Hi there, i open this thread because since 2
days in MT there are 2 bad banners, one about porn site and another one asking
for installing a software called Drive Cleaning...i hope that will be fixed soon
Ah, there is a topic on this already. I'd like to second this one, and I'm
adding a screenshot of the ad in question. Oh, and I can't get the link to this
ad, simply because the banner was made so that I can't copy said links. I bet it
leads mostly to the official page of this particular.... product,
though.
Since the ad itself is apparently able to localize the country of the PC it's
trying to spam, I'd like to apologize for the Norwegian text. What it basically
does is say that the security of your "personal" files are compromized
and none of your programs are able to handle it. (Which is a blatant lie in most
cases.) It's showing machine IP and ISP location to "prove" that
you're under threat from these supposedly... erm, threats. It's also listing a
few viruses and worms that pretty much any virus program should be able to
handle at this point.
Now, if it had been just the banner, I probably wouldn't have cared. Problem is,
this particular banner sees fit not only to partially cover up the MT pages, but
also prompt Windows Message boxes to appear, asking you to install whatever
malware product they're offering. (And yes, WinAntiVirus PRO IS malware if the
googling of the product I performed is any indication. Maybe not as heinous as
SpySheriff, but somewhat in the same vein as far as annoyances go.)
I'm getting fairly annoyed at lying banners (you have won our hourly prize, you
have X messages waiting, your files are broken.... that kind of thing) but this
one just takes the cake.
Since we do not know exactly all the ads people get (from experience, they are
more localised), we have had some very inappropriate ads.
If you notice any bad ads, please either give the link and address (accessed via
viewing the properties of the ad) to a mod or post them here. Sheqel will be
able to block them that way.
Again, DO NOT CLICK, even if just to see what it is. Malware companies like this
that has the audacity to try to install something on your computer even if you
indicate negative interest has no right existing.

Since they seem to be gone now, I'd like to direct my gratitude to the staff for
removing the Errorsafe/Drivecleaner banners and their obnoxious automatic
message boxes and install prompts. Good riddance to those.

Augh! Drivecleaner is still here. Kill it!
Also, I don't think that links to 'intimate dating' websites should show in the
adds, especially with explicit banners... This may be just my being paranoid,
but a lot of members are under 18, and... well... this is just wrong
(example: here).
Its more a joke because the "google policy" have create many problems
here....its sad to see that after weeks the situation is not solved...but the
mass "so many times unfair" censorship on users stuff still continue

I've never gotten any of THOSE before (not that I'd want to, but I guess it
supports the "depends on where you are" theory.
I'm still getting the occational DriveCleaner/ErrorSafe banner, though not as
often as before. Still, I'd like to see them all abolished and also seeing the
creators of this crap having their own machines raped by their own products.
(Theoretically impossible, I know, but.... it's a pleasant thought.)
Well all I can really say is if you find an inappropriate ad then grab it's url
and post it or PM it to sheq directly so he can take care of it. If you do don't
forget to take a screenshot of what the ad looks like. Seeing as we have members
from all over it's hard to get every single one but as much as you don't want
them we don't want these ads here either.
ppl that use this way of doing certain things should get banned ...and there
should be an option on minitokyo to report this kind of crap ...but
unfortunately minitokyo's options/interface lacks A LOT

Thank you.
Here's the banner URL to that annoying Spyguard/Errorsafe ad:
http://no.errorsafe.com/download/2006/index.php?aid=ablelove_rdt_no_no_lng_ed1&lid=intl&ex=1&ax=1
Ban it off the banners, and everyone else.... DO NOT CLICK IT! Instead, read this Wiki article on the program and any of its sister programs.

Incidentally, here's another little banner prog that tries to install itself regardless of the users wishes. The URL is:
http://no.drivecleaner.com/.freeware/index.php?ad=allvoice_no_no_ed1&link=intl&ex=1&p=14&a=1
Again, DO NOT CLICK, even if just to see what it is. Malware companies like this that has the audacity to try to install something on your computer even if you indicate negative interest has no right existing.
