Have you ever had someone post in your gallery and say "...this
blows."? Chances are, we all have, and if this is something that you spent
a lot of time on, you will get very emotional and will most likely post a forum
thread about it, or will PM a mod.. or all mods.
The truth in the matter is, there are some things that we might think are rude
and unconstructive, but it's a person's opinion and should be respected. You
might not like or agree with the opinion, but so long as it does not provoke
physical violence it is allowed on MT. I will probably edit it for language but
I will personally not delete any comments made by someone that disagrees unless
it causes a major problem and it needs to be stopped. But then, if it reaches
that point, I'm deleting all posts related to the incident.
From now on, no names will be mentioned in deletion/modification.
I know, it hurts. I've been criticized regularly since I have access to the big
red delete button and I get flaming PM's all the time telling me what a horrible
person I am. BFD. I still have to respect these people and honor their
opinions.
I would love to see more posts in relation to this comment. I don't care if you
disagree with me or my actions or think I'm awesome. Everyone's thoughts are
equal to me. I also think it is healthy to post if you do have a problem with
critical or rude comments.
mm...i got a lot of those "this blows" comments. i just wish that the
person would also leave some constructive comments on why they think it blew,
and how they think it could be fixed
Excellent point, constructive comments are welcome, some just need to learn how
to get there point accross without being so blunt as to offend. MT is a great
place to take advantange of what people think of your work, or to have well
thought out arguments. I myself have been in some very interesting forums and
respect others opinions. I don't shoot people down for their ideas, but I like
to learn the reason behind them. Childish comments show lack of thought and
respect for the forum or anothers Gallery. Thank-you for your time.
Hey.. sure it's not a pleasure to see such comments. Constructive ones are
better and always welcome. People posting sh*tty comments have to be added on a
"Ennemy List" or "Ignore List".. *hint hint*..
On the other side, if I don't like an image, I prefer not to post : I still have
difficulties to explain myself.. and I think I'm not alone.. If I can explain
what's wrong _for me_ with the picture, then I try to ( I _will_ always ) find a
good point, something I like to.. compensate..
well.. i don't know if all this comment is clear enough..
Anyhow, good work, Nuriko.. people here are all doing a nice job, doing their
best..
I do like the site(s), people and.. errr.. moderators too.. lol..
I am happy that you explained what this expression means, I wouldn't have know
it otherwise (we don't learn that kind of stuff during English class).
Besides of this, I agree with you (as everybody does).
I try to comment as objective as possible on other peoples work (except rips ...
).
Since I tend to be quite critically, though, I don't comment at all, if there
are too many negative things, which I would write, if I commented.
Anyway... I agree fully. It's their opinion, and if you really can't handle the
stupid comments that come along with this community, then you really shouldn't
be posting your work in the first place. People's taste in art are very
different, so you'll never get everyone liking one thing. So yeah as the old
adage says , if you can't stand the heat, get
out of the kitchen.
i agree with noctume besides that i always thought that
"this blows" was a positive thing...XD
if i have nothing good to say i just dont say it.. i dont want to hurt ppl but
on the other hand my english is not good to point the faults out verry well ...
so i just respect everybody but the only thing that i wish is more constructive
critic then just a word like "kawaii" , but thats just my opinion in
this case
I think this is a thread that everyone who posts something here should read. I
give a lot of negative feedback and sometimes people respond telling me I'm to
harsh. Of course I don't give a crap about 'em but it gets kind of
annoying.
If you post something you must be ready to face both positive and negative
feedback. Unfortunately many people don't understand this and instead of trying
to improve what they're lacking they get mad and yells at you.
Would it really be better if you got 100 comments all saying the same thing like
"Awesome!"? Personally I would rather get a negative feedback telling
me what to improve than a comment like the one above.
hehe, you have a good point. I agree with you, too many people get upset about
getting negative comments and suggestions. I get them because my wallpapers are
made with paint (miss bunny doesnt have any money to get a good photoshop t_t).
But when I comment I try to be nice, tell the people whats nice and whats not,
but both on equal terms.
I don't like running into threads where people are complaining about a certain
member because of what they said about their wallpaper. Sometimes that apporach
seems childish, going to other people for their pity. -sigh- well, sorry if
anyone doesnt like what I said...
There are folks from all age groups and experience levels here. It's hardly
fair for an art major or art professional to unleash "what a load of
crap!" comments on someone's first effort. It's also not nice to be an
artwork bully, jumping up and down with spiked boots on someone's hard work,
merely because you don't like it but can't articulate why.
We're all here to share our love for anime and manga, and to learn from each
other. As I said on another thread somewhere, please try to offer positive
critique, rather than criticism. The difference is that positive critique
suggests ways to make what the artwork is, better; criticism faults the artwork
for what it isn't. I'd rather hear comments suggesting better figure placement
or color selection than "You got Tifa all wrong! You suck!"
Of course, that doesn't mean we should all walk on eggshells for fear of setting
someone off. Part of being an artist is getting used to hearing comments that
are less than flattering about your work. The trick is to learn to distinguish
between comments that are flat-out wrong, and comments that are true but hurt
like hell to acknowledge. ("You're right; maybe I shouldn't have used
finger paints to sketch out that figure of Tifa after all.")
So in between a little more constructive critique from viewers and a little
thicker skin from artists I think we can all do pretty well here.
Keep your finger on the Big Red Switch, Nuriko. You're doing just fine.

You have a point, but none the less, Minitokyo to me represents a community of
artist. You would think there would be a sertain amount of respect of your
peers. Stating your comments in a mature manner other than "this
blows" would be acceptable no matter how bad the comment.
p.s. This is not a play on intellegents or age, it's all about repect.
anyhow, nice thoughts nuri, ur the girl . I cant
see why people be emotional at texts, lol. If it was someone who bitchslapped
you, thats the time to be angry, lol
well, seeing as i only have one thing submitted (yeah, i suck) i haven't got any
of thows comments. and if i did, i wouldn't care too much. like Nuriko and many
other people said, everyone has different tastes. you don't like it you don't
like. if you like it, cool. only thing I would like to know, like most other
people, is how i can improve it.

*bitchslappes all the pansies who can't take a "this blows" and all
those who say 'this blows" with out an follow up*
sorry, i'm not really wanting to bitchslap anyone...honest...why won't you
believe me? why!!!???
hehehe, =P I posted a message before to a 'certain someone' about comments like
that. To be perfectly honest that person I do not consider an artist.
I personally feel an artist never puts his/her abilities above someone else and
if there is something that he/she thinks can be done differently, to give
positive advice and offer a suggestion.
You know how damaging that can be to someone to hear such harsh words, its
pathetic. I myself remember when I use to be an artist and getting those few
like that, unfortunally my personality made it turn into a HUGE deal, but
otherwise it basically just hruts. Nothing good comes from that, anyone can
insult. Takes a real mature person to tell someone "This is crap that can
be made in five minutes" I don't give a damn if you can make it in five
minutes, your not the artist so shut up. I could continue to rant about it
because thats a huge pet peeve of mine, insulting someone elses work, and I
don't think it should be tolerated here.
I personally don't stand for anyone who does it, and since this is a community
where we can behave ourselves I think MT shouldn't allow it either. Sure it'll
always happen and someone will decided to run his/'her mouth because he/she
thinks "omfg THIS IS THE biggest p.o.s. ever!" You know its simple,
just don't post.
I cannot stress that enough, we are given the chance to chose WHAT TO DO ON THE
NET! At least we have time to think it over before typing and submitting a
response, while in real life depending on if you have common sense or not will
determine if you insult someone or just shut up and move along.
Sorry for my language and if I offended someone I am VERY sorry *bows*.
I'm a lucky one i have non of these comments only some that helps me to get
better i think.
But i think when it is someones opinion what he writes, than he or she can tell
me why.
Then it will be ok.

just joking, Nuriko. I really do like all your submissions. Keep the red button handy!
it's nice to see we have cooler mods than most.
