Im a german student in 12th grade and recently we got to choose a subject for an essay in religion class about religious groups and movements. Because i think this kind of stuff is pretty boring i thought why not make an essay about "intelligent design", which was introduced to me by the news and this forum. As asked if i can choose intelligent design as my subject, i realized that noone in my class including the teacher was awere of the intelligent design, which is a good thing because i dont have to write about stuff that everybody allready knows anyway.
So if you could post links and quotes about intelligent design that are focused on ID as a movement or a reigious group, it would help me a lot.
Of course they can be in english.
Thx.

intelligent design on Religion? Hmmm... Im learning about Product Design, so i cant really help. You're... not writing about cults are you?! GOD I HATE THOSE! especially Falun Gong, the monsters... Lets just say my moms cousin is mad in the head because of them. With their morning and night prayers, chi gong as a ritual "holy follower sh*t excercise", and sending letters to any place where there is Chinese people. They're worse than Mormans...

This might help:

Personally, I think the whole idea is just Bible-Creationnism in disguise and junk anyway. But that's just me. :D

Intellegent design is a new wave in the Fundamentalist Christian Movement. It is almost entirely American, where the movement originated. The basic idea is that God created the world in 7 days, the planet is only a few thousand years old, and there is no such thing as evolution.
I recomend trying to find the book: Of Pandas and People: The Central Question of Biological Origins by Percival Davis & Dean H. Kenyon. This is the most well know book on the subject, and may soon be a textbook in some schools in the US [GOD help us all, in Biology class].
Also Intelligent Design: The Bridge Between Science & Theology by William A. Dembski. Amazon.com has the first several pages and index posted on their US site.
By the way, Dinosaurs Unleashed : The True Story About Dinosaurs and Humans by Kyle Butt explains how humans and dinosaurs co-existed and the "evidence" to prove it.
At least looking for more information about these books on the web may lead you to some more informative websites.

By the way, if you arn't completely afraid of American Christians by the time you are through writing your paper, then you are braver than me. But at least you don't have to live with them!

It's true that Intelligent Design is related to Biblical Christianiaty and Creationism, but I don't see what's wrong with that. It's just as logical as evolution, if one isn't afraid to admit that there's a higher power (God) in charge of/behind everything.

I've actually read segments of the book Of Pandas and People: The Central Question of Biological Origins, and I liked it (queenyokai recommended it).

If you're interested, http://www.origins.org is another good resource (though a website, not a book) for learning about Intelligent Design and other scientific issues.

And just for the record, not all American Christians are scary or illogical; just as in every other kind of group, you get radicals who take things too far and can be considered scary. Not every Christian is a Bible thumper or a hellfire-and-brimstone type preacher, and another thing to consider is that not every person who claims to be a Christian is really regenerate and born again. Just a little disclaimer-ish note.

Anyway, I hope your paper goes well, and I'd be happy to try and help if you have any questions; you could also ask the :)Christian-Fellowship group here in MT, if you get confused or want other opinions. Best of luck!

thx for all the help. Im allmost finished and i just used wikipedia^^. I wont read through books just for religion class. Im glad if i find the most important fact as a short summery on some webpage.
However its still kinda unklear to me whats the difference between ID representatives and the ID-movement.
On the one hand there is the discovery institute where there is all planned and so on, and on the other hand there is some kind of movement. Do the big representatives that lead the discovery institute count as members of the movement? Do those who donate the the ID-whatever count to the movement? Do those who just believe in or sympathize with ID count as members of the movement? Who exactly is the movement and how big is it acctually?

You could always throw His Noodliness into the mix.

hahahaha...
this is so funny and redicolous, yet so true and applying.
it remembers me of someon ewho said: there are only 2 possibilities. 1) God doesnt exist and didnt create the world. 2) god created the world and made it look as though it envolved on its own.
