What are your (or your classmate's) thoughts about Physical Education in school,
its teachers, and its rules?
In school today (and basically every Wednesday), many people were complaining
about the Phys Ed teachers in our schools and how they made us run outside in
temperatures around 35 degrees (the rule in our school says that we don't run
outside below 40 degrees). Even during other days, people complain because of
the stern rules Phys Ed teachers enforce. They act like Phys Ed is more
important than any other class in our school. There has even been articles in my
school newspaper that complained about the teachers. In general, many of us joke
about how Phys Ed teachers (who are seen as dumb) went to "Gym Teacher
School" to do what they do now.
for gym i had swimming, so i dotn know about polar bear classes ( gym that are
outside), i hate them because those teachers are mean! Also i prefer sticking to
the water, where the temp. changes to fit the class or the conditions for the
swimming team! also swimming teachers are more lay back and nice to you!
my PE coach kept telling me "get your hands out of your pockets!". . .
i'll put my hands in my pockets when i goddamn well please
lets see, what else did that ass do. . . on rainy days when we couldnt run
outside, we ran inside the gym--we shot baskets, and for every one that bounced
off the rim, we had to run to the end of the court and back twice---for every
shot that completely missed, we had to run 4 times---i almost collapsed during
one of these
we attempted a mutiny one day, lol. . . the next day wasnt too pleasant needless
to say
Eh... well, I've never really been a fan of PE. It has never been one of my
strong sides.
My last (I don't have PE now) PE teacher was..., I guess you could call him
fairly nice but at the same time he was quite strict and forceful. The things he
told us to do, I never really liked and he always pushed too hard. Knowing me, I
couldn't care less what he said and did things in my own pace and showed quite
openly what I thought of PE. This, of course, resulted in me getting quite a low
grade in PE (although I did pass it) but I couldn't care less about that either
since I didn't need that grade to apply to university. To sum it up; never liked
PE, never liked the teacher. The
teacher before that one, though, was great. I really liked PE during that time
when I had him as my teacher. ^^
hm, PE's fine for me. i had a great teacher, who always told us the
expectations, and if someone was putting effort into their play and to apply
technique and stuff, she would notice. at least, she did when i tried. i ended
up with a 96% in that class, which i am quite satisfied with ^_^
i think that as long as the teacher's expectations are within reason, it's ok.
but it sounds like you guyz have such extreme expectations.
We don't do sports that much. We dance. We dance every meeting. It's good for
other people but not with me. Well, I don't like sports so what difference will
it make?
Stupid dances... We dance samba this week, then salsa the next week, then a
Japanese parasol dance, then tango, cha-cha, and rumba and so many more. It's
annoying...
In my first years of HS I hated PE and swore that I would never take it again
but then when there were no classes I was interested in at the time I signed up
for three PE related classes...talking about contradiction but they were fun
until I sprained my ankle for the third time then it was all pain and sickness
because of the pain and well that kind of crap is never fun PFT!
well you have to consider that phys ed is some kind of "preparing you a
little bit for the army"-thingy or "trying to figure out who's a
champion to either go for higher challanges in sport or ... for the
army"-thingy ... now in former times of warfare where almost everyone was
needed to go to the front this might have been important, but nowdays it's to
keep people fit, at least that's what they say.
there are a few reasons why phys ed teachers handle it that way:
1. if you do sport, you have to do it right, else you will feel unmotivated, it
wont be of any good to you and people go all whiny and stuff "ohh buhu i
cant handle a little bit of enforced physical effort"
2. it's sport, competition, ready to take the challange all the time and if it's
not against another person than it's against your own stubborness, unwillingness
and lazyness.
3. when you go outside and it's cold, you BETTER be running i tell you that.
4. phys ed teachers have to have the authority, nobody is going to take a
teacher serious if the teacher himself cannot take his subject serious.
5. ... and that's a very important fact ... phys ed teachers are a LITTLE bit
... lets say ignorant in a way of not knowing that much about other things
besides their subject when it comes to school ... i dont know how it is where
you live, but most of the times phys ed is something you choose as a becoming
teacher if you are not good in any other subject OR you need to fill in another
subject to be accepted as a teacher. the teachers in the second case are normaly
more relaxed ... but the others tend to be hard and as i said ... there is
nothing more important than keeping the authority when you have to deal with a
huge group of little whiny always complaining kids. i think it's only
logical.
to sum it up: if you really do sports, a strict phys ed teacher is VERY
important, i know that from my own experience ... but if you dont then do a few
jumping jacks and stop complaining, it wont hurt you even if you're fat and lazy
... and again, i know that (being fat and lazy) from my own experience ... so
give it a try even if it seems unfair, you'll see how proud you'll be of
yourself because you had the guts to go out there and run in the cold.
At the beginning of my freshmen year of HS I took a PE class and it sucked I
hated it. The teachers were harsh and would make us run in a cold ass
weather......especially the type of climate we have around our state at the
winter....after that experience I didn't take PE anymore....But for the
rules.....it was straightfoward do this and you get an A like participate and
such and such...try and beat your old record on the mile....blah blah.........
Hm...I rather like Phys Ed. I like the sports we do and it's certainly a better
change than sitting around pretending to listen to math teachers. Our teachers
dont' make us run outside and the only thing I don't like about gym is the fact
that we have to wear a uniform.
yeahh..it doesnt seem too hard to become a gym teacher
well, it's true that they have to be able to teach health, but other than that,
it doesnt take much effort to become a gym teacher

Lucky me that our teachers are nice and take no risk that we could get ill!
But I would hate that sort of coach, too!
