....about how big our universe really is? I never actually though how big it was ntil recently I studied about our galaxy.

So, let's say compared to earth, which has a diameter of around 15000km, and an area of approx. 40000km^2, and your average length of a man would be around 170cm. So compared to the Earth, you are in ratio of 1:8823529.41 compared to diameter. Large comparison eh?

Now. Let's look at how long is the earth is compared to our galaxy. The disc of the galaxy is about 100000 light years, which is 100000x9460528404879km.

well, that results to 946052840487900000km approximately, and in ratio of the earth, the earth is 1:63070189365860. Compared that to a human, well, it goes approximately 1:556501670763934959942.6.

Already this number is alot larger than what our minds can comprehend, but right now, the cosmic light horizon, is approxmately 14.1 billion light years away. Put that in numbers, it is in estimate 1410000000000 light years, and in kilometers, 1410000000000x9460528404879km, which equals to 133393450508793900000000000km in distance. Also, if we count the current distance of the universe, it is 78 billion light years, so 78000000000000x9460528404879km which then equals up to 737921215580562000000000000km, and 73792121558056200000000000000m. Well, and if you compared that to a human, it goes 1:421669266046035428571428571.
Well, since it's all in numerical, it doesn't seem that massive, but say if you were to put a metre ruler that long, and if you can just imagine it, it hurts your brain. And if you wanna kill your brain even more, compare that to the smallest atom, no, compare it to an electron, which has a diameter of 0.00000000000000028179m.

Anyways. Let's put that in figure.
2.6186919890008942829766847652507e+44 which is also
1:261860000000000000000000000000000000000000000
with electron:universe.

I'll stop now, and you guys can discuss about it. I need to stop the brain leakage in my ears.

i never really thought about it...the only thing that i think about realated to the universe is the black hole...i sometimes have nightmares of the earth being swallowed up by the black hole and everyone dies...that's kinda lame i know...

Hmmmm.. Brings to mind the quote "a speck in the eye of god". Kinda reinforces the fact that humans aren't all that and we are just too arrogant to accept the fact that we are only a small infinitesimal part of the universe. Humility is a good thing, too bad most people lack it.

lol... there was a school teacher in my high school who was promoting the subject of philosophy. I vaguely remember exactly word for word, what he said, but here goes:

"look at your finger, you have a fingernail.. now look at the finger nail.. within the finger nail lies millions of atoms. in one of those atoms, there exists a multitude of galaxies... and of all those galaxies, one of them is ours, the milky way. the milky way is made of billions of stars which make up even more planets. one of those stars is the solar system. and the third planet from the sun in the solar system, lies planet Earth. And on Earth, it is populated by billions of people. And of those billions, one of them is staring at their fingernail.. and it goes on.."

Yeah, it doesn't exactly make sense, but I guess it kinda opens an idea to the possibility that we live in a world that is simply much more vast than we think it to be. I'd like to find out exactly what is out there... Bar the absurd thoughts of course. But it is much larger, and there are so many mysteries we can only solve.. And the thought of how big the galaxy is... well.. *faints*

Haha.. well, I don't know. I think its a really huge place and that we're still covered up and there is an end to the universe, just that we can't see it due to time dilation, bla bla bla.. Haha... perhaps it is simply a gigantic bubble that someone watches from the outside of this bubble.. we could merely be ants for all we know. Hehe... I think weird too sometimes.. :P

I have thought about it once or twice, yes. In read some books that were easy to understand (I nearly failed phyisics in high school - had no idea what they were talking about) and which had nice comparrisons. For example, you have a feeling for the size of planet earth, stack that against the size of the sun and our solar system, then stack that against the milky way, etc., and then you end up with fractions so small that you run out of numbers for the denominators.

Its simply too big to comprehend without an (several) extra brain and several doctorate degrees. Thats why I stay firmly rooted on Earth, this little bit which I can see and understand.

No if only I could say the same about its inhabitants.... ^_^'

Every day, to the point I started thinking about the Multiverse.
