i wanted to know, is akito part of the zodiac? if so what is he? horse?

He plays the role of god in the zodiac story.

I'm guessing you've only seen the anime then, but that's alright. The horse is a girl, Rin Sohma, and the rooster is a guy, Kureno Sohma. They aren't introduced in the manga until around volume 8, so they didn't make it into the anime. The manga covers a lot more than the anime did, so I reccomend checking it out if you ever get the chance.

Akito Sohma plays the part of the god, as Hana-kun said, but from what I understand, Akito Sohma is actually a girl. I think this is revealed somewhere in volume 15. I read it somewhere.

... akito is only a girl in the manga... and, get this... shigure lives with her in the end of the story... O_o
