I am a highschool graduating student. And students like me always wanted to step
into a university and finish a course. But in our time nowadays, not all
highschool graduates can go to college, so they rely on scholarship programs or
assistance programs.
There was this old man at school who was campaigning for students assistance
program of a company which was alien to us. He began to persuade us, giving us
the assurance of ten thousand pesos (philippine money...) every month if we are
able to pass the examination as an assistance. The examination is quite easy,
just making a brief essay about how you can help your parents to finish college.
Then, I realized, I passed. He said, their would be a brief orientation about
the program.
I was invited to his office, well not the kind of office that I expected. It was
only a small rented bamboo house, with one working table and two plastic chairs.
Then he oriented me, on how to go on sales talk. He said, I have to work for the
ten thousand pesos for my own college. He will let me sell his books and his
magazines and I am not satisfied. He said that his company was famous, but how
come I never heard of it nor seen their ads on the net? Plus the teachers in our
school just took him for granted?
I wanted to back out from this mess that I am in, but how? Please help me...
so he has a "famous company" and this "famous company's"
office is a rented bamboo shack..kinda suspicious, just tell him hes a liar, and
u dont want in on this, but if this guy is a gangsta, just do what u can not to
get him pissed, make up stuff like; say ur gonna study overseas, u recieved
large inheritance from a recent family member etc etc
Yes, this person looks very suspicious.
Did you tell your parent or know about this?
Did you ask other teachers about this "old man"?

And since you are 16 and female (according to your profile), then you are a
perfect target.
Probably the easiest way is to just stop whatever that is you are doing with
that person. And he if he still forces you to do, what that he tells you to do
or try to persuade you.
First tell your teachers and if that does not work call the
authorities.
And don't say "yes" "okay"
or "sure why not" because of pressure or by the power of
money
Yeah, back out and if the guy still forces you, notify your teacher, parents,
and/or authorities, like tiki223 said.
And back out as politely as possible, so not to get the guy angry. Tell him
something like, things did not go as you had expected and no longer wish to
continue with this program (or whatever).
Suspicious person...
Have you asked for more information on his company? the website, their sponsers
etc?
i'm sure you'd make the right choice about backing out on something that you
don't feel right about.
You can turn it down politely, saying it's not what you need or is looking for
right now.
If he presist, then tell him directly you don't feel right about this, and that
you don't want to work with unfamiliar programs.
Do not let him take advantage of you in any way. Be cautious and good luck.
Tell your parents and teachers about him, and the next time you see him, just
say "no" up front. If he persists, you may have to take legal measures
against him.
sounds like a scam. People who promise you money are usually after your
money.
A possible scenario would be that he gives you a quota that you need to pay
upfront, after which you must find a way to seel those books because you have
already payed them!
A famous overseas company would never rent a shack.
hit him in the nut and run! lol jk though seriously, you need to find someone, a
friend, your parents, or someone who knows a thing or two about stuff like
this.
Quote by sumimasensounds like a scam.

I totally agree...this is a scam. Try to look this company up on the internet,
or go to the principle of your school or something, but don't do what he's
saying until you understand everything that's going on.
...I'm not sure, but since he does sound suspicious... but try not to tell the
guy "no" and walk out, because he might stalk you, or something worse.
Why don't you tell your parents, or some people you think can help you resolve
the whole thing without too much publicity.
I've heard of similar stories like that, someone promises them to get paid and
go to another country later on. They never got anything. They stayed in this
night bar.
If you don't want it, say no. Don' let him talk you in to a corner. And if it
helps, talk to anothet teacher you can trust about it. Make sure to get your
opinion heard, because a lot of times, guys trying to sell something/make you do
something just talk right over you and don't really let you get a word in
edgeways.
Does sound fishy, and whatever you do don't say "u recieved large
inheritance from a recent family member etc etc" because that makes you
more of a target in addition to being a 16 year old girl.
Be careful, and remember that if you don't trust anybody, you'll never be
backstabbed. While I sure as hell don't live by that rule, I'm too trusting and
get backstabbed all to often so I know that rule to be true.
What I'd do is make sure somebody else knows about this, somebody you know you
can trust, because if things turn sour a witness is invaluable.
listen, your entering the real world, dont forget that. You have to make risky
decisions on your own now. and you have to be assertive to make sure that you
dont get screwed. make sure you handle this professionally and switfly. Dont let
people walk on you. however dont go too far either and be a total dick. just do
what is needed.
Respectfully claim that you no longer wish to pursue his assistance program
stating that you have another source of income... it's a scam, don't fool
yourself. By the way, how are you doing now, did you get out of the deal for the
assistance or is it really legit?

I think that you should deny his help. It really sounds suspicious as Schimke-san said.
Do what you think is right.

Just say no and say i want to find another way to earn my money, whats the worst he's gonna do yell at you.
