A lot of people(usually the old, traditional type of people) are saying that the
internet is now used more as a place where people find arguments about the
strangest or useless things or some sites having some articles/forums about
almost anything under the sun. They now blame the internet for their for making
children learn words that are not meant for them to well......... learn like
profanities, or sexual languages. So what do you think? Should the freedom of
speech in the internet should be limited?
well, technically, no. it's in our bill of rights, first amendment, that it's
our right to freedom of speech as well as other things, but, the protection goes
to a certain point. people use freedom of speech as an excuse to say racial
slurs, bigoted things about minorities, etc. so the freedom of speech goes to
some extent, but once it actually becomes insults with no basis (as long as you
have a concise, thoughtful argument against understandable things like the
president, his administration, or the oscars, i think that's able to be
considered freedom of speech) against people of certain races and the like, it's
just wrong, but that's why we have moderators, no?
if those parents are so concern about their kids learning bad stuff on the
internet, simply limit places where they can go or dont let them use the net
=]

dude, screw the bill of rights, no one give a ****, just like everything else if
people start to regulate everything you do. then i'll go join an illegal faction
to fight against them. a basic rule set to follow is good. just like you said.
that's why we have moderators, cops, etc etc...but if they think it's their
right to restrict even something as free as the internet, then one day we'll
find we have to start paying for the air we breathe just to line the pockets of
some dipshit who thinks he has the right to it. i don't like the fact that the
us government is trying to fiddle around with google's search engine and trying
to find out what people are searching for and i don't like my searches
restricted by some asswipe who i don't even know, thinking he knows what's good
for me. like someone mentioned earlier. kids are getting corrupted anyway,
parents and cops and moderators and what-not are there to help regulate the
corruption but even that can do only so much.
what will be learnt eventually will be learnt, censorship is only a temporary
illusional solution, it never works...heck, I tried that, guess what, my cousin
discovered the pleasures of watching porn at 12 years of age.
They always say what gave the child to do such thing is because the
environmental that the child have. If his dad does this, there are more chances
that he will also do this. If his mom does that, there are more chances that he
will do that. Dont blame the internet because the words are from people who
somehow I call better lose the brain then use it for no brain. They say those
words but hey, those words were actually some scientific and some, well
originaly that is just a word where you can find in the dictionary. Just that
human made it sound wrong.
But I thought those kind of humans are worth having the freedom of speech
because screw them if they want to use any language or any words, or posting
porn, or maybe violating his own country. All we can do is pull ourself away
from them. The internet could be harmless if we do pull ourself. But if we push
harder, we might end up in the world of better lose brain than use ot for no
brain.
Limiting freedom of speech in any medium is wrong. You have the right to say
anything at anytime to anyone. Just remember that with that freedom come the
fact that you have to take responsibility for what you say.
well it's funny tho because if people don't want to learn "bad words"
they just don't need to visit sites with "bad contents". the site will
automaticaly get less users and will eventually have to be taken offline. but as
it seems a lot of people WANT to have access to sites where they can get away
with using profanities and stuff like that.
so you could say that it's not the site's fault for people being influenced
wrong but the people's because they don't stay away from such sites etc. blah
blah ... i think that limithing the freedom of speech makes only sense if people
are holding hate-speeches or trying to get people to do things that are against
the rules of modern society and so on, in this case limitin the freedom of
speech would be nothing else than saying "oh just shut up will ya?"
... nobody wants to listen to an old communist rambling about old russia or
germans who talk nazi-propaganda or presidents who don't know how to hold a book
right ... right?
well you get the point. but i think that forums should care more about their
user's behavoir because it is still something people identify with, i wouldnt
want to have a forum where everyone is talking about nonsense while most of the
posts consist of offensive flaming ... at least that's my opinion. of course
regulations make a forum more unpopular but it's the image that counts
imo.
well that's all. (and btw. old people don't know what they are talking about)
censorship works within a site, like MT, cos we have moderators. this doesn't
apply to other sites however, that's why censoring the internet never works.
like in china, surfers could just get around the censorship, using like adding
space between banned words.
You can't say that every country has freedom of speech. The Bill of Rights only
applies in the United States. It's up to the country to determine what domains
in their country are capable of allowing.
Some of it should be limited. Y'know those flash movies which start with
something peaceful, then a face comes out of nowhere and shocks you half to
death? That could cause a problem with, say, the elderly. That should be
limited.
I like how people see kids learning "sexual language" disturbing. It's
educational. It helps them more than anything. Yet society...

Well it is worng for sure. There is allways going to be some faction that wants to tell you how to talk, or think.
I realy don't think it is, or will ever be possable tho.

its their own fault not doing anything about it
Sure, totally nothing to do with our parents swearing every time somebody cuts them off while their driving, or swaring about how bad their day was.
cant keep kids from becoming corrupted, it'll happen eventually, why are they fighting the process...

the internet isn't to blame, it's the way people are raised. kids learn sexual innuendos in middle school and high school. parents can't stop that.
Some of it should be limited. Y'know those flash movies which start with something peaceful, then a face comes out of nowhere and shocks you half to death? That could cause a problem with, say, the elderly. That should be limited.
