atog's topic gave me this idea: Do you have a favorite book you wish was made into an anime? Let's hear it!

Personally, I would dearly love to see "Sabriel" by Garth Nix made into a feature-length animated movie, in the tradition of Vampire Hunter D. :longing:

Hmm... I would like to see an anuime based on Magic The Gathering's The Brothers War Saga. I would pay a lot to see brothers Urza and Mishra in animated action, their clockwork soldiers tearing each other into scrap, ornithopters bombing dragon engines...

Anyway, it's another pure fantasy anime, kinda like El-hazard.

That series sounds interesting, Bread - I'll look it up. You reminded me....RA Salvatore's Forgotten Realms series would make another good fantasy anime. (Dritz! :D) I'd love to see the fluid, deadly grace of dark elves in action.

I'd love to see John Peel's 'The Secret of Dragonhome' & 'Diadem' series become animes. They'd be full of action, roamnce and magic.

The Wheel Of Time Saga by Robert Jordan, there's so much scope and invention in this series, it'd be perfect for a fantasy anime.

On a (sorta) related note, the best album (musical) to put to anime would be The Metal Opera Parts 1 & 2 by Avantasia.

the novels for the "torg" roleplaying game would be awesome as an anime

I would have to say, all the books by Raymond E. Feist except Faerie Tale.

if i say that i would like to see all the book i have read realise into an anime ! but particularly : "ombramère" by pierre saviste, the trilogy of philip pullman and the 2 last books of mark lévy "sept jour pour une éternité" & "la prochaine fois" ^^

Well, since I love fantasy, I'd like to see the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett (I think it would be a better comedy than Slayers) or maybe the Earthsea tetralogy by U.K. LeGuin (a stylish fantasy anime).
As far as science-fiction is concerned my first choice would be Stanislaw Lem with 'The Cyberiad' or 'Tales of Pirx the Pilot.'
Anyway there are more books that would make a great anime, but I'm just too lazy to write this down now. :)

Wow, I clicked on thsi thread with the intention of saying "Shade's Children" by Garth Nix! Never read "Sabriel" though, but it seemed cool. My younger brother read it when it was published and commented that it sounded like an idea for an anime!

What a coincidence! Glad to meet another person who likes Garth Nix. "Shade's Children" *would* make for a good, dark, futuristic anime. I should read it again - I read it too quickly years ago, and should absorb more details this time.

catherine fishers fantasy triology: the snow walkers son

Snow Crash, by Neal Stephenson. Hiro Protagonist, YT, Uncle Enzo...it's all so perfect for an anime.

The "Tales of the Otori" could make a nice anime, I believe, but the books I would definately want to see animated are the books of the Farseer Trilogy. Siply, wonderful...

Yakitate!! Japan would make a great anime. that manga is just hilarious.. :)

I think that any of the David Drake "Slammers" book would make outstanding anime stories.

Yeah! I was going to suggest Snow Crash myself. It's got a wide cast of fascinating, sexy, likeable characters, a plot thick with action & intrigue, and mysterious philosophic weirdness. It's even got a cute animal! As I recall, Stephenson originally developed the story for a digital comic book, and even wrote a lot of code for that project, but when that fell through he turned it into a novel.

Quote: Ng blows out more smoke, thinking. "As we learned in Vietnam, high-powered weapons are so sensorily overwhelming that they are similar to psychoactive drugs. Like LSD, which can convince people they can fly -- causing them to jump out of windows -- weapons can make people overconfident. Skewing their tactical judgement. As in the case of Fisheye."
"I'll be sure to remember that," Hiro says.
"What kind of combat environment do you want to use Reason in?" Ng says.
"I need to take over an aircraft carrier tomorrow morning."

hmm, maybe the green mile (maybe different characters though but theoriginal story as pillar for it) and Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy :D

Most good fantasy novels would do great animes, i think. Tad Williams or Robin Hob's books.

Elric cycle from Michael Moorcock!!!

The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.
In the Forest of the Night, Demon in My View, Shattered Mirror, and Midnight Preditor by Amelia At-water Rhodes.

A series of OVAs based off of the poems of Edgar Allen Poe! Those would just be way too freaky....
