
uhhhhhhhhhh......i dont know! but i guess that it dowsnt matter how nice and kind we are all a little racist right?

A truly disgraceful show of "australian-ness" indeed.

griffin
before we can solve em, we need to know what they are first. so does any1 know what the problems are?
