Well, as the topic says, what are your 2006 favourites so far?

Here's mine:

Asobi Seksu - Citrus
Oh dear, Asobi Seksu is back with a stronger and more coherent 2nd album. Japanese/American shoegaze with a touch of Sonic Youth. Incredible, strong guitars with hazy soundscapes and an incredible singer... this is pretty much just praising without proper arguments, but I'm so in love with this album right now. Real pretty tunes to boot.

Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
I wasn't all that familiar with ex Wu-Tang Ghostface until this album. Veritable in-your-face rapping reinforced with numerous different beats. Ghostface once said in an interview that he'd rap over anything and you can really hear it on this one. Tunes change as often as the songs do. The skits are a little lame, but otherwise a very strong piece.

Why? - Rubber Traits
My favourite artists new EP. The title song is a pretty, melancholic song with an optimistic touch. Why? has developed since his cLOUDDEAD days as a lyricist and Dumb Hummer doesn't leave a doubt of his skills as a musician. The only reason to complain is that it's pretty short with only 4 tracks.

J Dilla - Donuts
The legendary hip hop producer with his last album (R.I.P.), but what a masterpiece it is. There isn't a clear structure since it's mostly beats and shows Jay Dee's skill as a producer. Can't really say much about this one. He will be sorely missed in the hip hop world.

Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped
I'm not much into SY and their last album especially was a massive turnoff, but I really loved this one. Real nice indie tunes, 10+ tracks of impure sounds and lo-fi songs. They still got it.

Calexico - Garden Ruin
Indie pop-folk, real mellow easy-to-get-into tunes. Not all that substancial, so I don't really want to strain my brain trying to think of something boring to say. It's all around nice.

Sufjan Stevens - The Avalanche
Leftouts from 2005 album Illinois. Not as deep, and has 3 versions of the same song, but it's incredible they have a full album of just leftouts. Sufjan is just really productive, I guess. Here's hoping he can finish his plan to make an album of all the states in the US (besides Texas) until he dies. Now there's ambition for you.

EDIT: added some words, was too lazy when I made the thread

Be really careful how you handle this topic. Just going around and listing your favorites will get this thing closed quick. I tend to think that Nana Mizuki's "Hybrid Universe" is the best so far. I really got it simply because it had her fantastic songs from Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha on it, but the rest of the album was pretty solid as well. It was a great album in a so far lackluster release year.

Am I the only one that ever lists J-Pop on these things? I'm such a fanboy.

lol fanboy... I haven't really been impressed with any new album releases since 2005.

The only albums I can think of in 2006 are RHCP's Stadium Arcadium and Tool's 10000 Days. Tool's album was pretty good, but it's a little early to say it's the best... RHCP's new album wasn't bad but it wasn't that great either.

I really liked the UVERworld album "Timeless" but I'm not sure if it was released in 2005 or 2006

I agree with Kidder, Stadium Arcadium by the RHCP was GREAT! quite a surprise to know they came back. Ummmm the one by The Rasmus (Dead Letters i think) was surprising too. When it comes to J-pop, i'm completely lost... i just listen to anime songs, but i dont know about singers or albums or anything...
