What is your view on censorship on books? If you are in a position to influence
on what can be read or not, would you impose your standard on others just
because you feel it is the "right" thing to do? Recent good example is
probably Harry Potter book. It is sad that there are people who really believe
the book is bad influence against children. Here is a link to one such

Let's see here.. "Atlanta mother of four" and "'Evil' attempt at
indoctrinating children into the wicca religion" distinguishes this person
as three things to me: An uneducated moron, a fascist, and a zionist.
It's always advocated for the same reasons it seems, pushing their own values
and opinions onto others like the selfish and self-absorbed people that they
are, or furtheing their own agendas. Of course, in this case it happens to be to
push a bronze-age holdover (namely preservation of religion) as moral basis
instead of recognizing it's figurehead status and openness to be either adhered
to, or dropped in the modern era. Another primitive it seems, one more person
for me to lambast into submission and forever obscurity.
It will be a great day when the last of these people die out, although until
then, I have no respect, nor remorse for their so-called "moral
plight", or fight against the heathenous horde of the written arts or
exercise of free thought that their want of theocracy or a return to 'normalcy'
cannot stifle.

Why would they censor a book that is clearly fiction and meant for everyone's
fun and entertainment?
Well the "Da Vinci Code" was almost banned from the bookshelves in the
Philippines, and the movie based on the show too. However, everyone was taken
for a fool because everything turned upside down and people actually bought the
book and watched the movie en masse'.
This is what I call Reverse Psychology marketing! So censorship on books can be
profit for the author on my opinion, should it be harnessed the correct
way.

distress among the christians in my country, they tried to have it banned, but
they failed, and they went on "campaign", giving out flyers telling
things like "Da Vinci Code" is totally false, its evil, in their
flyers they compared the "Da Vinci Code" book and the bible, one
comparison i can remember is "the Da Vinci Code is a fictional book by Dan
Brown, the bible is the words of God, its true." basically the flyer used
supportive evidence cited from the bible.. i see if i can find the flyer the
christians gave me and scan it..

communist handbook, its basically a small handbook containing communist ideas...
another book that would be banned would be the Anarchist cookbook which i don't
even know whether if it actually existed.. it basically is a book which teaches
you to go against the government and make things like bombs to damage government

Knowledge can be dangerous in the wrong hands. Some people are easily influenced
by fancy words. I agree that some censorship should be used depending on what
type of people and what age will be receiving the books.

Oh the Anarchist Cookbook does exsist, or at least it did at one time. But it
doesn't tell you anything that you can't find through other sources, it more or
less compiles it all into 1 book. You can find direction on how to make weapons

moderate people are involved. Too bad there aren't that many out there. Most
book "bannings" and protests are the result of massively uneducated
people or over zealous moral/immoral groups taking things to the absolute
extreme.
As for the Anarchist's Cookbook, yes it does exist but good luck getting your
hands on an original printed copy today. It is a rather neat little compilation
though I highly recommend you not undertake any of the ahem "recipes"
without proper education or training as they are dangerous and in several cases
could kill or severely maim you.
Some other books include Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, because
of their honest portrayal of southern U.S.A. culture in the 1800's. What better
way to understand the plight of African American people in the U.S.A. than to
read honest, free of political correctness, accounts of how they were treated
during this time period.
I think it is ridiculous to ban books especially something as harmless as

that it will somehow influence children to seek out the world of
"witchcraft" as a religion. However J.K. Rowling's books never mention
any sort of religion. The books are about magic for magic's sake, there is no

attempt to protect their children, yet the most important part of a child's
growth is their imagination. Reading those books can definitely foster that.

If the parents of the child reading Harry Potter doesn't like their child

characters/story is.
I feel it's the government's job (especially a department that specialises in
'censorship') is to make the guidelines of what's good for what age, and the
publisher's/writer'sjobs to obey those guidelines.
Now, unless you're a back-water group, and you don't have many
morals/responsibilities, then you could give kids what we know is 18+ only in
reality/civil society. That's obviously crazy.
Now, that is for the basics of censorship. When it comes to what is acceptable
in terms of topics, it's iffy about what is acceptable.
For example: Governments and public don't really want to publish "Terrorist
Training Manuals" as it's a criminal/ill-moral extremism.
Witchcraft is mythical. That's why we have science, mathematics and other
logistic subjects. To make a love potion; To have wind come out your sleeves;
Spell chantings; They are all unproven methods of wizardry and witchcraft.
Therefore I don't see fictional things like this is bad for people of any
age.
