Ok graffiti, i work at a store and i always see graffiti written on my store. Not only on the store but on other buildings and stuff like a dumpster. The owner always have to paint over it so the store would look nice, either that, the taxes take care of it which we all pay. Why go off and draw stuff on our walls? What is the meaning of this? Have nothing to do or something? Is there a purpose to this? And what does the words mean because i cant read it.

Graffiti depending on who did it, had different motives behind it.

Some people consider graffiti as an art.
There are some wonderful examples of graffiti art that cover the whole wall, giving the wall a whole new character, and it shapes the character of the area in doing so.

Some people consider graffiti as a mark.
By doing graffiti, what you write on becomes "yours" in a sense, and you have left your mark behind on this particular wall.

Some people consider graffiti to be cool.
The whole graffiti type of font slowly developed into something we associate with homies and cool people.

Some people consider drawing graffiti as something brave.
To write stuff on property's that's not yours- to write stuff on places where you are trespassing or ridiculous places like walls and tunnels next to train tracks is something people think is brave, thrilling and heroic. And they get a kick out of imagining the dismay when someone walks in the next day and sees it.

Yeah.

people dont write grafiti for any particular reason thus usually it just dont mean anything or it is just a word they just pick up while drawing it...

Graffiti is something people do as an hobbie to while away their so called long people do.. it is actually an impromptu art but people usually misconcept it as something bad as it is termed that when someone do a graffiti it is a bad thing or that someone is defacing someone's property..

Alot of ppl claim that the artistic value outways the general de-facing of public property. Personally i think it takes some serious talent to do some grafitti, but thats just my personal opinion. Plus take into account that its just apart of the general gang culture, though I could be way off....

I take the mark view, myself. It's just a way for someone (or a group of someones) who won't amount to much else attempt some form of recognition.

It's a starting artform that friends usually compile over time and show prospective creative employers... ^__^

*here's my portfolio sir* As you can see, I tagged up this place and this place.. etc...

I think graffitti could be a useful tool of self expression...if applied properly. It can be beautiful, and inspirational, if the message is there..

Most graffitti is of the name of some malcontent, unsatisfied with his life...It's depressing, because he thinks that makes him somebody.

I want to see inspirational graffitti, with messages.. anti-racism or peace? Something that the hood really needs.. not more aggressive territorial disputes..or meaningless violence.

It can have its uses.. For a time, I wanted to go about on weekends and do the same (living in slums of course..) but instead of just marking someones property with something meaningless, like random words.. and put something coherent. Something to inspire my brothers and sisters living in this slum, this hell with me. To make them shoot for higher, to make them want more. To encourage them to live better.

Thats what graffitti means to me.

i think graffitti is cool...although itis destroying the propertery(or however u spell it,my spellin aint good...) but in order to do graffitti,u can see the words, the colour...quite an art....
but, graffitti is the same as vandazlin rite?

It's a form of expression, plain & simple.

It is difficult to determine the difference between art and vandalism in this case. It is a little bit of both, I guess.

well, no matter what its vandalism. It's certainly illegal. But yeah.. sometimes you gotta break laws to express yourself. Fighting the power, so to speak or whatever.

Where could you live that graffiti is THAT popular and THAT redundant?

Even the big cities I've been in don't have that much, and it's usually on trains and such when it is.

Though, I bet if you get some artists or something to do a mural on the building, graffitists probably won't barg onto other art.

bad neighborhoods.

Cities arent too bad though, because the city actually likes to keep its property in proper shape (to some extent), but the residential zones with a lot of private businesses and low property value usually have alot of graffitti.

graffiti on propperty? I say its discusting! people who do it are idiots!

hmm... graffiti..... two types.... one where supposedly its cool and you mark that its your territory which is stupid.... blah blah... -_-.... then the other half of the people say its art... well in a way it is.. BUT....... the people that do it.. do they do it intentionally cause its art?.. cause i would get so pissed off if they didn't ask for permission.... its only art when they ask for it... .. cause some people... do that stuff as an art..... BUT those are the people that don't randomly go to peoples stores and crap and spray paint crap like " BLOODS " or something..... -_-

People who do graffiti are half artists, half (insert negative adjective).

If we're talking about tagging, which is most common, then most probably some bored guy with a spray is marking everything that can't move with a signature.

I don't have anything against art-type-graffiti. But only a drunk monkey would call tagging art. In New York this was once a major problem. It was solved by painting the whole city every morning. It was expensive, but it worked.

If you're not going to use such amounts of money, you can always hire some guy and make him wait for taggers to appear and beat them up. And then drag to the police station, in plastic bags.

You can also hire a graffiti artist and make your store more kewl by decorating it with a professional graffiti.

usually its just a group of friends that are being stupid and they want to leave their mark

it might stink for u but these ppl get a thrill out of it so itll probably keep happenin........sorry

I don't like graffiti when people do it to things that don't belong to them.

However... I like graffiti as an art form.
My math homework is covered in graffiti.
I decorate my notebooks with graffiti.
I'm covering my house in graffiti when I'm older. lol. (well, maybe not this one)
