Hi guys, I wish to ask something regarding my Anime avatar. I know that I must
edit pictures to become smaller in order to fit as an avatar, but sometimes when
I shrink them the quality becomes lousy. Can anyone recommend me how to make any
picture into a good quality avatar? I wish to change my avatar.
i guess it depends on what program yer using..someone made mine fer me ^^;;
so..i cant hlep much..demo when i did use to make avatar icons i used corel pshp
I know. All programs including Photoshop don't bother using any advanced
resampling algorithm like Lanczos, so here is how you can improvise: Always
shrink your image to half - not less in one step! If some size was an odd
number, round it up, so that you won't get below 50%: 455 becomes 228. You
continue to half it (always with Bicubic, of course, cause any other algorithm
doesn't fall into our pro discussion, unless you have some Lanczos or #-Spline
). Continue until the next step to your desired resolution is more than 50% and
then you can finally set the right final resolution.
i don't want to explain what are the pitfalls of shrinking images, good
reference is a help file of VirtualDub's resize plugin.

Use the GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/) It's free, and it has hi-quality resizing, as well is now accepted as a profesional image editor.
