Lamentations

Ok, gang. I guess I didn't communicate my thoughts very clearly on my last post, "Perfect People". For that I'm sorry. What I was meaning to rant about are basically trends. the only reason that everyone likes them is becuase everyone else likes them. I'll give a couple examples. The i-pod. I'm not dissing the product or anything but, my friend went to go buy an mp3 player at our local electronics store. Naturally there were several different brands to choose from. There was a sony one there that held 10 GB and was 170 bucks. but he wanted to buy the ipod that held 5 GB for 200. Just becuase it was popular. And those bracelets that seem to be the big thing. the Livestrong ones? Again, nothing wrong with that. I support groups that research and try to find the cure for cancer. Also the Pink Breast cancer ones. But now i can go into walmart and find knockoffs in a five pack for 6 bucks that don't support anything at all. they're just the "trendy" thing. And for those magnetic ribbon bumper stickers. The ones I usually see are the Breast cancer ones and the support our troops ones. And I support both. but this one little question has been nagging at me. the money that's made off of the breast cancer ones goes to the cancer research foundation right? I dont' know for sure, but it seems to me like it would. But where does the money go for the ones that support our troops? Into the pockets of the manufacturers. Ok, I'm done ranting for now. Post replies as you feel like doing so. Thanks.

i don't like to follow trends because i can afford it...i don't even have a cd player...trend go away after a while and a new one replace it...

If what you like happens to be the trend of the day, then I don't mind, but if you like it for the mere reason that everyone else does, well... I don't like that. Throughout my life I've done things the way I like it, and have not bothered to follow the trend. There may have been trends that may have affected me in a subliminal way. I'm still only human, we all are, and whether we like it or not, we do get affected by our surroundings, otherwise why would there be commercials. They affect us so much more than we think they do, and they all do it sub-consciously, against our wills.

Anti-trend is yet another trend

Well I like things because I like them. I agree with the anti-trend thing being yet another trend. Sometimes it's just tough to resist influences.

Not quite sure if I agree with Anti-Trend being another trend. I consider myself anti-trend because that's how I feel, not other people being anti-trend as well.

Thats so true.

Its like the old new saying goes.

If u are trying to be different for differents sack then are u not just the same as every1 else trying to be normal.

Just try not to think about things like this... It will rot ur mind...
If u just live life then u shd turn out ok...

Right, But I'm not doing it to be different, It's just that a lot of the trends nowadays are pointless. They're the "in" thing just becuase everybody likes it. Like the i-pod example above. There are better things out there or that fit your needs better, but people choose the more popular one, just because it's popular.

Trend is also a way to show you belong to a community or you have at least something in common.

I don't really follow trends... I guess I'm too pragmatic for that. Some may be nice, but well I guess everyone do what they want and what is a trend is actually followed but an important number of people but a minority if we consider population as a whole.

Since it doesn't interest you, I don't know why you seem to care. Just think about things that matter to you.

Never follow trends unless they benefit you and those you care most about. And as long as they don't cost you an arm or a leg. Otherwise what's the point?
