We all know about nationalism, right? Well, do you think that it's still
relevant in this days, where foreign products, which seem better and cool,
invade our country, and at some extend, try to demonstrate that that country is
a better place than ours? Or upon hearing about how much another country
progress forward in every aspect? When realising that somewhat it's true, do you
still feel proud of your country, whether how much it left behind another
countries or how bad your country's reputation out there?
Do you still love it, even when arriving at the point where you are willing to
die to defend it?
There's a difference between nationalism and patriotism. One is pride, the other
is bigotry. I don't think nationalism was ever relevant nor justified. It's hard
to believe that one country is ever better than another.
And I'll die to defend it. That's why I enlisted in the US Army.
I don't care about my birthplace. I want the same equality for everyone -
everywhere. I love the World, really. To me, England is only the place I was
born. (Thus the place where my family resides.)
Oh yeah? Then, what do you call it, if many of your country's valuable scholars,
choose to work abroad rather than work in their own country, and worse, refuse
to be called back to work in ...say... state company or to build their country,
just with lame excuse: "Why should I? I can get more money here!" I
say this, because in my country (Indonesia) there are a lot of cases like it?
As for Arinami, many of our people think like that... What is Indonesia compared
to the USA? It's like no more than flea to tiger, right?
And more, do you feel irritated if someone talks bad about your country?
It's unfortunate for people who think like that. There's a lot of countries that
are facing financial problems and are still developing. That doesn't mean that
they're lesser than anybody else, especially when such a huge part of America's
economy depends on them and their workers.
As time goes by, they'll get better.
And yep, I get pissy when people talk bad about my country. Mostly because they
don't know anything about it and what they're spewing out is a bunch of lies.
Nope, not at all. just the landscapes... My country is considered one of the
most corrupt countries in the whole world. People here can be really cool but
there are lots of thieves and children asking for money and selling bubblegum on
the street... God, that is such a harsh reality... Ecuador is far from the incan
paradise it was...
Do i love my country? No, do I think it's a decent country, yes, would i die to
defend it it depends on the war if it was a cause like korea, vietnam, or Iraq i
wouldn't. If it was a war that had true meaning i would fight, but only if i was
drafted. My country is corrupt, it has people who are ill informed and don't
even know who the vice president is, we have racisits, bigots, and crusaders.
But we have freedom of speech ( somewhat), press( somewhat ), and many more so
no as a selfish human being who dosen't want to die, personally i rather live in
Canada, Japan, France, or Denmark. but i still think my country is
okay.
I like my country for certain aspects, but I also dislike it for some of them.
The percent of unemployment is really big, plus the lousy and corrupted
government is pissing me off. That will propably be one of the reason for me to
leave this place for a few years, but not the only one. I'm the kind of person
that can't really live in one place 2 long and I feel good anywhere I go, so
I'll propably move around alot.
I used to. I thought the United States was a great country. Now I dispise it and
I know how pathetic it is (although I like it more than any other country).
Indeed it is. The USA depends on us for some resources. And I think (not only
me, though...), not to offend, they use their superiority to suppress us to give
some "special care" for their people and business here. If not? Well
then, good bye to our military training and upgrade. It seems that they
understand very well, that we need their help very much, and so, can't do
anything to stop them, if they "go too far" in my country internal
affair. I'm talking 'bout your country, Mr. Soldier...
And more, do you still love your country, even if you know that they're doing
wrong things?
I love my country and the people who lives here, I give a s**t if there are
corruption in the politics or if there's poverty, i know Mexico will be a better
place someday if all the mexicans work togheter. Of course i would go abroad if
i have the chance but is within this frontiers where i want to end my life, hope
many many years from now, and if im called ill come from wherever i am to fight
anyone if a foreing force steps on mexican soil whit belic intentions and to die
defending my people and what is only ours would be a great honor.
Do I love my country? Not really. I'm Canadian and not being a hockey fan or a
beer drinker, there's no real desire in me to have any sense of
nationalism
Yes things are more or less alright (technology, society and whatever) but I'm
no patriot and never will be...just doesn't seem to be any point...
Quote by Bumble-BeeIndeed it is. The

And more, do you still love your country, even if you know that they're doing
wrong things?
I'm a female, thank you.
And yes, I'd still love my country, even if they were doing wrong things. A
country doesn't do wrong things; a government does, and so can its people. Most
of the time, I see it as being misguided or going on a power trip. But a
government can be taken care of, and most people have some form of ADD and they
forget what they hell they're doing rather quickly. So then they just jump onto
the next fad.
Luckily these people aren't in the majority.
The first paragraph was a little unclear, but I do understand that America comes
off as being cocky/arrogant, especially its businessmen. And that's why they go
overseas, because our laws regarding enviromental issues and work ethnics
prevent them from being cocky over here.
The best any other country can do is up the ante on their laws in the same
field. China is getting there-- we've relied heavily on them for years, and with
the giant industrialization taking place in China, the Chinese government is
starting to take note of their country's pollution and terrible labor practices.
Now things are starting to change for the Chinese workers, for the
better.
I don't agree with the business practices going on in third world countries
because they're taking advantage of those people. But what can I do? Nothing.
Just wait for these countries to realize what power they have and start changing
and demanding more out of these businesses.
As you say, your businessman sometimes goes too far, exploiting our resources
without giving any contribution to people around it (well, if you read news, you
must know what happened to our brothers in far east...)
But unfortunately, not only the businessman, even the government (at least, two
of your senators do) does. They interfere so much in our internal problem, such
as disturbing my country's unity (happened in far east) and provoke to
disintegrate, with the same target as they do in Iraq (not to offend, but this
has become public secret here). Hmph... just when we're trying to maintain our
patriotism and nationalism, "they" are trying to break it...
I wish I had the names of the senators. Do you know who they are? The news never
really mentioned much about their little trip, but I wouldn't put it past some
of the politicians here.
America's nearly divided right now politically. Almost half agree with the war,
almost half are against it. Half like the current administration, half don't
like it.
Maybe they're trying to share the love? Or the half-love?
Sorry you have to deal with them. Tell them to scat. They have their own country
to worry about.
For me, there is no country good enough for liking it or loving it, too much.
My country has some of the greatest places in the world, but the people on it
does really sucks.
I think there could be a future for my country, but for the time being, I don't
really like my country.
I'm sorry, they're not senators, "only" representatives. Forget the
name, but I'm sure one of them is from US States "in Pacific". The one
I'll never forget is, he wants to help the disintegration, just because a
very-very stupid reason: because they share the same RACE! (if I'm not mistaken,
Melanesia) Does your government have another business to take care about, rather
than disturbing my country unity and brotherhood? Indonesians are not racists,
and I have so many friends from there! Just to know, your country's reputation
has become very ... Well, my sentences are enough to describe it, aren't it?
I do not know if the country i am in is worth defending for, but i know that i
am not a patriot. If i were to fight, i would fight for what i believe in and
not for the country. I do not feel proud of my country, the government are all
hipacrits. They all said they will help the country and swore to defend it. For
example, in the history of the US, the first president said that they will stay
neutral, but look at it today, they partisapated in this war in the west now.
Man kind will always have war no matter what, they will always fight. Whether
they want to fight or not, they will end up fighting so there is no way of
knowing if you will be fighting for such a country.
Yo!... I'm Canadian, and unlike Draken, I'm rather proud of my Country.... I
don't like hockey, either, and if I were to drink acohol I'd die--allegries!
I don't mean to brag, but we have freedom of speech, we can choose our own
government leaders and Canada is so multi-cultural
It does however have some draw backs, many of our athletes and doctors travel to
the south of Canada (ie USA), because Canada doesn't pay them well enough, which
is rather sad, and with Canada being the so mulitcultural country, that it is,
the country itself is starting to lose it's own culture...
Nevertheless! I support my country the best I can.
(buying things that are made in your country is one way to support it, you
know... meaning you don't have to go to war for it to mean you support it!)
and I think... no... I believe that if you ever want to make a Canadian cry a
river (inside or out) call us "American"...
~well we'll either cry or get really, really angry....
As you can see from other posts of mine ... I'm from Greece.
I am able to be proud for my country because I am "Native Greek" and I
know how much did the greek civilization extended other nation's culture. Just
think how many english words have greek root(/source) [Yes...
"Evangelion" is a greek word... it comes from Ev and angelion. Ev
meens good and Angelion meens message... so evangelion meens good
message(/message from god)] and how many stars have greek names...
MY ANCESTORS REACHED THE STARS ... and I'm proud of it.
Hm. I'm an Aussie and I must admit, I love my country - parts of it. But it's
inevitable: racisim, prejucidiced acts, exclusion etc. The weather's kinda dodgy
too =\ But overall, it's a nice place... ok, I've just totally lost my train of
thought. Um, politically, I don't know, I don't follow it very well. But yesss
:]

One country could seem better but as the old saying tells, there's no place like home.
Of course I wouldn't die to defend my country - I'm a human being, and selfish, and I don't want to die.
But in saying that, yes I do love my country (New Zealand). I'm certainly not what people would call patriotic, but I do like being here.
I love my country enough to try and change it before it falls to even more corruption. But I won't go fight for unjust causes either.
I don't care about my birthplace. I want the same equality for everyone - everywhere. I love the World, really. To me, England is only the place I was born. (Thus the place where my family resides.)
