i just read this today: http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/military_law/3319656.html
what should/could be done about this? if china does try to re-integrate or
destory Tiawan, we will have to step in. and while war may be the wrong word to
use, there will still be conflict.
The leak of US technology is a big problem. But i doubt this will escalate into
a war with China. The US should try to do a better job in classifying the
technology.
I think that society has gotten to the point where there will no longer be any
"real" wars (like WWII) due to the threat of nuclear escalation.
Instead, clandestine operations will be launched against each country using
special forces and spies. I doubt that there will be war with China because they
are a top supplier of many of our commercial goods. I do feel however, that we
will and are keeping a close eye on their movements both economically and
politically.
China is at a crossroads right now in terms of where we stand with them. China
has implemented a strict education system to include the addition of a PhD
degree which did not exist years ago. They are becoming far more technologically
advanced and are slowly giving up the ways of communism. They do still have many
things within that country that contradict our belief system, but it's getting
better. It's a critical point as to whether or not we are able to ally ourselves
with a soon to be world power, or decide to butt heads with them. Only time will
tell.
Let's not forget how "Slick Willy" Bill Clinton sold Missile
Technology to China.
Then he used his Lawyer Speak to Cover up any investigation. We should NEVER
forget "FileGate" and the Death of Vince Foster!?!
Bill Clinton has been the most dangerous person to ever happen to the United
States of America! We will NEVER know the Damage Done!
and hilary shouldn't be the next president. i have never wished death upon
anyone before, but i hiope she is taken out by a high caliber rifle. I'll vote
for Nader. Dont be a Nader hater!
Lets be serious. Nader has no chance. Don't even talk about it. My guess is that
It'll be either Clinton, Giuliani, or Obama. Provided that none of them commits
political suicide lke Dean.
The United States has just as many spies in China as they do here. Espionage
isn't news...
Besides, even if China steals half of America's arsenal, they're still years
behind in logistical support for troops. Which is why it was more troubling that
China gained the ability to shoot down satellites rather than that they stole
some blueprint.
War won't happen. Neither side is foolish enough to wish for mutual destruction,
since both are nuclear powers.
War with China. Not very likely.
China acquiring tech from us illegally is no different than out intelligence
gathering operations elsewhere in the world. H#$% we even spy on our allies as
they do on us.
As far as the Communism issue, well as has been demonstrated Communism is
fundamentally unable to deal with new concepts/ideas that will always crop up
when you get better educated people involved so i expect Communism to continue
on its slow decline in China and eventually be replaced by another form of
government.
As too our two countries bumping heads, well we do that all the time. We just do
it over the negotiations table and through posturing with no shots fired except
in cases of extreme screw ups where both sides tend to be somewhat at fault.
I highly doubt the U.S. will go into a war with China. It does not really seem
to be in the best interest of either country.
They depend on each other economically. A large amount of U.S. goods are made in
China. Plus the amount of various goods needed in the U.S give China a large
amount of jobs for China's exceptionally large amount of people.
Besides spying and the like have been going on for years. If there would be a
war, it would more closely resemble the Cold War than say either of the World
Wars.

What the hell kind of comment is that? "Soldiers sign up to die for their
country, and they don' matter to me"? Seriously do you think that's why
people sign up for the military? I'll tell you this right here and right now, I
didn't sign up to DIE for my country, I signed up with the intention of
protecting the nation and heeding the call when I'm needed. Do I risk death in
the process, sure, but did I sign up to die. Heeeellll no. Not only that but
they don't matter to you? Sorry to say but the way the world is, who has what
land and who has the power has been gained through conflict. Yea its a sad truth
but truth nonetheless. I just don't see how you can value one life over another
because of their occupation. Besides, no one wants innocents to die, you try
your best to prevent that but war isn't cut and dry like it used to be.
Conventional warfare on a battlefield was left in history. Due to the way we
conduct warfare now civilians do get tangled up in the mess sometime and that is
regretable... but it is war.
When it comes to the China issue, there is a high degree of polarization between
the Red Team and the Blue Team. Both have good points; the Red Team, a.k.a. the
panda-huggers, point out the huge volume of trade between the United States and
the PRC while the Blue Team, a.k.a. the dragon-slayers, point out the
skyrocketing increase in the PRC defense budget by approximately 10% each year
and their active movement away from brown and green-water capabilities to a
blue-water navy capable of engaging elements of the US Pacific Fleet far from
Chinese shores.
If the US and the PRC were to go to war, it would likely be over the Taiwan
issue, but it is important to note that (1) Hu Jintao and the rest of the
current Chinese government no longer sees reunification as a policy priority and
are content as long as Taiwan does not make moves towards formal independence,
and (2) the United States is not required to come to Taiwan's aid if Taiwan is
attacked; the 1979 TRA only requires that the United States makes available
weapons and equipment to allow Taiwan to provide for its defense.
That said, the Chinese government is not a single unified entity. The PLA, for
example, exercises a good deal of autonomy in the governing structure and can
have significant influence over policy. For example, it was largely responsible
for pushing through the Anti-Succession Law, and PLA officers have been known to
take very hard-line and belligerent stances and be vocal about them even when
those positions are in conflict with the official party line. In fact, it is
possible that the recent destruction of the satellite was something done
independently by the PLA and not a decision of the government as a whole. In
retrospect, most instances of saber rattling by Beijing were largely the result
of the PLA pushing its weight, and therefore its organizational goals cannot be
discounted.
On the flip side, war with China is exactly the kind of war the the United
States military wants to fight. The military as a whole as it exists today is
not geared towards special operations and low-intensity conflict; conventional
wars are what they were designed for, what commanders were trained for, and what
units still use as a benchmark for readiness. As much as the military says that
it is moving away from a Cold War mentality and transforming into a more
flexible and force capable of handling multiple simultaneous low-intensity and
asymmetric conflicts (including at least one long-term one involving regime
change), there is an obvious organizational reluctance to move away from the
types of warfare it is most familiar with.

Speak of mutually assured destruction...
Nice story... tell it to Readers Digest!
The only safe vote is Newt!
And yes Nader is a 1,000,000% better choice than Hillary. Didn't we learn our
lesson the last time we elected a lawyer as president.
I agree with many here that a war will not happen. It would be too risky for the
United States to get involved in a major war, especially with the war in Iraq
still a big problem. China depends on the United States for business and would
not likely attack their business partner. Even if China attacks Taiwan, I bet
there would be a large out cry because it would look like China was being
imperialistic. There is also the threat of nuclear war which both sides want to
avoid.
if there is a war china will win becuse ther will is far superier to ours we can
win every bettle and yet lose the war we lost vitnam that way and we are losing
irag but i do not belive it will come to nuclear war than it will be a stalmate
*Sigh* If it could, the US would go to war with Heaven. At least the current
jackasses in office would. I'm so excited that Hilary Clinton is running, she's
an amazingly strong, and intelligent woman. She's what the country needs now.
I'm not from the US, so i think i can give a more neutral opinion.
I just think that the US didn't need to act as the Justice League. They don't
have to interfere in conflicts between countrys, let them solve it by
themselves. Or USA, lead by Mr. Bush, is meddling in war after war just to
increase the income of the Weapons Industry, the main supporters of the Bush
government?
About Mrs. Clinton: Bill did a marvelous job for the USA economy. If Hilary does
half of it, it'll be better than another Bush in the presidency.
If China wants to re-integrate or destroy Taiwan (bullshit in my opinion), the
USA would face a big problem in a direct war, and the same thing goes to China.
They would probably find a diplomatic solution for the problem.
"with great power comes great responsibility" if we dont help out
those who have no way to defend themselves then we are no better than the ones
who are causing trouble. if we had not been invloved with both world wars all of
europe would probably be speaking german and all of asia would be japanese
speaking people (i'm omitting the pearl harbor incident because if we had not
been blocking japanese supply ships, they probably wouldnt have attacked us) the
fact of the matter is that if we were to resume our old position of
isolationism, the world would become hell. we are Team America: World Police.
