Alrite, recently my windows X P (<--dam emotion) Home edition got corrupted
or something, so i'm unable to start windows up. I don't want to reformat, as
that will erase all my files... so is there any other solutions that i can use?
I knoe it has something to do with the registry.....it hink..
tiki he/she is probably posting from a different machine, silly :P
Have you tried booting up in safe mode? If you are unable to do that even then
things are quite bad...
You can most likely recover your files if you put your hard drive in another PC
as a second hard drive, and copy your files over. It sounds like you're not very
technically minded so I recommend finding a friend who can help you out and
knows what they are doing.
actually Shujaa that may not be the case. The hard disk is where the computer
stores the operating system <--corrupt in your case. I think the safe boot
mode is a better bet, but as long as you don't mount the drive i guess the
physical transfer of the hard disk is ok. Also you have to be careful with a
hard drive. the writing needles are suspended only a millimeter or less from the
actual drive plate.
Well you can boot with Knoppix (or some other linux live cd) to backup your
files to another hdd, DVD, CD... Even you can setup an Ftp and get the files if
you have two computers with net. PM if you like and I will answer as soon as I
can.
Quote by IzzoYeah, back up all your stuff
onto something else, format, then re-install the
OS.
Before doing this all. Go buy a new copy of Windows XP. Just in case it happens
again. If this does not solve the problem. I recommend you selling your computer
and buy you a better one instead.
I think you can also choose the reinstall option to get a semi-fresh copy of
Windows installed without a format. Then, use this to retrieve your data, then
do a complete reinstall.
Hmmmm, i've already tried the safe mode....didn't work.. so how do i transfer
the files? Waht about the windows CD, will that help and its repair
option?
If i move the hard drive, won't data be lost? (i just heard from somewhere that
was the case, *not sure)
and Knoppix?
Yeh liek you guys said, i just want to get my files out of there....then
reformat, but my problem is actually moving the files out... and again thanks
for the help.
I've had this happen quite often cuz my old mobo was dyin on me
if you can, remove yer hard drive n stick it on a friends comp or somethin n
back up that way, removing yer hd won't do anything to the data unless you drop
or shock it, that should work
somewierd guy's advice is good too, you should be able to reinstall the os
without losing data, as long as you dun format anything or do any
partitions
i always formatted with whatever was on there whenever that happened to me, i
kept anything important on a second hd, which you should do too if you run into
this prob often
As for preventing it, either yer mobo is bad, or you move yer comp a lot (lan
parties?), if it's the latter, remove yer hd when you move it
Ummn, it seems you are rather inexperienced when it comes to this stuff. So, it
might be better to get a friend to do it for you, that might be the best help
anyone can give you.
You may try repairing it with the OS CD, just press the "R" key
to enter the repair console. Once you enter, type in "Help" to see
all
the commands.
If you setup a password for your account, then all of your files
inside the following folders: My Documents, My Music, and My Videos, will not
be
accessible. When you take that drive, and install it to another computer. Unless
you did not , set to private mode, when you created your password or you could
change the permission inside the Advanced Security Policy console.

PC, take the HDD out of the other and put it into this one then backup all the
important stuff.
Yep that looks like the best way to go...especially since your computer cannot
even start in safe mode. Best thing is to reformat the whole comp. THen checked
it before putting your stuff back. It could be your disc with the problem
You can install the OS from you system CD . Remeber , don't format any paration
. But , if you do like this , the %windir% dirctory will be reinstall , just
like erase it first and then write it with the system CD content . You'd better
gather your hardware drivers at first .
Thanks to everyone about the tips and suggestions, for now i'm just gonna wait a
while and try to get a windows XP HE CD....hmmmmm again thanks for the help, i'm
still open to suggestions and etc tho...soo yeh. I'm kinda limited at what i
have right now...to transfer that is.

If your PC is broken then how can you post on MT?
also it would help if you be more specific, let's say
post that error message if you have one.

Ever tought about holding F8 at boot and load windows in safe mode?
