:) Hi! I do live in germany right now, and the most comic books that will be sold in stores are Manga Comics. The Kids love Manga and it seems that western Comics have no chance against it. There are many young talented manga artists in germany right now and nearly all of them are female. My Professor (a woman) didn't like those artists, she says:
They are imitators, image tracers and they do waste their talents to something they never will become: Japanese. The manga style is a good trainig, but the result of a good work shall be as well a proof of individuality and personalty not just a proof of technical skills.

Another very chauvinistic answer to the question " Why are most of the german manga artists are female?" from a friend from france was:
Girls are better tracers, they do have more patience and accuracy. The heros they draw are mostly girls, there are many girls in the storys, it's about romance, beautiful gowns and oppulent hairstyles.
Most of this artists draw Yuri, they are not into androids, bikes and starships, because machines are boy things.

what do you think?

True that western manga aren't the best. It can't even be compare to the Japanese manga. There is more to just to manga than just drawing. Like you said, "...a proof of individuality and personality not just a proof of technical skills." The technical skill is to see if you can draw. But can you come up with something better than what it is now.

Your question on female becoming manga artist is quite wierd to me, (not saying that they can't draw) i mean men drawing manga for their taste in woman and woman should draw manga to their taste in men.

You have to see it the other way around. Its no longer about "Japanese Style" or "Western Style", because your drawing style will be influenced by either of them, its about having your own style, not just in drawing, but in telling stories; my style, for example, is simmilar to manga, but that's not because I want to be Japanese, thats because my style developed that way and i like it.

On the matter of girls drawing manga, that sounds sweet. In my country there are few people who draw, and most of them are men, so a woman who draws manga sounds really... sexy? dunno...

you don't need to make manga and you don't need to be japanese to be able to draw your own style ;). and i agree with Haohmaru that drawing styles are influenced by others. the koreans have made manhwa which is similar to manga yet still different. come to think of it, the japanese manga was probably influenced by the west. the earliest manga styles looked similar to disney's creations >.< . a lot of things will influence your drawing style as well as your stories. do not be afraid of criticism as it will always be there no matter what you do so just blow them off :D. you're always free to make drawing and writing your hobby but the way to success is a rough road..

i don't really trace but yes i'm also interested in romance and drama stories, clothing and hairstyles XD.

Japanese style and Western style no longer refers only to the drawing in itself. For example, when looking at the anime Teen Titans, it is clearly Western style attempting to recreate Japanese style art. But have they succeeded in completely capturing the Japanese style/essence? No.

Because of the UNIQUE background of the Japanese culture, it is possible to create those anime and manga works. While America also has a diverse and unique background and history, it is much different than Japan's, so I don't think they will ever be able to truly emulate the Japanese style. What is American will be American. It will never attain that Japanese "feel," unless perhaps the artist is extremely talented, has studied Japanese history and culture deeply, and worked 100% on capturing that feel. Similarly, American work has very unique and influential aspects too, if you look carefully enough.

don't forget korean style =3, although i'm very biased so i only stick with japanese style.. so no korean/chinese/western manga for me ^^
( and yes they have no chance in winning probably because of this bias too...... oh and drawing is different.... )

Oh man, how could I forget. I think the word is manwha or something? Korean manga is also awesome. I just feel kind of embarassed because I only have access to Tokyo Pop Korean manga >.>

Well, personally I am more interested in the originals but into western Manga, but it is good, that so many young woman in this country today are dreaming of becoming famous comic artists.
A huge part the Manga readers here are girls and what else can I say but GIRL POWER!... But Girls: Try to be be more yourself and try to step out of the fanart corner: design your own unique characters and write your own storys. Put your own world into it!
Each comic culture can learn from another- We live in a World of remixers and pimpers. But are you still intrested in the original?
Yes? So become an original yourself!

yes, japan has a unique culture and so does every other country in the world :). americans have a rich pop/urban culture, wild west concept etc.. europeans are rich in history, folklore like gothic cultures. asians have large varieties of beliefs and fantasies. it is very possible to attain that Japanese feel as it is to attain that western feel ^_^'. you don't need an extremely talented artist/s (those are for masterpiecesXD), only just one/s who can appreciate art and someone who lived in/ knows (well) Japan will do to get that feel. everything is unique in its way and is alike others in at least a way. yes, america as well as other countries' works have many aspects that influenced japan(they planned their own westernization >.<). i'm just saying that you shouldn't limit yourself to what you are ;).
