I am a rather young member of Minitokyo compared to some of you here, but I am happy to say that I am a content and active member.

One trend I have been noticing is the decreasing number of favourites on new submissions. I have reached the conclusion that no matter how spectacular a new submission is, it will NEVER reach the same number of favourite votes as the oldest wallpapers on this site. When's the last wallpaper that got over 100 fav votes? Pretty old I bet.

Reason: people's taste and expectations goes up over time.

I remember when I first joined, every other wallpaper was amazing. And I love everyone's work here. The longer I stayed, the pickier I got about the submissions since everything started to look the same and nothing really gives me the "wow" effect anymore. Does anyone else feel the same?

And what is more "frustrating" is the people who actually remove favourites from their folder. It hasn't happened to me yet, but I personally find that unfair. What good can come out of such a deed? It's not as if there is a quota on how many favourites a member can have, and meanwhile, the creator would feel devastated that their work is no longer favoured.

Heh, actually the over 100 favs is still around, check out semanga's 168 and going up. Sun and Moon (Day and Night).

Okay, well to me, favourites don't mean as much value to me as comments. Because simply just faving is nice, but I also would like to hear if people have something to say about it.

I agree that people's expections are higher. Let's face it, if you've been here for a year, you've seen EVERYTHING. So there isn't much originality you can get from all these members put together. About the removal of favourites, I don't have a problem with this, if one does it to me, big deal. I'm not up for the stats, you should understand people's tastes have changed and standards. Why not update your favourite list? Sometimes I faved merely to show support in the past ... not because I REALLY liked it, which now I realised is completely wrong, that's why I went through my favourites.

If you really want to get into the popular items, it's a matter of being a crowd pleaser, I didn't like my last wallpaper too much, and my next one will not be a scenic, haha. But generally, scenics are popular.

I know some people say MT galleries lack originality. But instead of complaining, how about you bring whatever originality you are wishing for? It can't be helped if most people like a certain style.

The concept of "favorite" is that it is a favorite item. You cannot blame someone for updating their taste based on what they have seen until now. Moreover, favored items should be much less common than they are right now. Quotas have already been implemented on MT, and devastation or not, an artist must accept the ctitics.

Chinger-chan, compare to me you are very talented. There are a lot of talented ppl here in MT. The first time I've been here, I was so amaze of how many ppl are good with their artistic skills. I had favoring wallie because I like it. But as time passed by, I started to learn what 'beyond' the wallie. I don't know if you can understand it, but I enjoyed looking at wallie and 'read' through it.

From the start, I rarely give favourites. I give them to the wallpapers I really want to download again if I lose my home data.
Unfortunately, I have also given one just trying to make one member feel better and that's so wrong, I think I will remove it when I will be decided to check my favourites.

I am not really sure that "people's taste and expectations goes up over time."
Sure I am usually attracted by complex wallpapers but at the same time I can be touched by simpler wallpapers. I tend too to download more the wallpapers of the series I like. Even if I don't think they are wonderful wallpapers, just having put in a nice way a character I really like is ok for me. Especially it it is a character that's not really popular.

Taste and expectation do go up after a while in my opinion. I seen it with myself.
For example, I tend to stay away from ecchi walls but in the past... bam bam! It shot out like a machine gun.

Now I tend to give favorites to people that got great concepts, moods and techniques. It could be really refined or not that refined.
Rarely I also fav stuff that people put a lot of effort in and I see that they try to experiment with stuff.

i gotta agree. when i first joined here, everything was nice. many new ideas. and i am always looking forward to submissions from people like semanga, zaira and etc. although i myself too stop going to mt when it first became vers 3. see now i am back here again. maybe coz many ppl did come as often as last time when it became the new mt so there isn't much going on.

i dun favourite as much as last time now. once in awhile i will fav walls that catch my eyes.

as for my own submission.... sure sometimes i am frustrated that not many ppl comment and fav like wat i should have expected. well, bad luck for me, i do not meet their liking. i am not a pro waller so yea, like that.

i myself like simple wallpapers and not really that good doing scenery wallpapers. maybe is just me but nowaday, you do a scenery wallpaper, it gets more attention compared to simpler walls.

like they say, people's expectations grows and rise together with time.
